Just about any skill, if you're good enough at it.

Didn't I just read that you wanted to start a personal training business? I'm confused.

Facebook Ads?
Google Ads?
Web Design?

Personally I’d pick a skill that has MRR and that will help your future business.

If you're ripped, why not get into training people?

10 people at around $200-$400/mo and you easily hit your targets. You can start locally and online.

You already know what to do and how to do it... work with that

Direct response.
Lead generation using PPC ads.
General online marketing.
Azure and AWS cloud architecture. This one could make you $5k-10k per month. Just get certified and do work on upwork and freelance sites like that.

Ok. Totally non-fastlane answer.

But did you consider finding a remote job. Yes JOB. There are many companies that allow people to work remotely these days.

And don't watch too many of those dropshipping fba work from the beach videos on Youtube. It's not that easy. (only if you buy their course lol)

Monthly Recurring Revenue.

It doesn’t have to be monthly. The beauty is that the customer pays you regularly.

“The Automatic Customer” is a good little book.

Don’t force people to pay recurring. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense. But consider building a business where clients pay you every month.

This may not be a popular answer... but for the past 6 years I have done door to door sales for a pest control company. I only did it during the summer months, and then took the other 8 months of the year off. That being said sales is not easy at the beginning, but it is very learnable. I’ve seen some nerdy, awkward dudes learn how to sell well door to door. My best summer I earned 190k and my worst summer I made 77k (when I was starting). Again, I know this wasn’t exactly what you were looking for, but it literally gives you most of the year off and enough cash to travel and gets you out of a year round 9-5.
Also many companies that do this type of sales program are nation wide.

I would recommend (basic) web design. I generally make anywhere between €2000 to €9000 per month doing this and have literally done so while traveling the world and living in different countries including the states, south africa, the philipines and spain.

Just thought I'd share my ten penneth as I was in the exact situation as you and pulled it off.

I was floundering from action fake to action fake through most of 2018 - building half-assed sites, reading success books, trying (and failing) to learn to code.

I was also half-heartedly looking for remote jobs, while living in Asia and teaching English part-time. Unfortunately I didn't really have many digital skills except for being a decent writer and having a passing familiarity with SEO and basic marketing.

I was reading Unscripted , and one piece of MJ's advice really struck me: sometimes the best thing you can do is get a damn job, to learn valuable skills and get to know an industry. After that I really put more effort in.

Soon after I landed an (unpaid) 3 month part-time digital apprenticeship with a fully remote SAAS tech startup. After a month they asked me to come on full time as a writer for $2000 per month. A year later I'm leading marketing for the company - in charge of the blog, podcast, newsletters, SEO, social media, content marketing and paid advertising. It's been one of the most challenging but rewarding years of my life actually, and I feel a lot of things really starting to click now. It's great that I can take this work anywhere around the world, the team and boss are awesome, and I'm also starting to see business opportunities all the time!

So I would say becoming a good writer is one of the lowest barrier skills that is in tremendous demand. Lots of companies pay good writers several hundred dollars for a decent article, and as long as you can speak well and think logically you can be a good writer. It is also one of the foundational skills for being good at a lot of other aspects of marketing IMO!

Thanks MJ, you prompted me to start a whole new career.

Hi! In an earlier thread You need a lot more ca$h than you might think, you seemed to have other thoughs on the subject. What changed your mind? What was your personal process? How long has the journey been, to where you are now? Thanks (Don't want to put you on the spot!! Just curious :)).

Sales is the most definitive path to success, especially if $2k/month is the goal right now.
Learn how to cold call, find a product or service or company with leads.

I'm applying for a job that's half legal (my background), half commercial, for that exact reason. It's about detecting needs of entrepreneurs and translating those to legal services and tools. I would be working in a team of team business coaches, sales managers en client advisors. I have an interview lined up on Monday dec. 2nd.

I'll only go with it if I feel that I will have enough opportunities and support in learning the commercial skills, though. At this moment, the job description is a bit vague. There's a lot that I want to ask about it. Ideas about clever questions to ask are very welcome!

I also could worry about the time I'll have left to build my own thing, but I can't just wait until everything is 'perfect', because... that's never going to be the case. I guess I just have to grab interesting chances whenever I get them, and take whatever time that I have left to proceed in entrepreneurship. It certainly is a step up from my current 100 % legal job (with the current difficult circumstances of too little staff and so on). But just to be clear: I'll only be fully happy if I can finally fully get the legal advisory part out of the equation. It's not me. And it's not fastlane anyway. (I'm expecting @Lucky Lu to react on this last one :) :))

Custom software development - my experience. If you can develop mobile apps, then it is more then 2k per months. In this case you can work remotely and have a career path in the future
Hi Michael,
How long did it take you to get there?
Thanks!

Are you already a developer, or skilled programmer?

If so there are tonnes of ways you can earn that or more.

If not it will likely take years starting from scratch to be able to earn a decent income freelancing.

I knew that, and other wise people have already told me that, but I guess I needed to hear that one more time. :) No, I have no background. And I need to focus right now, to get the fastest results. I'm looking into writing, and I will read that book "“The Automatic Customer” that Andy recommended. Thanks for your reply! Your story is inspiring.

Cool! Learning to code would be awesome but it's not for everyone. If you think you have some natural aptitude and interest then I'd say go ahead, but it'll be a long and challenging road.

Why not throw a simple WordPress site up and write ten detailed articles about topics you're interested in, learn about SEO and do basic optimization on the pages. This would impress a lot of people that are hiring for more entry level remote jobs and also help build your profile for freelancing!

Check out this guide and the other articles on his blog

Thanks so much for this great advice!!
I was already planning on creating an Upwork profile (I'm looking at Lex's course to do that, at this very moment), but these two go hand in hand! I got all Sunday now to get started with all this. This site you mentioned, looks great! I like this idea list idea! I'll get back to you soon about all this, if I may. :)
