I put "failed" in quotations because I lost interest/motivation after 1-2 months in and not because the ideas themselves were not viable or workable.
Anyway, long story short, I, like many of you, need a "side hustle" to fund the primary business of our choice.
Some previous ideas that I never pursued diligently, but merely dabbled in:
1) Wall Art/Canvas Art
2) Catering (here, some kind of ethnic cuisine that isn't seen very often like Eastern European, African, Middle Eastern, etc. should provide enough differentiation and work out - assuming either you or the head chef is somewhat competent)
3) Tutoring for skills in non-academic subjects; e.g. housework, carwork, video games (yes people will pay money for this), sports/hunting, etc.
With minimal effort, I believe you should be able to make to pay for all cost of living expenses incl. taxes + use the remainder for bootstrapping purposes. Even if it's only ~$10K it's much better than nothing.
Now here's the thing - my younger self said, "Oh yea none of these are CENTS businesses so they're worthless." That turned out to be a costly mistake.
I will go ahead and revisit these - I'm curious what "side hustles" you have come up with? You can even think of a "side hustle" as a non-CENTS business.
One last thing - TBH I'm not a big fan of web design just because every "web design agency" slaps on some theme and makes customizations and charges you $500-$10K while hiring some guy on Fiverr to make changes to Wix/Shopify/WP/whatever they're using. Obviously you CAN succeed but it seems a bit too overcrowded...
