This is much better than the run-of-the-mill "you have to make yourself do it" motivational advice.

CHOICE!!!! It is what makes your world go 'round. Every moment of every day we present ourselves with choices. What we do with them provides us with our experiences!

Thanks @jon.a

Great video @jon.a This is definitely a great way to look ay life.

However, Bootcamp isn’t remotely close to this. I feel like I actually got stupider at Bootcamp because the DIs tell you exactly how to do everything, down to how to put on your socks in the morning. If anything, it created mindless drones that needed to relearn basic decision making skills after we left Bootcamp.

Which actually is a good point because if we look at a human resource system, if you delegate and give your employees/freelancers the control to make decisions on their own, they can be creative and use their own time. If you handhold and micromanage every step, you have to supervise 100% of their actions and only get a literal translation of your vision.

Maybe that is why soldiers get promoted or medals based on merits on the battlefield or heroism.

We learn by doing in the real world.

Nobody can teach us how to think. Or how to work.

I got a call from my old school. They want me back to teach trumpet.

I said,'Nope, I can't. The kids won't sacrifice their lunch hours and weekends to do grind work to learn the music instrument. I can't teach grindwork. It's up to the kids. They have to make that decision themselves.'

'Without the first work and struggle to master mouthing and stamina, no amount of teaching will work for trumpet.'

I learned trumpet myself without any formal instruction. I performed on a lot of events. The people clap and cheer and congratulate, but they have no idea about the tough mornings and afternoons spent on that damn trumpet mouthpiece.

Yet I pushed on. I just didn't like the idea of giving up because not many people would learn the instrument in the school band.

Music is not all glamorous as it is lol. So is the army....yet I see kids hyping on it as if the army were the next startup venture to make bank lol.

I've heard very similar things with regards to the bagpipes which a few of my friends used to play in cadets. They were ALWAYS walking around with their chanters (bagpipe mouthpiece) practicing everywhere they could to get the finger movements down and practice the mouth work. I couldn't believe how intricate that instrument was. Far more than I gave it credit for.

There's a lot of boring process behind most of the things we take for granted as spectators.
