Hello, all!

My name is Patrisha L. and I'm new to Fastlane. I'm married to Ben, whom you know as @JustAskBenWhy . I have never participated in a forum or blog like this before, so I'm sure you'll all get a few laughs at my expense as my "green" aura exudes from my threads and comments.

I have no expendable time in my life for socialization and ego boosting. I'm here to learn from other people who have succeeded in building an internet audience and public presence. The one thing in my life right now is to complete and launch my first product online. I'm well on my way and expecting a launch by January of 2016.

I'm passionate about promoting autism recovery based on diet and lifestyle, and about creating awareness of autism triggers. Autism is an epidemic, affecting 1 in 68 children in the US. In 1975 it only affected 1 in 5,000.

My son, Aaron was diagnosed in 2013 and today, thanks to many hours of study, blood, sweat, and tears, he is recovered with only a few minor repercussions that we are still helping him through. My product is Autism Recovery University, which is a course about autism recovery based on my experience healing my son. I want to reach as many people as I can with Aaron's story and message.

I joined Fastlane because I know that my business sense and strategy will ultimately determine my success in being heard worldwide.

-Patrisha

P.S. Ben told me to say hi to a few of his friends. Here's a shout out to @jon.a and @Vigilante - He told me that I should listen to and watch you both very carefully. He seems to think you're pretty smart!

Are there any particular Autism charities that you support and find more worthwhile than others? Who is doing a good job of raising awareness and funds towards a cure, with a high percentage of the funds going towards actual research and solutions vs. overhead?

Just as a side note, I edited out your full name as we like to keep full names out of discussions for search engine purposes.

Welcome aboard.

My product is Autism Recovery University, which is a course about autism recovery based on my experience healing my son. I want to reach as many people as I can with Aaron's story and message.

Now there's a strong purpose and a strong need.

Find your focus. It will change your life.
Thank you. You've just put into two sentences something I've been wrestling with for a few months (years?) now.

Best of luck on your mission.

Babe, @TheDamageUndone - welcome to the FastLane!

Guys, I wouldn't do an iota of what I do if it wasn't to make my wife proud... Thanks for welcoming her so warmly. For 4 years she's been carrying a weight unimaginable to me, and she is about to blow the roof off this thing. She will be an asset to this community and our sick Nation! She will touch a whole lot of lives in a very positive and productive way with Autism Recovery University!

Actually, no. This is one reason why I have been so motivated to contribute to this cause. There are plenty of organizations whose missions are to raise awareness and raise funds for researching a "cure". I personally found no help from these organization when working to heal my son.

The major premise of most autism organizations is three fold:
  • to promote early detection (which is not a major issue in the first place as every mother knows when her child is struggling developmentally)
  • create political platforms to lobby for insurance, scholarships, and aid
  • publicly address the issue of social acceptance for the disabled nature of an autistic person
Furthermore, awareness of autism didn't help me avoid the triggers that were responsible for my son's diagnosis in the first place. I intend to guide my audience toward awareness of the triggers, not awareness of the diagnosis. This is so important because I believe that we cannot begin to effectively treat autism until we as a society openly admit to and accept what is causing it. The state that this issue is in right now is that there are some very accomplished and intelligent people speaking out on the triggers. They are not yet united in way that brings their message home for the average american to understand. This is one of my initiatives for my product, aside for sharing my son's story.

Excellent questions. Thanks!

By the way, there is no cure for autism.

This is great. We need more people speaking out about the wholes in the system.

So - I was recording and producing another seminar yesterday with @TheDamageUndone, and she was talking about the body's chemical pump we know as fight or flight, and how autistic kids are basically in that hyper state of readiness 100% of the time. Always more energy than they can process...

I was sitting there, listening, and realized - I am just a high-functioning autistic. I wonder if it's me, or if that's part and parcel with entrepreneurship...

Were you tested as high functioning autistic? I know a lot of INFJ's and INFP's were taking this test. I'm not autistic. I do know that cutting down stress, a safe environment, and building rapport does have an impact on many disorders. My son is an INFP and has A.D.H.D. which is cousins with Autism. I just noticed a lot of the feeler types were being diagnosed with certain disorders. HPS, Autism, Aspergers, A.D.D., A.D.H.D., Depression, and PTSD.

In some of them though, my theory was environment stressors, personality type of parents, authoritarian style parenting, and of course being conditioned into that state of anxiety and depression through interaction with abusers. I think some of them experience this.

PTSD and Depression will show the same as someone in a war with verbal abuse, and mental abuse. Memories keep those emotions and feelings alive, making them think they're in constant danger.

I really haven't looked into it from your angle. Interesting to see it. I believe environment plays a huge part in many disorders. Fight or flight is survival. I have a feeling those groups may be your target audience. I see them talking about this time to time about autism and aspergers. I don't know how you can utilize that information, but hope it's useful.

No, I've never been tested, but I wouldn't be surprised :)
ADHD is on the spectrum, and I definitely have that - I don't need a test to tell me. As far as I can remember, I can't focus on one thing for long to save my life. I have to be interested in it!

Now you have me interested. Someone once mentioned maybe my son was misdiagnosed. They suggested he was a high functioning autistic. And reading a few things since you posted this is leading me to asking more questions. My focus has been more depression, ptsd, and fear. Which means the amygdala plays a lot more into many disorders. It's an ongoing process though studying the brain. No one really taught me what to do with my son, but I always felt environment and stress played a key. He was a handful when he was younger. I used to study a lot on A.D.H.D. It's interesting so many disorders, and sensory experiences can be similar in symptoms in different ways.

Yes, the A.D.H.D. specialist stated my son could focus on what he wanted too, but it was like a conductor trying to get his orchestra to play, but everyone wasn't playing at the same time.
