Hello all

My name is Lisandro, i have been playing videogames since i was 12 years old. I'm 23 now and i have quitted videogames, i really don't want to play them anymore. I have been through the feeling of wanting to quit gaming, and not knowing how to. I tried deleting them, i failed. I tried to have a new hobby, i failed. i tried to find some help on the internet but the information out there is not so good. So every time i wanted to quit gaming there was something that kept me into it, and the worst part was that i was really good at it. I was and still are a very good player. I use to play more than 7 hours a day, sometimes more, i played until the sun comes out.

fortunately i quitted, i stopped.

how?I have learned, I acquired the necessary knowledge to stop playing the games. I know what to do, step by step. and I have applied the same steps to other areas of my life. I have become so productive now that it's hard for me to believe. Now i study for pleasure, i read the books, i have more and better friends, i have better social skills, I have a better relationship with my family, I'm investing all my free time now on me.

And now, i want to share with all the people that know that they have to stop playing, I want to share my knowledge, I want to share my experience, i want to change their life, help others! So i thought on making an online course, with all the information and steps that they need to really quit games in days and start to change their hole life.

i want to know your opinion. please be honest, i want to know what your thoughts are about my idea.

This people is used to pay games online, but the thing is that i don't know if they are willing to pay for this course, i know i have valuable information, i can really help. i can change people's life.

i have read TMF agin and i'm not sure if it follow the commandment of need. all the other commandments are ok in my opinion.
but need, there is a need, i don't know if there is a lot of people out there willing to pay the price mainly because there is no other course about this, i couldn't find any other course.
there are some videos about it, and some blogs, but the information is not good. i trully believe mine is much better.

I want to learn to make money, and this may be good way to start.

The good thing is that I can make it in english and spanish. and i made some calculus and i have to sell 3333 courses to have the money that i want to have by next year hahaha.

is it that crazy to sell 3333 courses ? i check google keyword planner and there is not much volume in search

Let me know what you think :)

have a good day,

Lisandro

If you can help people, I say go for it.

I don't want to be mean but make sure you have an editor. You said you can do it in both English and Spanish so I assume English isn't your number 1 language.

Point is yes go for it. Video Games can be an addiction. I used to forgo homework back in high school and stay up all night to play video games. It would be a great service to provide guidance to teenagers and young adults to do better things with their lives.

spanish is my number one, but i have a friend that speak english as main language so she can help me with that and my pronunciation.
I will be my own editor, i know to to do it and i will learn more so i can be more professional.
I'll have to learn how to make a website! haha

What scared me most is the fact that i don't know if it will sell or not, because there is no other course about abuse of video games.

What numerical based evidence (search console, surveys you have conducted, or competitors in the space) that leads you to believe addicted gamers would be willing to pay money to purchase a program to help them kick their gaming habit?

Trial and error in business is costly both in your time and money. You need to be certain that there is a market for such a product before you put effort into building it.

When I was market researching my product (which is a self study program for people looking to overcome a specific phobia), I first created a facebook support group for those people, and found members from other similar groups on facebook. Once I had, say, 100 members who were engaged, I asked them to participate in a survey about their phobia. I asked them to rank 1-10 things like "How bad is your phobia?" "Does it disrupt your life on a daily basis?" and most importantly I asked "Would you be willing to invest $100 in a program to help you cure your phobia?"

I found from my research that a whopping 90% of respondents answered YES to my question about making a purchase. I then directed those people to a landing page where they could sign up to pre-order and that is how I started my list.

You need to be certain that people are willing to pay for your product before you make it... and not just "probably" will buy it, but you need them to tell you directly - and even better - get them to "pre-order" and give you a deposit. Credit card numbers speak louder than words.

Don't guess what your market is thinking! ASK THEM TO BUY before you even have your product finished. If they will - you have a good niche. If they won't, you are assuming too much. Time to pivot.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from Jim Rohn - he said "First make the sale, and then figure out how to deliver."

That is a great idea, thanks so much for the response, i will do that because there is no competition, that's why i don't know if they will pay for that

No problem. You are on the right track - you have to look for pain. My feeling on this is that your addicted gamers might not have enough pain associated with their addiction that they are willing to buy something to help them.

Smokers however... now there's a market!

It's really hard to convince someone they they have a problem and that you have the solution. It's better to look for where they are already hurting and then remedy that

I do like the idea but here are some thoughts:

As someone who had similar gaming hours like yours i ask myself, in which situations did i end up playing such a crazy amount of time. Most of them time it was because i had "nothing better to do". I do know others that would be better off doing other stuff, but they rather decide not to and just play games. It's 100% an addiction.

I'm uncertain about if it's possible to guide hardcore-gamers to quit gaming once and for all without bringing meaning and purpose to their lifes - which might end up as a pyrrhic victory if there's nothing for them to fill the void (no meaning and no purpose).

So some of them are quite comfy with their situation - yes they're wasting their lifes - but real life is this far distortion of their reality. I games they're the cool Level 110 whatever with all the good stuff and real life just sucks.

For each individual there's another part of life to cover to bring meaning and purpose into their lifes. I can't see how a course would cover all of this.

Just imagine the following client:

No job, wakes up between 10-11 am., first thing is gaming to 13-14 pm. have a little nap, gaming to 2-3 am., sleep. And if you want him to leave his comfort zone he says that he has a medical condition (although not true) or just doesn't feel that good right now and really can't do anything else but gaming today and tomorrow. And going to doctors is useless, because he has been to one and he couldn't help. If you try it more agressively he closes down and flees into gaming again.

This isn't made up because that's someone i actually know. I've been trying for around 5 years to change him by beeing a good role model and engaging him in stuff i do, but i've quit like 2 years ago because there's no will in him to change.

Yet - best of luck!

The only way you’ll know for sure is to test it for yourself.

One thing I would do in your situation is make sure I had a decent South Korean translator, as it has become a massive problem over there so would be an ideal market to test it out on. Only problem is that it’s a really difficult language to navigate if you don’t speak it (lived there for several months and tried myself) so you’d need a good translator you trusted.

Hi,

I suggest in stead of creating course on gaming, create course on how to leave addiction ( as gaming is addiction). Many people are trying to leave addiction and willing to pay.

Create different tier course. $9,$19$99 and make funnel wider.

It may help.

Thanks

Tanu

Im starting to think it's not a good a idea to start, I may drop it and continue my thinking

Why wouldn't it be a good idea?

I know a guy that started giving lectures about his game addiction in schools. He stood in front of thousands of young people and was also featured on national newspapers and radio. Parents go to him for help for their kids. It may not pay his bills yet, but he's on the right track to impact a big audience.

You can do the same. How you quit your addiction can be helpful to many people.

@Lisandro

please don't feel discouraged! Maybe you have a unique solution to this that no one ever thought of before. I think people that are addicted to gaming just need something to fill the void. And maybe if they see someone with the same flaws they have, making a step into the unknown in an attempt to getting his life together and help others while he goes would be really inspiring.

I think the message just has to be very clear for them. It's an addiction, it's not your fault, yet you're wasting your live, here's my way out of it - if i can do it, so can you - follow me around, let's do this.

Just be honest about it, be yourself, be patient, willing to admit your flaws and personal failures and grow with the people you're trying to help.

This could turn out wonderful and you could be the go-to-guy for this problem. It's a tough one though but if you're ready for the war on it, there's nothing that can stop you.

If you need some motivation, just look at what Elliott Hulse has done with his Strenght Camp youtube channel. Especially at his peak > year 2012. These videos get you pumped sitting in your chair and he adresses user questions in an "Yo Elliott" format. If you could get people to worship you similar to that - hats off to you sir.

Best of luck!

I don't think it's a terrible idea. But it could be hard to sell directly to your students. Would an alcoholic go into an self-imposed rehab? I don't know. But maybe more of them would go because of their parents and other close ones.

PARENT! Is your son a video game addict? Read this article and find out what to do...

Is your boyfriend spending more time on games than you? Do this 1 simple thing and you'll break his chains of addiction...

TEACHERS! Are you fighting a $137.9 billion gaming industry for the attention of your students? Let them listen to this ex-addict. Your student's will spend less time on games -- and improve their grades instead!

And obviously there are gaming nerds who want change their life on their own.

I think if you get a good editor, there is a need for this. This is an addiction. If you have valuable information to break an addiction this is a great truth to share. Your keywords might have to do with gaming addiction, or video game addictions, 12 step programs for addictions, alcoholism, gambling, smoking, and other addiction programs. Do your research on addictions. Understand how it works in the nervous system. Do your research on gaming addictions. Use statistics. Validate it with scientific research if there is any out there.

Do you know most addiction therapists, programs, and teachers were addicts to begin with? It all had to start somewhere.

I did not. But it's not like a majority addicts turn into therapists and teachers? Excuse my ignorance.

I just know that fact, because my father was an addiction therapist, and some of my professors, and a friend of mine that is affiliated with Teen Challenge. There's a huge amount of people who are addicts that become therapists, because they understand the process, how it all works, and addict just entering therapy feels more comfortable with someone who has walked the journey, versus a therapist who has never been addict and has no true clue on how it all works. I am sure some therapists might be successful who have been through addictive families and still succeed. It's a major issue in society.

I haven't parsed every response yet, however I think you may be on to something as far as PROVIDING VALUE.

As far as need/demand, there's a Reddit called "stopgaming" with 16k subscribers. There's new posts every day, so I'd go so far as to say there is a moderate "need" for it.

The question of course, is will people PAY for it...

That depends, in my opinion, quitting gaming, especially modern games with in-game purchases, is saving people tons of money. Not only will they have more time, but they'll save money dodging in app purchases.

I have a tangential idea for you that may be more profitable.

Recently I was hanging out with a longtime friend of my mom. She's quite successful, owns a 1.6 million dollar house, very successful slowlane/medium lane business as a therapist.

The thing is, she has a 16 year old son whose absolutely ADDICTED to League of Legends. She has no idea what to do. Poor kid will spend 8-16 hours straight playing, and spends all his gift money on in-game purchases.

What if you could market to PARENTS of game addicted kids?

You would have to really figure out how to provide actual results, which is probably the hardest part. Changing behavior, especially when someone doesn't WANT to change, and ESPECIALLY a behavior with a dopamine reward feedback like gaming, is basically the million dollar question in psychology.

That being said, I'd re-focus on seeing if parents would pay for a similar service. Just my 2c.

Personally I have played a lot of games at various stages of adulthood, but it was never really something that became problematic, I got bored with it eventually and don't play anymore much less compulsively. I also never got hooked on the modern games designed to absolutely screw you brain over, so I'm sharing this idea because its not something I would do.

Ahhhh you beat me to the punch, should have parsed the thread more carefully.

I second everything in this post.

EDIT: Just saw you asked about your course on r/stopgaming, I'm not necessarily saying this is the wrong approach, however I'd be more subtle.

Rather than ask "would you buy my course" I would ask things like "Has anyone done a paid course to help them stop gaming? Did it help you? I'm at my wits end and can't quit!"

Generally speaking, self-help communities that offer free support for each other are going to frown upon this direct sort of marketing/"research."

Are you expecting people to say "OMG I've been waiting for this! Where can I sign up to give you money!"?

Doubtful that it will ever pan out that way.

Gamers are likely a more internet savvy crowd than some of the other target markets out there. They are going to be wary of "scammy" or clickbaity copy. Think about it, you're talking about people who spend most if not all of their time online.

Yes, this is a problem for some people. It's kind of scary. I've been in touch with my best friend from high school. We're both older. She's spending ALL her time laying in her bed gaming. And she can't walk more than a couple of steps anymore, and she's on oxygen. She intentionally put herself in this position so she could go on disability to pay her bills while she games.

That's just pure crazy to me. I work hard to be healthy, and she's made herself sick to be able to afford her gaming?????

BUT, she would never pay for a program like yours because she's happy with her life. She said never to call her before noon because she's generally still asleep. She stays up and games all night long. Gaming has become her whole life.

I am planning a trip to the Lower 48, and I thought I wanted to see her. NOT. After listening to all of this, I'll pass. I don't even want to talk to her. I don't wanna get depressed over her crazy choices.

Here's a rule of Life I learned when I was young. If you hang out with a crazy person, you become crazy like them -- they don't regain their sanity. They rub off on you! I know it's not PC to say that. But in my experience, it's absolutely true.

I believe this is why we say we become like the five people we hang around. You gain their mindset and pick up their emotional, mental, and behavior patterns. There's lots of times I've broken out of unhealthy friendships. Eight years later they're still making the same mistakes. One of them still is on a game and it's sad, but it's a personal choice.

Great idea man. I used to play a lot, mostly WoW. One day I just quit (sold all my gear and donated the gold to the Guild :p). I understand the addiction and the problem. Good thing is that in case you haven't realized that yet is that you have two-three different types of audiences/customers:
1. The gamer that wants to quit
2. Its parents
3. Its friends

If you want to do this 'by the book', you can build a landing page with email capturing links and run a small marketing campaign around it to see if it would help you gain some audience before launching.

Otherwise, just write the book and start selling :)

This is one of the projects that it kind of helps to build a brand and/or community around it.

This is one of those things that there is a huge need for, but very little market. The people doing it don't have a better purpose, so they game. This isn't rocket science, there's a big need for people to do more meaningful things, but not much of a market. It's easier to game than do a lot of other things.

Thanks a lot for all the responses!

If I decide to do it, I will want to do a professional course and that will take time and money, so I want to be sure first.

I believe it's going to be more profitable to make it for parents

I'll start a/b testing adds ASAP

Video Game Addiction: Ready To Quit? Join Game Quitters Today

I also quit cold-turkey videogames.I played 12-16 hours average since 3yo.

That's really hard to do, those who aren't addicted to playing video games will never understand.

Once you find the door, is easy.

But to find the door is really hard.

You'll provide massive value if you do this.

How is the idea going?

There’s software out there to help people quit looking at porn - it sends your browsing history to a partner and emails them a flag of you visit a questionable site.

Make an app that texts your mom if you login to steam... or some sort of chastity belt device that you can put on your Xbox and can only be unlocked by a 3rd party. :clench:

There is this program called cold-turkey that I used to overcome my social media addiction. It was really effective.

G-Man gave you a great idea.

I have a similar addiction around snapchat and Instagram but fortunately not as big anymore due to me being busy and proactive.
