I guess I don't follow this stuff to know what is going on. I see Will Smith was angry because Chris made fun of his wife for being bald. Oh well, I don't feel bad for being clueless.

I don't either, but it was the first time Hollywood grabbed my attention in about 6 years, and it had nothing to do with the garbage they produce. I only found out because of a newsletter I subscribe to.

Same, which is part of why so many people think it was staged. (Besides Chris Rock standing there leaning his head forward grinning)

Ratings and attention were at an all time low without the slap.

Every big event has to have some sort of controversy. What would people talk about otherwise? Boring!

Well Canada is at it again. Legal system is playing "blame the victim" once again, only this time it is very very strongly affecting a close childhood friend and not just some random person I read about in the news.

Canada. Go. Get. F*cked.

On a serious note, tweets like this is why I stopped using twitter.

If you still would like to get the best of twitter, I suggest using the Lists and Mute functions. These two made my twitter experience much better.

1. Lists:

If you follow someone on twitter, your timeline will show:

- their tweets
- tweets that they shared (retweets)
- their replies to other's tweets
- tweets that they hit like on
- promoted tweets
- annoying ads

Instead, if you add them to a List rather than following them, you'll only see:

- their tweets
- tweets that they shared (retweets)
- their replies to other's tweets
- tweets that they hit like on
- promoted tweets
- annoying ads

Now, every time you login to twitter, your timeline will be blank (mostly). You can go straight to Lists section and read tweets from people you added.

You can create lists based on your interests (for example, some of mine are health, sales, writing, coding, and few others) and add people who you think post valuable content.

Lists can be either public or private. If the list is public, people you add will be notified. Also, anyone on twitter can see the people on your lists and their tweets as well.

If it’s private, none can see it and even the people you add to the list won’t be notified.

2. Mute words:

When corporate media is in full swing to spew a biased narrative, people post/share things without even verifying whether it’s true or not. The misinformation spreads faster. To escape from this lunacy, simply mute the words you don’t want to see.

Example: coronavirus, covid, lockdown, Russia, Ukraine, inflation, anything related to politics, etc.

You can mute them for a certain time period or forever. You'll no longer see tweets that contain the muted words.

Twitter now becomes a place to learn rather than being an entertainment cesspool.

That's awesome. Thank you for sharing it. I only use Twitter to post about my newsletter once a week and even that is enough to annoy me with 99% of irrelevant drama stuff. This will help filter it out.

I recently came across a comment on some forum that talked about the book The Dark Tower, by Stephen King.
I don't know why, but before I was not much into Stephen King's books, I was only interested in detective and murder books.
But I liked the commentary of the guy who was talking about it so much that I decided I wanted to read this book.
For some reason now I think I might like it)
It's a series of books that also tie in with a lot of his other work, but you can still read it on it's own. My favourite series of books of all time.

Pity the movie was boring and stupid. Really should have been a TV series.

Natural "short sleepers" thrive on only four to six hours of sleep per night. Their superpower arises from a mutation within one or more of a variety of genes. By targeting these genes with drugs or gene therapies, we all could become more efficient sleepers.

So interesting. Is anyone on the forum in this 1-3%?

source: How the Composition of Wealth Differs, from the Middle Class to the Top 1%

Simple conclusion: business equity is how you get wealthy. Obviously not surprising but nice to see it in a real-world-data graph form.
It also shows how the middle income group relies way too much on primary residence appreciation to increase net worth.

This is why real estate downturns hurt them so much.

I've now seen a few Youtube videos which say something like..

"Which in 2016 cost _______. but in today's dollars cost ______"

All 3 videos had starting years that were less than 10 years ago.

It's crazy how massive inflation is becoming normal.

So I order something online from Kroger‘s grocery store. And I go to pick it up and they forget to put it in my bag. So I called customer service to get a refund.

They say sure we can give you store credit for that. I’m like WTF? I want a refund onto my credit card.

She says she has to check to see if I can get a refund. WTF! Then she comes back and says she can’t give me a refund on my credit card.

Then get this…

She says due to the pandemic it will take 7 to 10 business days for the credit to show up on my credit card. What kind of bullshit is that! Lol

Like the pandemic would slow down credit card refunds!

This is why customer service just sucks everywhere in big companies.

I met Frank Stronach back in 2016 in FL at his horse race track. The man is a brilliant business magnate. And he has a point! We need people to work trades. We need to respect hard businesses that require trades.

Frank Stronach: Too many university grads, not enough tradespeople in Canada

Still to this day, European students who do not plan to study in university begin apprenticing in various trade programs at fourteen years of age. And while 14 may be considered too young by North American standards, I believe that when a student reaches the age of 16, they should be exposed to one or more various technical trades or industry-related jobs in high school.

Under my proposal, students between the ages of 16 and 18 would spend two years learning various trades at businesses and factories and restaurants outside school. Students would be exposed to four different trades over two years — with training in careers such as plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, metalworking, farming, culinary arts and health care — and students would spend approximately six months in each trade.

America too.

They've identified the correct problem (after decades of missing it), but now I'm afraid they are formulating the wrong solution.

Trades still face a massive problem: over-regulation and over-qualification. Too many certificates and too many rules.

We are steadily increasing the number of people in trades, which is good (there is still a gap) but we want people who have no education at all to still have a path to work too. They also want it, and need it.

Right now a pipe fitter can go straight into a job as a sweeper or helper and start learning and get promoted but someone like a welder needs more official training, and code reqs and regulations are actually making the supply gap worse.

The code is becoming more strict on top of this supply problem. Double whammy!

It seems to be the path though, all of these continue to decrease competition with more licensing and education requirements, which also decrease the pool of workers and increase costs.

edit: pipe fitting works perfectly now as it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if the government decided to require some kind of license and formal stamp for no reason in the next few years. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if eventually you have to have some kind of license or certification to call yourself a "programmer" by the law, with the way our governments are headed. Half of this forum would be arrested or fined!

Over the weekend we went kayaking and outdoors-ing, and watched fireflies. This was in a park that is known for lots of fireflies. Next, this week in fact, is bio-luminescent jellies. It is the time of glowy creatures.

Can I put bio-luminescent jellies on toast? No?
