Time to post some nominations for next month's book discussion.

I nominate the runner ups to last months contests.

The Chimp Paradox, by Dr. Steve Peters

and

Never Split the Difference, by Chris Voss

I just started reading this month's book selection so I'm running a bit behind.

I will select the most liked selections for vote, plus anything that might be interesting and not necessarily mainstream.

Funny. Today I thought...where the heck is his “Review” on this, then I thought I missed it.

Being a non-business book, just interested on your take.

Thanks @MJ DeMarco !

I got to read the first few pages of Never Split the Difference before college studies and gigs overran my schedule.

Pretty awestruck at the work that goes behind actual negotiations. Couldn't believe such dangerously effective tricks were being published for the general audience.

Will be nominating Chris Voss's work!

P.S We can't put surveys on the forum? Thought it would be a lot more handy to leave a survey up there to vote for the book pick.

Haven't read it yet (it was released a month ago), but it might be interesting and relevant to a lot of people here.

Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein

25316

What's the most effective path to success in any domain? It's not what you think.

Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. If you dabble or delay, you'll never catch up to the people who got a head start. But if you take a closer look at the world's top performers, from professional athletes to Nobel laureates, you'll find that early specialization is the exception, not the rule.

David Epstein, author of the New York Times bestseller The Sports Gene, studied the world's most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields--especially those that are complex and unpredictable--generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel. Generalists often find their path late, and they juggle many interests rather than focusing on one. They're also more creative, more agile, and able to make connections their more specialized peers can't spy from deep in their hyperfocused trenches. As experts silo themselves further while computers master more of the skills once reserved for highly focused humans, people who think broadly and embrace diverse experiences and perspectives will increasingly thrive.

Our obsession with getting a head start is understandable; early specialization feels efficient. But Epstein marshals an enormous body of scientific research to argue that we should all actively cultivate inefficiency. Failing a test is the best way to learn. Frequent quitters end up with the most fulfilling careers. The most impactful inventors cross domains rather than deepening their knowledge in a single area. Provocative, rigorous, and engrossing, Range explains how to maintain the benefits of breadth, diverse experience, interdisciplinary thinking, and delayed concentration in a world that increasingly incentivizes, even demands, hyperspecialization.

I am voting for Never Split the Difference, by Chris Voss. I feel like this book could affect a lot of people here, judging simply by the cover. Added to my "gotta read this before 2020" list.

Never Split the Difference. Read it a few weeks ago, implemented and changed my interactions with key persons in my life , so I am looking forward to discuss it in depth and share some of the gold in that book with forum members here.

I read Never Split The Difference last month and can't recommended it enough. Amazing book with real actionable tools from a completely different perspective to most negotiaton books I've read.

He starts nearly all the chapters with a real life story from his FBI hostage negotiaton days, each one as gripping as the last.

Looking forward to hopefully discussing this book.

The "Chimp" is that voice in your head and the "Paradox" is that it wants the best and worst for you. I highly recommend you read it.

This book and Mindset by Carol Dweck changed how I think and it changed my life.

The Human Swarm, by Mark Moffett.
This book will change business philosophy and percolate new ideas and products.
But it isn't a business book.

As long as the forum shows interest it will continue. If it doesn't, I'll stop. Pretty simple!

That's cool that there are only three options to choose from this month. It's better than too many choices. I voted for my own suggestion, Range. I haven't read it yet but if it wins, I hope it's good.

I read The Chimp Paradox a few years ago and it was pretty good. Don't care much for negotiation skills so Never Split the Difference is the least interesting book for me (but looks like it's going to win).
