Grateful for failures I’ve recently experienced. They taught me more than any wins. I’ve made mistakes and learned 10x than I ever did from my wins.

Grateful for having the ability to see errors as learning and not a reflection of who I am.

This made me realize (tangent here) that the reason it’s so important to start a business is that you can’t fail without it. And that means you can’t learn. I don’t mean catastrophic failure, but mistakes that set you back and change how you do things.

It’s like swimming. You can watch others swim; you can read books on swimming but until you do your own backstroke you won’t know what it feels like to hit your hand hard against the side of the pool, or gobble up water when you do a flip, or run out of air when you could use more more time underwater to get further along from a pus against the wall after a flip. In short, you can’t ever win swim races without those experiences. Michael Phelps famously knew the exact number of strokes for the 50 m pool, he could and do swim with his eyes closed.

Same with business, those experiences are mental scars that make us far better for the future. But they cannot be learned, they must be experienced.

I’m grateful for the mistakes and for the realization that they are part of the process. That no process can ever be completed without them. And grateful for my mind to allow me to feel the way I do.
