Hi Everyone!,

I am new here but have been reading around quite a bit and see a lot of good advice and tips get passed around, was hoping I could get some myself.
I live in Houston Tx and see car accidents on a day to day base whether they be small or more serious ones. Some of the biggest issues facing people when involved in a car accident is getting all necessary information at the scene of the accident, filing a claim, dealing with insurance after the fact as well the other drivers involved.
It finally struck me that what if there was a app to simplify all of this?
Let me give some detail:
You are at a red light one day on a busy street during traffic hour stopped and out of no where the driver behind you isnt paying attention and rear ends you. First things first both drivers must get to a safe location and then this is where the App jumps in play! As mentioned before alot of people arnt really aware of what to even get from one another, so first you would open up the app and hit the "Ive been in a accident" button which will then begin the process. It will then go through step by step guiding you to gather all information necessary, take pictures of both vehicles, give current locations, and finally any additional pictures/comments to help the case. Finally once all is done it saves all this information(Of course in a neat manner for later use, as well a police report if any officers were on scene) and is filed into a format that can then be easily sent to your insurance provider which you would have easily given when first signing up with the app. Throughout the coming weeks communication with you, the insurance companies involved, and the other drive will be made extremely easy as a communication network of some sorts would be integrated. Now of course I want to point out this is all theorizing and nothing is in the works besides some good thought into this idea but I see it having possible potential and am excited at the idea and would appreciate as much feed back as possible both positive and negative.

I hope my stay on this forum is long and prosperous!
Thanks guys and gals!!,

My one initial thought is you would have difficulty getting traction as who would install it until they have an accident? Just like the early days of the internet people only installed AntiVirus after they had lost all their data.

How are you going to even get people aware of the app? Social media? How are you going to fund the ads? How are you going to monetise it?

Just throwing these out at you, in case you haven't considered them already.

Oh and welcome to the forum by the way. Nice to have you here. :smile2:

This idea sounds like it could be of interest to the insurance carriers themselves. Maybe one of the more tech-savvy ones would be interested in having this developed, since it could streamline their claim process and provide value to their customers.

I can't imagine downloading an app to help me with my car accident, but I could see myself using my AllState or Progressive app for other things including what to do if I'm in an accident.

Agreed.

I don't think many people would preemptively download this app. The chance of getting in a car accident is statistically low, and most people assume: "It would never happen to me" or "I'm a good driver."

Exactly. On the other hand, if I did get in an accident and had my Geico app already installed because I use it to track my bills and other account issues, I might think "Oh yeah, they have a thing for reporting accidents..."

This was my other thought. But it would be a tall order to get them on board due to the high levels of integration required. It would be the easiest way of getting it in the hands of the consumer though as the download and install could be prompted as part of the insurance procedure.

Very interesting idea, I agree in the fact that it could by a large margin increase there claim process speed/efficiency and by adding value to the customers. As well it would take out alot of the need to market the idea itself as it would be a subsection or ''benefit" to already having the insurance agency app downloaded.

Tough parts of this might be getting in contact with said insurance providers and pitching the idea and as Razercut mentioned would be a high level integration required that would require a good chunk of $$ i imagine.

I appreciate the feedback! Very thought provoking!

How do you beat first result of google for "Ive been in a accident" ?

Not to discourage you from finding the idea, just maybe this one isn't that one.
No worries, as mentioned all feedback is appreciated and this is a valid point.
To most people, I would imagine in a moment of high stress which most car accidents bring, they would be unclear on which source to trust or go to.
This would simplify and give a clear step by step process that is with you from start to end in a friendly familiar way that stays with you after the accident, helps with communication between all parties, and filing/keeping up with your claim.

Every major insurer has this feature built into their apps.

I would start by looking at reviews and see what complaints people might have so you can skew your value.

I should rephrase, because they allow you to submit a claim via the app, if you do it in real time they will prompt you for all pertinent information and photos.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you partner with insurance companies & have them offer a small discount to a customer who downloads this app.

I think it's a good idea in theory. People don't know what to do when they have a car accident. Photo-exchange insurance cards, tags, and driver's licenses. Warn people not to admit liability and prejudice their insurance claim.

Injury lawyers and insurance companies could be markets if direct to consumer doesn't work. Talk about ideas with different sales channels. This also might help you discover related needs.

Something to keep in mind is that the basic idea can most likely be copied easily. If you keep working with it, you may stumble upon a unique theory of operation, an execution angle, an interface innovation, or some special feature that makes the business easier for you than for others.

Make me an app that uses every food delivery service to combine them into one list that tells me the total price including delivery for all restaurants (uber-eats,door-dash,grub-hub,postmates,eat24).

Make an app that animal shelters use where they make an animal profile of each animal that comes in and they post it online and you can swipe on them like on tinder and you see pets on your phone first before you go in to the shelter to adopt one.

Make an app that is purely for finding actually fun activities in any area you go. Airbnb has "experiences" but it isn't that good. Sell placement spots for activity related businesses like how google sells adwords. I would actually use that app in place of googling "stuff to do in (city)".

(probably exists) make an app where you can put someone's face onto a little virtual doll and you mess it up like a voodoo doll and you can put people you hate on it. Everyone would put their boss or their ex-gf on there and let out some stress. Charge add-on fees for being able to do additional stuff like pay .99 to unlock the ability to catch the doll on fire.

I like the shelter app idea. You'd get on the news for that one.

At the risk of being pedantic, don't call it a car "accident." Call it a "crash." Accident implies no one was at fault. But almost invariably one driver or other is at fault in a crash. That's what the police and the insurance companies want to determine when they investigate. I suggest this with some authority. I'm a former certified driver ed instructor.

Also, @Johnny boy, the adopt a shelter pet Tinder app idea is brilliant!

If it was 'on purpose' insurance wouldn't cover it at all, and the police would likely arrest the person. You can still be at fault for an accident... it just means the accident was your fault, because you're the one who made a mistake.

The word 'accident' is what's actually written in your insurance policy. IT is called that, instead of 'crash,' because not all accidents are of the same type. There is collision with another car, or driving off a cliff, or upset (flipping over), or running over a deer, or accidentally slamming your hand in the door, for example. They're all accidents (if you don't do them on purpose), but they're not all 'crashes.'

This is already a thing in most car insurance apps.

To take the contrarian stance - maybe there is a place for "brand independent" app.

I'm thinking in the way that maybe each of car insurer's app would somehow try
to supply info less beneficial to car owner and more beneficial to insurer.

So maybe the app that is independent and gives unbiased view might be of some good.

Very true. My approach would be build it then knock on All State's door and say "Would you rather State Farm have it?"
