Philosophical Convo. You have been warned.

Have you ever felt like you’re on the verge of having a really important aha moment in a conversation and then the person you’re talking to has to go?

This just happened to me. I’m starting to realize that although I would like to learn a great deal more about many things and have more stuff.. I don’t genuinely care about business the way successful people do. Thankfully I’m not crippled by this realization or beating myself up because I’m shallow. I’m not a shallow person.. it’s just I don’t have the depth of feeling and unselfishness for Business.

I know that I’m capable of caring more, of being more passionate.. but I also know it’s difficult.

I think this might be the One Thing that is preventing me from dedicating way more time and energy into business.. I care, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t care enough.

I’d much rather be selfish with my time and my finances (Sidewalk or Slowlane) than have to care about employees..

But I don’t want to stay that way.. it seems, well, kinda crappy. The thing is, all I know about is being kinda selfish about business. I work until I have enough cash and that’s usually where my caring ends. I can’t even comprehend moving from this level of consideration to a level where I care all day every day about not just my business but also employees..

From experience I know that the only way to grow in caring is to surround myself with people who care more than me and then kinda “catch” their passion.

On the forum we talk about hustling, working hard, clarity, goals, and more but.. I’m wondering if those of you who have businesses with employees would mind sharing stories of how much you care - about your actual business.

It’s your baby right? It’s your pride and joy? Was it always that way? It developed somehow.. did you decide to love it and then keep loving it? Like, how do I grow my heart three sizes for business?!?

I feel like the Grinch sometimes.

Ugh. I dunno what I’m tryin to ask.. help. Please. And by help what I mean is share anything at all you thought of when you read this cuz I don’t know what I’m trying to figure out exactly.. I just know it has to do with business, employees, unselfishness, and passion.

Thanks guys.

My takeaway is this:

I’d much rather be selfish with my time and my finances (Sidewalk or Slowlane) than have to care about employees..

You do not have to hire employees, but if doing so frees up your time and increases your financial success then it is in fact the selfish (and correct) thing to do.

And don’t forget, the fast lane and Unscripted mentality have little to do with wealth accumulation and more to do with freedom. So if you can achieve that without any employees why worry about it?

What I'm hearing you say is that you understand a particular distinction between the successful and yourself.

If you were able to figure that one thing out, you would be magically transported to be behaving like the successful and thus find that manifesting in material success.

Do you believe that? Is it possible that you don't believe that consciously but is it possible that it might be a driving factor in you feeling lost and reaching out to us?

Yet, why do you shun who you are? Will you be content when you are someone you are not?

Be okay with being selfish. With not being as loving for your business.

Edited some final thoughts: I'm not suggesting you settle for complacency or that it's a virtue with be selfish. I'm suggesting that you first accept what is. You've been able to see the reality of yourself. Now love it and roll with it. Play to your strengths, don't try to fix every weakness. Use the selfishness and emotional distance. Stay committed to growth. The rest will come naturally.

Well, this is kinda what happens to me when I surround myself with people who are more ____ than I am. I compare. I see discrepancies. I figure out what discrepancies need to change. I’m wondering if this needs to change.. or not.

I will not ever be able to subtract time from work without other people working for me. Hm.

Isaac, thank you so much for this incredibly insightful and kind reply. Lemme go point by point.

There are probably several distinctions between myself and ppl who are super successful but I think this is the particular nugget I’m working on understanding.

Magically? No. But with more peace? Yes. My mentor dude said “At some point you have to decide to commit” and I thought I had but there’s a big difference between committing to making your bed and committing to a marriage. I’m starting to see business ownership in a different light.. I’m just feeling an internal.. grating.. about going forward. Huh.

I didn’t think I felt lost.. but maybe I do a little. I have so many excellent opportunities staring me in the face but I keep.. delaying. It’s kinda preposterous.

Shun who I am..hmmm. Am I that transparent or are you that perceptive.. .. don’t answer that. Well either way, I figure you prolly had to go through some crap to gain that wisdom, so thank you again.

Maybe personal statements like that could be done in pm though? Cuz.. that felt kinda personal. And weirdly perceptive. And oddly helpful. Huh. I appreciate your time.
