A 3 decades long friend today told me, that her daughter writes books.
She does it for fun and uploads on a platform for free.
She has allready about 30 books written and wants poor people read it, too. So she doesn’t want to take money.
As I told my friend, that this could make her daughter a living, she said, she will talk to her daughter.
What a life changing thing that could probably be, if she just took a bit for the books.
I am not sure I would want to read a book that the author cared so little for their writing that they would give it away for free. No offence but how much of yourself would you pour into it if you cared so little that you didn't even want compensation for your time?

Curious about sleep rings / wearables.

My problem is that I have two states of waking up in the morning: fully awake and refreshed, and a level groggy that actual zombies would find concerning.

My schedule, diet and exercise are all fairly static, so I'm assuming the major determining factor is what state of sleep my alarm wakes me up in. I believe I've heard that some of these wearables can detect your REM state and adjust your alarm dynamically to wake you up when it thinks you're in the lightest stages of sleep.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? Do they work? A gimmick?
This is also me 100%

Like 15 years ago I purchased a watch called "sleep tracker" or something that would figure out if you were in a deep or light sleep, and would only wake you up if you were in a light sleep. You would set a hard target for an alarm where the watch would vibrate to wake you up, and you also set a window of time where it could wake you up if it detected you in a light sleep.

So if you set an alarm time at 06:00, and a 45 minute window, it would wake you up anytime from 05:15-06:00 if it detected you in a light sleep, and then go off anyways at 06:00 if it did not detect a light sleep.

This thing WAS AMAZING while I used it, but I have since misplaced it and have not used it in like 10 years. I purchased a garmin fenix 6 for tracking my workouts and biking last year, and it has an alarm feature where it vibrates to wake you up, but it does not have any of that "wake on light sleep" features as far as I know. In the data in tracks your REM, deep and light sleep, so it should be able to do all that. Now I want to see if there is some kind of additional program I can download for it so that it can do that. It would be a serious game changer.

Do you guys take creatine ? I dont get why 300gr can cost $30 and then you can also get a kilo for $8 and supposedly it's the same thing. Like wtf, really ? I read in a post here that should get the cheapest one cause they're all the same. How can this be ?

I've been waking up at 4:20am and each morning has gotten worse productivity-wise.
Well, tbf I haven't been getting a lot of sleep (5-7.5 hours each night).
Like, I practise piano and... Just no lol. I have almost no focus, or rather, my tiredness overshadows it.
Is this normal? Will I get accustomed to it over a long enough time (and obviously with enough sleep)?

(I don't take creatine)
I can only imagine that either:
-the quality is actually different
-The origin (plus hsipping?) might make a difference
-Simply because of the brand (status)?

I feel like @heavy_industry and @BizyDad can answer your answer very well, considering their "procedure" had turned me into the F*cking doomslayer.

(PS: update to my physique; I've installed Leage of Legends and didn't touch grass for the past 3 days and that made my body go back to normal! Hence why I can play piano again)

Yes, I have been taking it for like 6 years now.

Where on earth can you get 1kg for $8????? The price of creatine in Canada has literally 3x in the last year. The last time I ordered 1kg it was $30 Canadian. It is $90 right now.

From what I understand the best is Creapure, which is produced in Germany (their insane energy prices may be driving costs up). Almost all manufactures worth their salt source their creatine from there, and the back of it should say that it is Creapure.

Everybody has a natural wake-up time according to their chronotype. If you chronically wake up too early or too late, your body suffers.

This point in time coincides with the rising of the sun. This is the biological signal that it's time to wake up. Most human beings will naturally wake up between 5 and 9 AM.

How to find your natural wake up time:
  • stop using an alarm clock
  • remove caffeine and other nervous simulants
  • avoid eating, exercising or viewing blue light after the sun is down (hard to do in the winter)
  • sleep in a pitch black room
  • as soon as you wake up, get 5 minutes of direct sunlight
  • get as much light in the morning as possible

This will set your internal clock and you will start to wake up when you're supposed to. The adjustment will take around 2 weeks.

If you have responsibilities to fulfill in the morning and need to use an alarm clock, ~6AM is your best bet.

Some people do stuff because they enjoy doing it, not just for financial return. Not many on this forum, I imagine, at least not many who haven't already done the successful, fill the bank account, steps first, but there are loads out there. Would you avoid using open source software just because the people who wrote it did it for free?

School is making me CRAZY. I don't know, it just makes me sad and angry. Like, if I was legally able to quit school, I'd be on the verge right now, it's not however. Knowing that I have to (legally) keep going makes me sick. Depressed as hell? Either go to a F*cking psychatry (where school work still happens and they keep you in there most of the day, yay) or continue school.
I feel powerless, man I could cry.

Hope this isn't too much to vent on here...

There is a lesson here.

There will often be "reasons" in life to feel this way. School, kids, friends, mortgage payments, taxes, etc.

But we get to choose how we react.

Don't think about how long you have left to finish school. Think about what you need to do today to get to your goals.

School is going to be done before you know it. A focus on accomplishing goals should last you the rest of your life.

That creatine cost $7,4 without shipment for a whole kilo. Has thousands of sales and hundreds of positive comments but also a lot of negative ones as well. I was looking into how creatine is made and it doesn't seem to be such a complicated process, maybe they're just cutting costs (the final product might not be as great but also not so much worst, idk). Also most comments are actually positive.

I don't take creatine and would have to Google it to even really know what it is :playful: but a similar thing happens with Arrowroot powder, which is an ingredient I use in gluten-free baking.

You can get a 6-oz package for $8.99.
Or you can get a 16-oz package for $9.99
Or you can get a 5-lb (80-oz) package for $24.99
Or you can get a 25-lb box for $50.99 - which, at this price, that original 6-oz package would only cost $0.76.

It is all the same identical stuff. It's just arrowroot, ground up into powder. It's literally one ingredient.

The only difference seems to be the size of the package. Buy in bulk, get a better deal.

Try the app sleep cycle. They have a free version and you can test it. It has a 30 min window where the app will try to determine if you are in light sleep and then will ring. How does it work? By using the microphone from your phone, it detects how deep is your sleep .

One reason why I love subscribing to marketers' email lists is that you can see how their market responds...and see A LOT of the biz (or Slowlane and Sidewalk) mindsets in motion. As well as some biz tactics in action.

So when I opened copywriter Daniel Throssell's email yesterday, I rubbed my eyes:

- He announced he was BANNING folks from Third-World countries (unless they already bought from him)

This was because he saw from the marketing data that many Third-World folks didn't buy from him (made up only 5% of his revenue), just couldn't synch with his app, didn't even use English...and somehow kept sending him garbage mails.

- For the Third-World folks who STILL wanted to be on his list, they had to pay a $10 fee.

Just $10.

In today's email after when Daniel reported back on the reactions, l was even more shocked to see all the toxic, nonsensical drivel folks were giving Daniel.

Folks were cursing him for being racist and asking him to lower it down to $5.

My thoughts were...

HOW THE F*ck CAN'T YOU PAY $10 TO READ EMAILS FROM AN ESTABLISHED COPYWRITER?

Even with the lopsided USD exchange rate, you can just skip some meals or sell your unused items, or something to gather the cash. Or write some half-assed Upwork article or ecomm copy. Or get a J.O.B. Whatever.

And if you are really that desperate for cash...the copywriting gig can wait.
Your focus is on survival first. Any job will do to put food and lights up-- even plates-washing.

I think based on this incident, Daniel really did well in culling his email list as it really showed some of the horrors
of having unsuitable leads to sell to...

It's not for everyone.
But if you want a business that beats copywriting gurus at the selling game (read Throsell's emails to find out how he did it...), some tough measures are needed.

I daresay that it's a fantastic play of using the Commandment of Control to your advantage.

If you have your OWN email list-- you can do anything to improve your audience's quality, and yes-- sales.
And if it needs some extreme house-cleaning, why not?

Well, what are your goals that need the creatine?
Have you tracked your food intake through an app like cronometer and seen what % of creatine you're hitting already?

I have red meat/eggs/fish as the foundation of my diet and absolutely blow through my daily reccs for creatine/b vitamins/amino acids by hundreds of percent daily- so spending extra money for something I'm already getting seems superfluous.

In references to battery time being slower on iphone after update...

EDIT: I misread this, this is in reference to charging, not power down...

Anyway, still interesting info.

View: https://twitter.com/briandordevic/status/1633816155847639040?s=20

I noticed a similar, though slightly less woke, issue recently with Google Ads. If you've got a credit card in your Google ads account, Google has set up a Google pay account for that same login.

And in there, turned on by default, there is a setting to broadcast to "businesses" nearby that you have Google pay available for use.

---

In the same vein is Google Maps setting directions based on whichever it thinks will use the less gas.

That is a setting that you can turn off, in favor of whichever route will get you there faster.

If you turn it off, I've noticed it will still choose the route that is it thinks will use less gas as long as the timing is within 5ish minutes.

Creapure is marketing hype. Creatine monohydrate is more than fine, cheapest you can find.

@heavy_industry's response was great.

Wearables aren't going to fix this (but are useful to bring stuff to front of mind). I dont know how static your routine is but it sounds like you're waking mid cycle sometimes - which can be a problem if using alarms. We sleep in approx 1:30hr cycles and if woken in deep sleep can arise groggy and very tired! You know the feeling if you've overslept (more than 30 mins) napping.

- If possible try and sleep and wake within the same 30 mins each day. Else you're self inducing jet lag.
- Check your coffee/caffeine/stimulant/alcohol/weed use. Deep sleep/REM killers in all doses. Caffeine can have up to 8 hour half life in some.
- Are you on screens before bed? Bright lights after sunset?
- How's your bedroom temperature? Should be 18c/64f

You're not going to ever wake perfectly everyday but there are plenty of variables to play with. Even seemingly insignificant things... A single 8am coffee changes my sleep quality substantially.

People who park forwards into parking spots... WTH?
Because than you can load your stuff (wheather the wheels of your dirtbike, your bycycle or your food purchases or whatever...) into your car trunk lid from the back side, which is the only side, where is real enough place to do it without crawling through other cars, trees or whatever. ;)
