I was just reading this thread- https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/sidewalk/46500-no-motivation-i-just-cant-help-me-please.html
It really connected with me because I had the same feeling of disconnect with the fastlane. It's like you read TMF, and you feel like just because you see the path that you have already walked it. But you haven't. Inside you've changed, but to the rest of the world (who doesn't give a shit about your entrepreneurial interests) you are still the same person...
Man just a few months ago I was in the same exact position as this guy. As has already been said so many times on this forum, you need to start taking action. It doesn't need to be anything major, at least not at first. But once you start to make daily adjustments, success breeds success and soon it's like an insatiable hunger.
I've even had people start commenting to me about it- what I used to find satisfactory no longer provides the same feeling. Last week I got paid at my slowlane job. I used to get excited on payday, but this time when I got the check I almost felt a sense of disappointment in myself. All I had done is traded xx hours for $xxx. My pay stub even has YTD records, and I couldn't help but just look at all of the time I have put into doing something I don't want to do, and I have no control over. It's frustrating all right, but it's a motivating frustration that just makes me want to work harder... even after 8 hours of work and 6 hours of work, I still find myself up late at night with energy to put towards my online endeavors!
I still don't know what kind of online business I want to set up, but it hasn't stopped me from taking action and starting to earn money. In fact, by my estimates, my May earnings for my online income should be more than 1/5 of that of my slowlane job. 20% may not seem like much to someone watching from the sidewalk. But to me, that's huge. It may only be a dip into the triple digits, and not the five digits I desire, but it's still a big deal because it's money that I made for me, not just a job I slaved away at.
Now... my advice to the guy that posted the thread I linked to above, and anyone else that feels this way... TAKE ACTION! It's not original or unique advice, but that's because it's true and there's no reason to change what's been proven right!
If you are someone in the same boat as me, an 18 year old teenager who is still looking through the fields in search of a business that really grabs me, you should not let it be an excuse to not take action. There are two things that I have been doing in the mean time.
The first is writing online and running Google AdSense with my work. There is nothing more purely passive income than this. I wrote those articles a few months ago. I put a few hours in way back then. But I'm still earning today, tonight while I sleep, and tomorrow when I'm taking an exam on a subject I despise. The whole time, I'm earning passive income without putting more of my most valuable asset, time, into them! It feels great.
The other thing I have been doing is something I have read countless times on this forum. If you don't know what to do and have no experience, do this... browse Craigslist or your local flea markets. Buy something, and then try and flip it and resell it for a profit. I woke up early last Saturday and was going through some local flea markets. I bought some vintage video games. Some, I flipped and quadrupled my money on, others I lost money. Both experiences felt great. Overall, I ended up making money on that Saturday morning, and although the earnings aren't close to what I make at my job, they felt far more rewarding simply because of the experience that came along with them.
I hope my story and progress so far serves is motivational for those of who feel a bit lost in their search for the fastlane. You really just have to start doing. Who cares if you screw up and look like a shithead? Even when you fall flat on your face you're still moving forward. And if you don't start moving at all, you will never be able to embrace the fastlane lifestyle. This was my biggest mistake for so many months. I'd post on these forums, read books, but never have something tangible to show anybody else. Now, I can show off the money I earned and made for myself, even if it isn't as much as I want.
I'm nowhere near where I want to end up on the fastlane, but it feels awesome to finally know I'm on the right road. 😀
I've seen this posted on here before, but I'm gonna post again:
