Airplanes were invented in 1904.
1910 to 1930 was the birth of the Air Mail industry (no passengers)
1930 to 1950 was the birth of the Regional Airlines (twin-engine, passengers over flatlands)
1950 to 1960 was the birth of the National Airlines (four-engines, passengers over mountains)
1960 to Present was the birth of International Airlines (using four jet engines, passengers over oceans)
The most profitable decade for the airlines was 2010-2020.
Current AI is like in year 1908.
New levels of power, reliability, and safety define each era.
Current AI has limited power, no reliability, and no safety.
I think AI will follow a similar adoption path to that of flight. It will slowly expand everywhere. I expect AI to grow for the next 100 years.
Some key points in air travel were that once they had two engines, they could safely fly passengers over flatlands. They could also fly cargo over mountains. That was a game-changer. Once they had four engines, they could fly passengers over mountains. Once jet engines became reliable in the 60s, they took over international travel.
AI might use different discerning traits for each era than "power, reliability, and safety". That will be something to look for.
