I've been using AI assistant coding since 2022. Here's what 3 years taught me.

When GitHub Copilot dropped, everyone was skeptical. I used it daily from day one.

Now in 2026, people are panicking about AI workflows. Meanwhile, I have 3 years of reps.

The biggest lesson? You don't need a plan. You need specs.

No specs = no ship. Doesn't matter if you're vibe coding, using AI, or hiring someone.

14 years. 30M+ downloads. Same process every time:
- Specs first. What exactly are you building?
- Scope by layers. What's the MVP? What's later?
- Plan in steps. What's this week?
- Then code.

Skip specs and you'll rewrite everything twice. AI is fast. It's also fast at building the wrong thing.

I use OpenSpec for structure. OpenCode for execution. Keeps Cursor and Claude from drifting. Less fixing. More shipping.

Boring. But it ships.
