Mike Rowe from the Discovery show "Dirty Jobs" gave a talk at TED that I found interesting.

His stance is that we've declared war on "work". Basically, we think that we have to follow our "passion" which is complete crap. He speaks about a pig farmer that just turned down an offer for $60mm for his farm; he went against the grain. The way we portray people who work everyday jobs on TV is laughable. We've turned "work" into a punchline. The media says that life would be better if you could work a little less, if you could retire earlier, etc.
Worth a watch.
