Like you do not want to watch any types of shows?

For me it's any type of network TV show from the alphabet networks. My IQ drops after watching anything produced for the American public. On Netflix or Apple TV, I prefer foreign films with subtitles.

If I had a friend that insulted my intelligence every single time I met them, would I continue to be their friend? This is how I feel for a majority of television and American-centric content. Superhero, cop/FBI shows, all completely unwatchable.

So are you saying you are anti-shows and movies?
Yep. That’s what I’m thinking. I kind of like @GPM s idea of just a dedicated theater room and only watch things on occasion like that.

His point about reading together is nearly as much doing something together as watching a show.

I just know too many people who waste hours every day watching mindless television. We typically watch a little something each night and I’m feeling more and more convicted of it.

Anyone use Verizon's 5G Ultrawide band home internet? I hate giving Comcast money every month. Worst company ever.

It will be even more special when you go get a stack of books at the library together.

That’s the same with movies and shows on streaming. I felt like I wasted 3 hours at Avatar. To me it was 180 minutes of look at what I can do with a lot of computers!

I watch a lot of YouTube these days. I find it so interesting how networks spends millions coming up with shows and then someone on YouTube films his own hobbies and gets 100M views. Who knew it would be so easy. Lol

Yesterday me and my dad watched a guy landscape a backyard. It was a 30 minute video time lapse with a voice over. I was thinking, there’s no way any executive would have greenlighted this video. But it had 30M views and the #1 show on TV gets 12M views.

being in the same room and reading separately is still a way to spend time together. It is just as relevant as both sitting and watching TV if you think about it.
Isn’t this the same as sitting next to each other and scrolling on the phone?

Yes, except reading is infinitely more productive and positive in my life vs. random shows and "scrolling on my phone".

I want to be reading, not on my phone, not on the TV.

I think it’s all in what you are choosing to read and watch. I could sit next to you while you read a fiction book and I’m on my phone watching a documentary.

I’m just trying to understand what the actual mechanism is for you, is it because a book is not powered on? Is it because it’s paper vs a kindle?

That is fine. I am saying for me personally I want to start reading more book. If we were hanging out together and you wanted to watch something on your phone while I read my book that would be awesome. If you wanted to sit on the couch with me and watch some random crap that neither of us really cared all that much about (what most programing is these days) that would not be good.

"Disorder" is a French indie film with a simple story but excellent experience. It's about an ex-soldier working as a bodyguard for the weekend, and he has PTSD. The movie induces paranoia in the audience as part of the storytelling process.

"The Conformist" is an Italian giallo film from the 70s. I've tried to get in to that genre with limited success. They always have epic names like The Red Queen Kills Seven Times or "Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key".

Happy New Year fastlane forum members and @MJ DeMarco

Thanks for creating a space where likeminded (but otherwise may be seen as oddball “unscripted ”) people can meet and become friends. I’m thankful for the people I met here that transcended the internet boundaries. And it would not have happened without you MJ. Thank you.

For me it’s a vessel of betterment, something that actually enriches my life… VS something to do “just because.”

It’s all in the intention. Mindless programming night after night is not something I will ever be glad I did.

So I guess it comes down to doing something I’ll thank myself for later instead. Will future me be happy about this or look at this as a place I copped out? A place I gave in to mediocrity.

Just had a "SUCS" event with SiteGround (i know it has a bad rep around here).

It's 6:00 AM on New Years Day, no way someone is available automatically to fix my domain pointing issues, right?

Immediately, I get a real, knowledgeable person that sits there and fixes it with me for 30 minutes, a problem I've been trying to fix for the past 2 days.

I didn't even think to click the support button until today out of my thoughts that it would take days to get a response and i'd be better off figuring it out myself.

A really good video on AI by Alex Hormozi

I thought this was a cool video too.

He made a good point about how it’s funny that the creative jobs got GOT first, unlike the predictions made by others.
The video makes me feel like I have a fire under my seat and that I’d better hurry if I want to be more than a UBI feeder in the future.

The more praise a book has, the worse it is.

Particularly if they're written by university professors.

The thing about academia is that it's a closed circle where they only cite each other. No matter how good a certain book is, the academic presses wouldn't dare touch it if it isn't up to par with their frankfurtian style of thinking and writing.

The intellectual entitlement and arrogance that comes from academia is really a turn-off for me.

It feels like America is self-destructing.

I feel the same way.

I'm generally a positive person and try to be a good upstanding citizen that respects the system. But, im afraid you are right. When I go out and about to walmart, drive on the freeways, look at the average person. I think to myself "WTF?, there is something really wrong with people and our country in general".

I was at the mall parking lot and this guy tried to run me over with his car for no reason. Reved the engine and threw the car at me.

You know things are gonna get bad when people have lost control of their amygdala's. People here are brainwashed and angry. It's crazy.

You can thank the sociopathic hedonists in charge of our system(and the world) who are addicted to power and profit. Who have corrupted our legal and education system. And have socially engineered insanity into our system.

A day off to think can help to clear things up, but sometimes a week off just puts you a week behind!

I think the "profound insights" come along as a result of your process, not an event (much like business success). It might feel like an instantaneous revelation, but it was probably years in the making.

Geoff K. Friedburg had world-changing, profound insights.

Never heard of Geoff?

Of course you haven't, Geoff's profound insights stayed locked in his head and he did nothing with them.

He's been a bus driver his entire life.

A lot of great ideas die in our heads, I'm certainly no exception.

I was reading a book about this topic a while ago by Elizabeth Gilbert. She describes how ideas are an energetic life-form looking for a human partner. If it thinks that you can do the job, it will pay you a visit. But, if it notices that you won't collaborate to the execution, it will find someone else. It will not wait for you forever.

Now I know that this is magical realism, but it always stuck with me in a way to remind me that if I don't take action, someone else will.
This is my major problem; my ideas hardly leave the planning stage. I always 'chicken out' at the end of the day. Fear of the unknown.

So I recently discovered the rapper "Tom MacDonald" a few days ago. I just threw on some more of his stuff. I am not a big rap guy but this is pretty good. It isn't just all "auto tuned mumble wrap" crap these days, the music is a bit more musical and heavier which I like.

Here are some lyrics that I really liked. "You worry about leaving a better planet for your kids, how about leaving better kids for our planet".

I don't agree with everything he is saying, but for the most part this is pretty spot on.

never forget that there is a neverending push to keep people fighting via neverending propaganda

carnivore vs vegan

v@xx vs ant-v@axx

men vs women

races vs other races

current thing vs anti current thing

Don't get sucked into this astro-turfed nonsense. George Carlin summed it up a few years decades ago (and England built a global empire on it).

Focus only on your mission and your people.
