OK, one thing happened to me and I'm thinking if how I acted was a bit arrogant or not.
One guy who has a fitness project online contacted me like half a year ago to see if I was any good in workout routine creation, fitness knowledge and if I would be interested in joining his project. We had a nice talk, I did a routine for them, it had a good review, he complimented my knowledge of the topic. But then he disappeared. So I figured I just move on and start my own blog (which I planned to do either way). They have a nice concept, pretty unique one too and have nice potential.
Now I get his message through Skype today asking for my opinion on his site is doing, how is it's sales page, content etc. I gave some candid comments. He is again saying that I know my stuff and that he would appreciate my input.
I find it strange he contacted me. So I said give me a stake in the project, 10 percent. I come in as marketing consultant and help you grow and go big. I'd also be helping out with content part.
In my opinion, that is a fair deal and I can add much to the project. He is offering me 30 percent on affiliate sales from whomever signs through me (but I don't find this option attractive).
They, or at least he, is afraid of giving away part of stake because the company will be big and it's late already (they worked at it for 18 months now). He knows I can help though and while doesn't want to give me 10 percent, he is willing to give me less (looks like it) since he asked me how much would I be willing to accept. He himself has 60 percent and two trainers have 20 percent stake apiece. Two other trainers work for affiliate commissions.
So I'm thinking of taking at least 5 percent of stake in that company. In return I'd help out a lot (marketing is important part).
I feel like I did the right thing and didn't overvalue myself (and I wont undervalue myself by giving good advice for free).
So what you think guys? What should I do? I should continue to pursue stake at the start up and opportunity? Was I arrogant? No?
Cheers
