Are there any other entrepreneurs who are active in social work on this forum?!

I Work with youth and youngsters, families, schools etc. for more than 25 years. I have also been giving training to professionals, both in real life as online, for many years now. Also written two books etc. I'm also specialised in working with Autism and working with gaming youth

I still love my work, but it is very specialist work and therefore difficult to scale. Clients ask for me or my compagnions , and it is also difficult to find good professionals who offer the same level off experience and working methods of our companies.

We've already had a company with over 30 employees, don't want to go back to that idea. We would like to work with freelancers, much less hassle ;).

Often assigments are payed by public funds, and the private market is difficult (in the Netherlands). Families are used to the fact that the governemt will pay. Thats why we focus more on professionals as a market (training, coaching, etc). But here there also asking four us!

I'd like to hear from other entrepreneurs who are also active in the same field , and how it's all going in your country.

Our companies: (sorry all in dutch;))

Specialy youth and youngsters. When i was at that age, and it wasnt going well, i really missed someone tha stood beside mee. That's my main drive!

I provide the only group of affordable housing for my community... and the only self-service Laundromat. I'm always watching out for someone among my tenants. 21 households are disabled or seniors -- or both. I have 50 kids who live on my property. I do LOTS of social work every day.

That's great, how do you get your income? I think people pay rent or do you (or the families) also receive support from local government?

I think social enterpreneurship is a great way to create purpose and value !!

I have a mobile home park where I own almost all the mobile homes -- that I rent out. It is a classic productocity. Some of the units are rented with the government's assistance through a Section 8 program. I get my rents the first of every month. I have a community within the greater community. Today I'm 100% rented up with a long waiting list.

I try to be a good example and create a sense of community. And I encourage everyone to help the people around them. Kids' clothes get passed around from family to family. Extra food and goods are also shared. Neighbors check on neighbors -- and help each other. Squabbles and problems require a sit-down session to try to work them out. That requirement causes many to work it out before they come to me with their complaint. Everyone knows that I evict people who are disruptive and refuse to fit in here. Or I encourage them to move on to somewhere else. I'm blatantly against bad behavior or someone being unkind to another.

I have parties for the kids where we pick up trash and clean up our space. I have an antique tractor with a brush hog for mowing the big areas. I like to do that on Sunday mornings so I get to talk to a lot of people here. We all wave at each other when we're driving on my roads. The kids follow me around. I look like a mother duck followed by all of my ducklings.

And I introduce people to create more socialization opportunities. This week, my disabled veteran lady needed a new PCA (personal care assistant). So, I introduced a lady, who is a PCA, to my vet who lives 4 trailers from her. I checked and it's all working out just fine. My vet was having to call the EMTs when she fell on a regular basis. Now she has help 4 trailers from her. And the PCA can gets plenty of hours and walk to work. They like each other. It's an elegantly simple solution.

I probably telling you more than you wanna know... I've been doing different renditions of this all my adult life. When I was in Los Angeles, I helped start a women's shelter where we took women with their kids -- the first one who accepted kids. I was the Chairman of the Board for 5 years. And I have always worked. I've been self-employed for 45 years. That factor gives me the freedom to do it my way.

Wow...that's a nice story.
That's good work for a lot of people.
Different than what I do, but still we work with people instead of products.
I think that's is a total different way of doing business.
The difficulty for me in the beginning was that I had to ask money for helping people....but I was good in what I did so why not charge for it?
Personally I think there is not enough attention for entrepreneurs in our field. It's sometime hard to stay commercial when you work with people.

Hey, maybe this is a new plan ;) Guiding social entrepreneurs

I help those who are struggling to help themselves.

My lady who helps me, by covering for me when I need help, has been here for 1 1/2 years. Her ex had her teenage sons and he got arrested. The state put her sons in a foster home within 72 hours. She was at her sister's house in Kentucky having surgery and she's disabled. She dropped everything and came immediately with her one suitcase. They told her that it would take 2 years to get her sons back out of foster care. With my help, she did it in less than 6 months. And they're all doing fine. One of the boys is turning 18 next week and he just graduated with honors from high school. I so proud of this woman and her boys! She's done good!

Almost everything that I do is quietly behind the scenes. I'm to the point in my life where I can make a real difference without making a big splash. It's all under the umbrella of my businesses.

Maybe. But if the motivation is to pivot away from the current business models because they don't lend themselves to making a solid profit... then is guiding/teaching those models the right solution?

Not trying to be a dick, a genuine question. Perhaps I misunderstood and you had something else in mind. Is monetisation the pain point you're trying to solve?

No problem @Flint..it's a fair question. I try to explain

Te real problem is not so about monetisation. But I notice that sometimes can be a struggle to ask a good price for the work you are doing. Maybe it's a more a thing here in the Netherlands, but sometimes it looks like a taboo to talk about money when doing business in social work. ' How dare you to ask money if you help people who needs help '
But offering good help is really a specialized job!!

It's maybe more difficult in this field , it's more a'softer ' world in doing business. That's why it's called non-profit.
In the Netherlands entrepreneurs in social work are often called Cowboys.

On the other side, the big 'non -profit' organisations fail to work effectively. Get millions every year but fail through bureaucracy etc. I think they are the real Cowboys!!

Maybe it's more a mindset thing for the entrepreneur...

Super impressive Andre and WJK. I'm working on gamified mental health and creating fantasy themed apps that I hope kids and teenagers will enjoy. First one is out now (Meditation App) and we're about to start the Gamification elements. The Second (Productivity App) is at Testflight stage though a small study was already done and its proving useful to those with ADHD and autism.

Will be following your progress with interest. :peace:
