This sounds strange to me, like there's a "force of fairness" working in your favor. Rather than that, I think there are so many opportunities passing us by at any given moment, that if you miss one, you just need to catch the next one. Or take the bit that you got from the "missed" opportunity and work it into the next thing.
If I didn't think that way, I would tend to panic over every supposed opportunity, as if it's the last rare chance to make it big. It never is, and believing it is makes people anxious and easy to scam. At the same time, thinking something "better" is coming to balance a previous shortfall does seem like a bit too much of a Pollyanna point of view. It would tend to suppress purposeful effort and adaptation to adversity I think.
So... no, I don't believe that "if I didn't get what I wanted (assuming I put in the work), something better is coming my way," exactly. Instead I think that (a) not getting what I want after putting in work, and (b) things coming my way (good or bad or better or worse), are not dependent on each other. And that the main determinant of whether something turns out well, is ultimately my ability to first recognize the opportunity and then apply skills and experience to make it work for me.
