What ? How dare you glorify the slowlane on the fastlane forum ?
BUT - hear me out.
I've come to realize something.
What do all people on this forum have in common? We're all wildly ambitious. We want to get rich and successful quickly.
We also all have a rebellious streak. We want to escape the Matrix and become "Unscripted ". With MJ DeMarco as our leading example, showing us the way forward towards financial freedom. Go hard, follow the CENTS principles, achieve our dreams, ..
That's why we picked up those wonderful books.
There's more to life than nine to five, right ? Right ?
BUT
"Fastlane" success is not the ticket to happiness you think it is.
To best explain this, we're going to take the example of a video game.
Have you ever cheated at a video game? I was one of these nerds that, when playing video games, would look for ways to "crack" or "hack" them, changing some hexadecimal to something else in order to give me unlimited money or put the game in "god mode.".
By doing this, all incentives were gone and IMMEDIATELY the game stopped being fun. The developers built a precarious balance in which they dangled a carrot in front of you in order to push you to do something. You finally get the carrot and its little dopamine hit, and like the rat in a Skinner box, you're incentivized to go again.
It's pretty fun.
But by cheating, you drown yourself in carrots, and all incentives to move are gone.
You finally get all you materially want, you achieved it in the fastlane and you're lying on some beach. Are you happy ? You probably are not.
Because the grind is what gets us out of bed in the morning. Always becoming better, healthier, wealthier, ..
Better versions of ourselves.
You might be on the fastlane track or the slowlane, what I've come to realize is that WE, the readers of Unscripted , WE are the types that will NEVER get to our destinations.
It doesn't matter if you're in the fastlane or the slowlane.
You're never going to arrive anyway. Embrace the journey. Honor the present.
German europop sensation has been telling us this for over thirty years : "The chase is better than the catch". (By the way this video clip is all kinds of weird)
We're never done. We never will be.
And if you know you'll never arrive - there's no rush in getting there.
BUT - hear me out.
