Ditch Facebook. Ditch the mainstream news media.

Be very careful about what and who you listen to and watch every day. It messes you up or improves your life.

You've got posts saying avocados have gender and where to check because one of them is sweeter and nobody even bothers checking that nonsense they just share it to the death...

WAIT,
You're telling me that I've been misgendering my fruit and veg all this time.
If you'll excuse me I've got a self perpetrated hate crime to report.

When people on my Facebook newsfeed start popping up daily with their political BS or start playing the victim, I snooze them for 30 days. Helps me to forget about them for awhile. When they come back and remind me how insane they are being, I just unfollow them. Then they never show up again.
I do the same.

Mind you, most of the time I don’t have the Facebook app on my phone and I have the newsfeed-eradicator plugin on my PC.

I install the app on my phone every now and then just to check something, then I just delete it again.

My feed is overrun with mini Gary Vees and business/life coaches. It’s tiresome.

I do study the ads though and find that interesting.

Where do you see systems designed to break your spirit?

The video in your sig is quite interesting

u know u got me thinking more about ur question, it took a couple of days for my thoughts to crystalize, and more realization came to the surface.

So when i started my "career" at 23 in the cubicle, i went from playing sports almost every day for hours to literally sitting at a computer in a cubicle for 8 hours a days + another few hours at home working on my fastlane dreams.
Every morning like everyone else, id stop by the corner deli before work and get a nice processed Bacon Egg Cheese on a Croissant or Roll, sometimes 2.
For lunch id go to one of the many spots outside and get some typical city lunch.
About a year and a half into my job, i get transferred permanently to the night shift, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back, and I developed chronic fatigue, sleeping 10+ hours a day and waking up tired just to go to work at 10pm again.

I was feeling something that I could only describe as a Vice Grip on my Soul. It was squeezing me harder and harder and harder and I couldn't keep up with unsqueezing that vice grib.
I felt like i was playing catch up to life, and that i couldn't catch a fukin breather.
Every time the weekend came and i felt i could unwind a little bit, monday showed up way too soon.
It's i was submerged under water all week holding my breath, and then on the weekend i can come up for a precious gulp of air, before being submerged again for another work week.

I feel like the system is designed to JAM PACK your day with shit to do, and we're forced to play permanent catch up.
i think an 8 hour shift 5 days a week is brutal(and yes i know in industrial revolution they worked 12+ hours, which is inhumane)

So you work 8 hours, maybe travel 2 hours total, sleep 8 hours, that only leaves 6 hours. you gotta eat, shit, etc, and then how many hours do you have left for urself to live your life?
when i was full on working on my apps including work, i basically had no life. and it burned me out badly, real badly.

I believe it's by design, make it real hard for someone to escape the system, make 8 hour shifts the "standard".
Also at my job my boss frequently said "you need to have a sense of urgency", what a joke.

Now i live like a total peasant, my monthly expenses are minimized as F*ck, but i get to work part time for now, i learned my lesson. If i'd known better, id have went this route 6 years ago.

Now some of this you can fairly say is my own IGNORANCE, NAIVETY, etc.
but here's what i got to say, i went to SCHOOL like a good little boy, from kindergarten to graduating from college at 23. I've been in school my entire fukin life until then, in that nice SCHOOL BUBBLE, and in all that time they haven't bothered to teach me anything to prepare me to avoid burnout at work, proper dieting, critical importance of exercise, and managing expectations in life.
All that time in school and they didn't teach me Life Skills. I had to learn the hard way lol

I believe the system is designed that way on purpose.
OH and lucky me at least im not riddled with DEBT like most people my age are, at least i dodged one F*ckin pothole that the system likes to put in your way...

EDIT:
oh and you can go even deeper into the conspiracy.
Of course the system is designed to make you overworked, stressed, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise.
This is all just so Big Pharma can offer you all the drugs in the world to treat your symptoms, and avoid changing the lifestyle that caused you these problems in the first place.
Our doctors are being trained to offer solution in line with Big Pharma instead of thinking critically and offering lifestyle solutions, its all by design.

Don't even get me started on the ubiquity of free porn, and how consumption of that sedates the minds of men everywhere and causes long term behavioral changes, but i dont wanna go off on a tangent.

The more i think about these things the more i see puzzle pieces fitting together, and some group pulling the strings and benefiting enormously.
This is why i says there's no sense of community, we're not all in it together for the betterment of ourselves and society, its every man for himself. its like a Civilized Wild West, a fukin paradox.
There's pockets of like minded people like this forum, and thank god for that.

There's probably more stuff, but ima tread more carefully here.
Like for example, i was the park complaining to a 60+ year old friend of mine about the crazy rent situation and just survival costs in general, and he told me that he just can't remember that being such a big problem back in his day as far as rent and bills and stuff.
Shit was just cheaper back then.
Now you can make 15 bucks an hour full time and most of that shit is still gone for rent and bills, unless you're willing to live like a peasant, which i am.
But i could be wrong since i wasn't alive back then so i don't know.

I did not read any of the replies, but concerning facebook and creating chaos in society that what is happening nowadays, watch the great hack and you will understand what i mean. Maybe people think it will be far fetched but it is easy to create chaos and target people individually via facebook.

@luniac I understand some of the feelings you describe. It resonates with why I tried to not work for as long as possible. Wage slavery and all that.

How much of what you went through/are going through is in your control?

I ask again too, What is good about the system?

As I got older, not that I'm that old, I found more and more so that people are paid in proportion to the value they provide their country and the world.

So then, How do you contribute? You need not answer this, but think about how many people you impact daily, how much value you create daily.

Yes you get paid your perceived worth, u must impact people at scale or a few at high price, i accept this as the truth, its fastlane 101.

Sometimes i am bothered by the fact that this is the only way.
Sometimes i feel like F*ck value and F*ck people, i don't want no part of it, i dont care.
I sometimes don't want anything to do with servicing anyone in society, rather just be alone in the woods, hunting deer and shit, living in a wooden shack.
If it was the 1800's id be out on the frontier adventuring, discovering.
if it was 2180, id be on spaceship or some shit lol

But this ain't an option, if you wanna live a good life, you gotta service the market in some way, i get that.
At least going your own path is like a pseudo adventure, cause you never quite know what your big breakthrough will be, what fastlane will end up yours.
If you follow a predetermined career with clear career ladder, you know EXACTLY what you're gonna get, boring...

Still its 100% better to build your own business than someone else's, at least you own that shit.

If you think about it, on some level fastlane success is what allows us to have the freedom to say F*ck value F*ck people im not servicing anyone ever again if i dont feel like it.
but to get there you gonna have to provide a lot of perceived value.
Catch-22 haha

I find myself fascinated by medieval settings in books and games, and I often fantasize about how cool it would be to experience life back then. I share your view on this!

It also helps me whenever I feel like I'm having it hard, I think about how life was a thousand years ago, and I'm instantly back to being thankful for what I have.

Attitude of gratitude. This is a powerful technique, I do it too. I think others should take a moment to think about this, especially if/when you are feeling negative about life.

WTF is wrong with people? Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say I'm morally superior but it's like this constant battle staying connected to society and just wanting to get a brickphone and keep informed through the little TV headlines on my job's elevator because I'm so tired of reading nonsense!!

I'm so disconnected, it even feels lonely. Whatever happened to making a logical argument? Ah no let's just throw ad-hominem fallacies that'll work, I win. UGA UGA yo momma so fat real socialism hasn't been tried yet!! Nordic countries are socialist just because they have welfare and UBI!!

Hold on how about you rethink that statement? -AH NOOOO, YOU ARE SUCH A SNOWFLAKE FOR POINTING MY FLAWED LOGIC OUT! LOOK AT MY ONE AND ONLY EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTS AT BUZZFEED SAYING YOU ARE WRONG!

...

I swear I want to be more social why is it so hard to find common sense. I don't even want to be right most of the time, I just want to exchange ideas. That's why I don't delete or hide people with different ideologies. But they make it impossible! I don't want to look at my phone, then again I don't want to be isolated, wtf is one supposed to do.

OK, so you don't have to get a brick phone or anything, but in some ways you need to disconnect.

People are at where they're at, & either don't want helping, or if they do, they're going to go seek out the form of help they think they need, & that might not be a Randroid* awakening. Just like you come to the Fastlane for help, because it's where you think you'll find the help you want, if you thought differently, you might be actively seeking to improve your future by campaigning for a particular flavour of government to step in & solve things. If you thought differently still, you wouldn't be actively doing anything about it beyond complaining.

So, beyond stoically accepting what you can't control, what can you do?

Firstly, & most obviously, you can reduce or cut out spending time (or internet time) interacting with (or simply reading the posts of) people that really infuriate you. Spend less time on social media, hide them from your timeline, or snooze them for a bit. Don't make plans with them as often. I appreciate this really really doesn't solve it all though if you have a desire to still engage with certain people, even those you disagree with.

So secondly, know what brought you together in the first place, identify where in your venn diagram you still overlap, & focus your engagement with them on those grounds.

If you grew up with them, then focus on your shared past & "catching up" on where people are at, "remember when..." "did you hear so-&-so had a kid?..." etc. No it's not the deepest thing in the world, but if it's a relationship you want to keep, then this'll let you have a pleasant enough time doing so.

If they're your art friends, talk art. If they're your BJJ friends, talk BJJ. Your primary area of overlapping interest, plus how they're doing in their life/work/relationships/etc. can make for a really good bonding chat.

Online, you can ignore their complaining posts, & just engage with pictures of their cat.

If you happen to find you overlap in more ways than you first thought, then hurrah! But release the hope (& to quote MJ something about "lowering expectations" ;)) then you can be simply pleasantly surprised.

Thirdly, don't do politics(/philosophy/economics) online. Especially on social media. It's not a medium that's ideal for nuanced debate, even with people you agree with. If you want to find good discussion with people you both do & do not agree with, then try real life. In person meetups, debating groups, econ talks where a speaker says a thing & you can just discuss it socially with the other members of the audience afterwards. You're far FAR more likely to be able to constructively challenge each other in person.

Online, I have friends in a couple of different political bubbles. In some ways I find it amusing (one post: who are these people that voted like that?! I don't know anyone! How did they win?! - right next to a post in my feed from another friend of mine crowing victory), the ones that are ridiculous I either try to see the funny side, or just disconnect from it & move along. They're gonna do what they're gonna do, & I just need to protect my sanity. I would only really consider engaging (whether I agree with them or not) in real life. At most I'll bridge those subjects in a forum like this. But you let me witter on here, so I feel like I can talk enough to get my point across

Forthly, obviously, you have to seek people out - target who you want to meet - & accept you may have to do a lot of it! Even my friends who think similarly to me on a lot of political/philosophical/economic matters (who I met through going to an economics talk - go go!) haven't necessarily translated that into "well, I need to be an entrepreneur then". Keep them, find more. And when you do find your people, it's worth flying across the ocean to meet them at the summit ;) But as someone who's already chosen to move to a whole other country to improve your life as you see it, I'm sure you get this.

...and just wanting to get a brickphone and keep informed through the little TV headlines on my job's elevator because I'm so tired of reading nonsense!!

And actually I mainly do get my news through some "breaking news" push notifications on my phone. It's amazing how often you don't need to read more than the headline to know all you need to know & more!

*Randroidian? I don't know, I just find Randroid a funner term than objectivist :smuggy:

Edit: Sorry I put that stupid title as a placeholder and then I forgot to replace it for something more relevant.

Disclaimer this is a full-on rant and I just want to complain

I see this on Facebook since I periodically gotta keep up with the animal videos my mom and dad like to put on my wall:

View attachment 30760

It says "If the ones below get up, the game ends"

Well haha the ones below are just waiting for the ones on top to drop the next iPhone right? The last TV, the last console, etc etc, except they can't make ends meet because the greedy banks charge them interest on their maxed out credit cards!

Friend comments on Facebook "Nah the ones up there never did anything in their lives, they just make bank from people"

Really? Really MF? Do you know how Rockefeller started? Ford? Oprah? Whatsapp's founder? Starbucks founder? etc, etc, etc, etc? There's TONS of examples on Google. Y'all just have excuses for why your life isn't up to you and it's always someone else's greed or w.e. You're so exploited omg I feel so bad. "This is just feudalism, the one owning the land scratches his a$$ while we work it" Well if you are so noble and smart why don't you save and get a piece of land of your own? Oh I bet you have an excuse for that too, don't you. (Spoiler: he did)

There's this X ad about stuffed animals that become hoodies popping on my IG feed (which btw only has a few artists and that's it), just like PillowPets but with hoodies. I go in to ask whether they come up all wrinkled when you unfold them. Random comment "sigh, I don't see any brown kid, nice ad" What? Did you even look at the whole ad, for starters (because there were several ethnicities, for the sake of the argument), do you realize a small business might not have money to hire a bunch of models and might be using just family friends or w.e....but if you are going to point out representation how about you do it in a less passive aggresive way? Takes the seriousness out of your plea and makes you look like an idiot.

That's just today and yesterday.

WTF is wrong with people? Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say I'm morally superior but it's like this constant battle staying connected to society and just wanting to get a brickphone and keep informed through the little TV headlines on my job's elevator because I'm so tired of reading nonsense!!

living in solitude is the best practice one can do.. just train your willpower, if people add no value to your life just don't associate with them, I can't really talk since I am pretty addicted to my phone... technology addiction is a real thing. Humans crave dopamine and all these media, social platforms know that and exploit it . Unfortunately we live in a brainwashed society and just have to accept it and lead by example! but I don't think complaining is a good thing to do, even if you complain in your head since it makes your mind become a victim. literally like 90% of people have a victim mentality and they cannot logically rationalize why there life is in such a bad place so feel the need to blame something, anything or anyone about their failures and that is where mediocrity starts...

We are social animals, though. There are studies showing how isolation drives people crazy! It's just that I feel social media opens the door to so much BS.

meh I think people spend to much time talking to other people and not enough time talking to themselves. yeah i know what you mean about being social animals.. I literally talk to toxic people I know that are bad for me but I do it just because I feel a need to socialize.. I just I could live in isolation sometimes... well away from social media at least.. I bet living like 40 years ago was so much more rewarding socially when instagram and all these dating apps did not exist, makes people so judgmental..
