Hey Everybody,

So great to be here. I listened to TMF about a year ago and today finally decided to join the forum to get involved and seek some advice.

I'm 3 years deep into my journey; I've worked the last 3-5 years in hollywood doing various operational jobs, usually in office environments.

My goal overall is to create a content and informational product centered brand, with coaching.

Right now though I have a decent handle on my finances from working 70-80 hour weeks (45 regular, 15-20 uber, the remainder grinding on biz)

The thing that brought me to the forum is - I was laid off in october - well before COVID.

I got a generous severance and have had unemployment as well, and my finances are fairly well sorted.

However, I need to get back into the slowlane for a 9-5, to keep my money and my health going in the right direction.

I have some health issues that have accrued over the years from ignoring, and I have a decent amount of brain fog and fatigue.

What I really need is an EASY 9-5 so that I can collect a paycheck without having to do severely mentally taxing work, and then I can research and apply health solutions at night, and still work on the brand.

I've even done the math --

With a job that has health insurance covered, I would lower my rent to about 700-800 down from 1350.

Attached are my options for hourly pay, green = SAVINGS per month preferred options, yellow is not preferred but would also do.

This takes into account ALL of my expenses and the financial impact on my budget based on the hourly rate of pay.

My question to you all is: Are there any jobs (or strategies) you'd recommend that will enable me to find a 9-5 to keep the money coming, plus get insurance, is in an office or similar but is not super taxing?

Cheers fellas (and ladies).

So glad to be here!

** Oh, and if this is not the right place to add the question I can certainly repost elsewhere!**

Have you done a similar exercise to figure out what you need to earn so you don’t need a job?

If you’ve savings then you’ve some runway. If you start ramping up monthly revenue then that runway starts extending out.
Let’s call your total monthly outgoings 1x. If you can get enough revenue to reach 1x (after costs and taxes) then the runway extends out indefinitely and you can focus on growing your earnings. Have you used your spreadsheet skills to calculate that as well?

What can you do to make a sale this coming week? If you can’t make a sale then what can you do to help someone this coming week that other people charge for?

Let’s say you create some service that people pay for monthly and you earn Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR). If you grow your MRR by $X per month then how many months will it take to reach 1x? What’s realistic so you can hit your “Independence Day” as described by @Vigilante in his Mind Your Business radio show? (I’ve not listened to that episode yet so am assuming I’ve understood correctly.)

EDIT: Here’s the episode. Do yourself a favour and listen to it:
> ‎Mind Your Business: Independence Day and Finding True Freedom (Quit Your Job) on Apple Podcasts

I’ve just listened to it and Dave calls it your “Freedom Date”. His process to work out how to get there looks a tiny bit different to mine, but it’s a moot point. The WHAT and WHY are the same. It’s the same goal for the same reason. Pick one way or make up your own.

I say this because:

1) It appears your health is suffering because you’re working too many hours.

2) You’ve been trying to work and build a business for three years and not escaped yet. How many more years of doing the same thing will it take? I wonder/worry that doing the same thing will get the same result.

You’ve got savings and can maybe focus on earning revenue now rather than finding another job. (Both require effort.)

I wonder/worry that you’re not thinking of making a sale soon enough with your business. (I could be wrong of course. Maybe you’re already making sales?)

This line is part of what’s causing my worry: “My goal overall is to create a content and informational product centered brand, with coaching.” In my experience messaging thousands of forum members, people do better thinking of who they can help this week, and how they can make a sale this week.

Help someone. Make a sale. Start now.

Hi @TheIntrepidEntre,

I personally find giving life advice always a bit delicate, but I can share what I have done in a similar situation.

I cut expenses as much as I could, started working less to get better health-wise again and tried to avoid taking a job at all costs.

Is there anything that you could help somebody with this week? Can you make a sale of some sort this week? Then take it from there?

Hi Andy,

you are right -- focusing on sales now would be the right move; except to me my preferred model is to work the job and build on the side. That savings account must continue to grow, and I also have some credit card debt to shuffle.

I think overall however your assessment is correct, but I am definitely preferring slow and steady. I can do another 3 years If I need to.

Truth be told I can't really think about it until the health piece is restored. I can do that simply by working 40 hours in an easy job and spending my remaining hours researching and fixing those issues, and create value and drive content to my brand via content as well.

I want to make sure I never go broke, ever.

Grant Cardone has a maxim that goes "Do you want to get rich quick, or get rich for sure?"

For me, I want to get out for sure, rather than quick. If quick was what mattered most to me, I'd just go work a teaching job in asia.

I'll have to give that podcast a listen! Will report back when I've done so.

I hear you brother. I guess my strategy is to get the easy job AND lower the expenses. My health is slowly improving, just takes time.

There’s a phrase I like:

“Start as close to the end as possible.”

Bear in mind what your end goal is, and maybe brainstorm how to start closer?
