Is anyone here following the nfl season?

What team are you cheering for? Id like to hear some opinions.

Kind of fun thought I had: in MJs GRRE , he said his 4th book is going to be about success stories, and how you can file yours.

I want to see who here will be in that book! It would be cool to see!

If you know of anyone who should or is being in it also please share your opinions/@ them!

Now I remember why I don't gamble regularly and make sports bets, as soon as I posted a bet on the DiamondBacks for the World Series, they lost 5 straight games.

Was looking grim on the Dbacks, back in wild card hunt full force! They been buzz sawing the Cubs for two series and now us Cubby fans sweating hard.

How do you measure the risk/fun measure?

I mean, basically anything fun could go wrong, just really anything.

And they tend to give you short term happiness.

How do you know when it’s a good time to back out of it?

Tubing - You can fly off and hurt yourself
Airplane - it can crash
Driving - it can crash
Playing a sport
Parachuting
Swimming

Basically, there are tons of things, of which I do a ton, but can end fatally, and I was wondering how do I know when the negatives out weigh the positives?

In short, think in bets.

How many people die in the swimming pool while being good swimmers and doing laps for fitness?

How many people die in adventure sports like wing suit jumping?

Make your own decisions accordingly…

I recall a while back YouTube was filled with young people hanging off tall buildings with no safety equipment. It was nuts how scary it was to just watch on a video! Let alone doing it… so many of them died… it’s incredibly sad, yet also predictable. There was zero margin for error.
Like this:
View: https://youtu.be/kpS7vhvkIQM?si=bm86cSihcfWrB-Kf

If any young person asked me for an opinion… I’d say never ever even contemplate something this dangerous. Life is short enough, why make it even shorter?!

Edit: apply the same logic to business. There are good bets and dumb bets. Good are where odds are disproportionally good to you when you win, but acceptably low impact on you if you lose. This asymmetric risk / reward is the best way I know how to make big $$…

Edit 2: examples
Good: read boons like MJs. You either lost 4-8 hours of your life for nothing or you become a millionaire fast. How’s that for asymmetry?

Bad: dump everything you have, including racking up debt, into crypto in hopes of hitting a 1,000x. Best case you make it rich fast, worse case it wipes you out. Since 99/100 times you can’t time the market, it’s 99% likely you are wiped out. How’s that for bad odds?!
You can relax in the comfort of your own home and suddenly a car could go through your window or a helicopter could crash into your home. The chances of that happening? Pretty low. But it can still happen.

If you're going to live your life entirely "safe", you're not going to be experiencing anything in life. Like @Antifragile think of it as bets and percentages. Decide on the chances of what you are comfortable with. If you go top-roping, you could have tied the rope wrong to the carabiner and fall. But that's a small chance, decide if that's okay with you.
Well, thank you guys, I was expecting 0 responses.

Just I was always a what if person when I was younger until summer break where I became a dare devil.

I rode jet skis, went tubing, rode motorcycles, and many more.

And when we were getting on the tube, that thought hit me: “what if I go flying and I break my arm or back, or worse neck?”

So I’ve been wondering that for a while.

I decided to go, I had the BEST time ever.

But then came the motorcycle, I had adrenaline running through me and then I lost control and had almost got my leg crushed and burnt.

It’s a very blurred line for me as I’m an over-thinker but out-going..

Well I'll take this as a compliment  Photography is a hobby of mine indeed.

What kind of camera and lens did you use? I have a Sony A7iii with a 2nd generation OSS 70-200 telephoto lens.

I would love to visit France one day. I taught myself some French to read the works of one of my favorite French philosophers; Gilles Deleuze.

The answer to this is to make more money so you can afford business class, first class, or private.

I refuse to fly anywhere packed in a box like a sardine. I pay the price, or I don't fly.
I have always considered commercial air travel almost completely intolerable.

First class helps, but it's still a bad experience.

It will ultimately have to be private.

I could afford business class but I would feel like I'm greatly overpaying for it because usually it costs something ridiculous, like at least 5x more. If it was double then that would be more sensible.

But that might just be another mental block to overcome as I love traveling and it would be nice to not feel like shit after a long flight (though I doubt there's any difference in humidity levels in business class or the general impact of sitting so much).

Private sounds beautiful but it scares me. Most accidents happen on private planes while commercial is over 200x safer.

"F*ck you money" story time!

I was in Costco and ran across a $900 vacuum, on sale for $700. I was like, WTF why is a vacuum $900? What's so great about it? What's the hook? The value?

So out of curiosity I bought it.

And the vacuum is pretty damn cool. We vacuumed our master bedroom with our normal central vac, and then proceeded to use this new vacuum. By the time we finished, you could have made yourself a full-length fur coat with all the dust and hair it picked up. I was actually pretty disgusting.

If anyone is curious, here's the vacuum...

Interesting, I'm seeing it on the website for $500, down from $700.

I am trying to learn the game of Go; however, online resources are scant and all the YouTube videos I find are people just explaining the rules.

Are there any Go players here who could give me some tips?

They must be doing something right, but a lot of their stuff just seems gimmicky to me.
I can't stand the airblade hand dryer. Its a grimy narrow opening that you put your clean hands in, then the air blowers turn on and push your hands into said grime.
I've been building a commercial cleaning business over the last year and have watched so, so many vacuum war comparison videos on YouTube that Google must think I'm some kind of Alpha soccer mum lol.
Dyson fares really badly and is despised by the guys that do repair videos but they always praise their marketing.
That being said, the Dyson V8 is great for offices that have a only a small area that needs to be lightly and quickly vacuumed and are in a pain in the a$$ spot to get to. If a staff member is a uni student football player then it's no issue, but someone not so strong can actually get wrist strain injuries from them though.

From reading his book I get the impression he's just obsessed with inventing and his company so I'm sure he's still there

He created his own engineering university for the company that's free to attend

He spent $1b or something stupid developing an insane electric car that made no commercial sense

I think it's a good example of a company that never went public so was able to do all of those sort of things that an owner would do but investors would never do
It's pretty impressive that he has done so well that even large companies like Samsung and LG are struggling to make a dent against them.

There was a documentary on UK television a few weeks back about vacuum cleaners, with the inventor of the one you've highlighted being interviewed: -

That's awesome. There are some good freediving schools in the area doing courses and training in deep cenotes.

How did/do you like it? I've found it okay for a few days but I would never be able to live there.

That must be super exciting to move to a new place and absolutely love its views. Then you can tell yourself "damn, I can see this every day; I'm not going back home" and it gets even better.
Where have you been in Dubai? I could live on the palm in a nice beachfront apartment. Downtown / Burj area would kill me instantly.

@MJ DeMarco, did you get the Einstein Relief from Bill? I checked out the link you shared, and that’s pretty awesome about how rare his art form is. It looks like Android Jones does some legit work, too. I see you have some of his pieces.

This is a Kershaw Chive knife that I engraved by hand (no lasers) and finished at the end of 2023. I started engraving in 2022 but haven't been able to devote much time to it. I am determined to devote more time to it this year.
Daym! Really nice one! Did you use black paint or etching?

Just finished making this concrete clock for my brother in law (he's a civil engineer). Designed a 2 piece mold and 3D printed it. I had to destroy the mold to get the concrete out so thankfully it came out good enough on the first try

No, I'm not selling them. This is the first and probably last I will make. The process could definitely be refined so that they were easier to make though.

Next year January Gran Canaria remotely?

✅ Spanish practice
✅ Siesta
✅ Fast internet
✅ 20-25 degrees Celsius everyday
✅ Parties on and off the island
✅ Surfing/ kite surfing

The only thing would possibly be the time difference with your business.

Heck, who knows we can make it into a summit as well.
I was already in the canaries

No joke. My fear of heights hits at completely random times which isn't great for climbing. When I lived in Colorado, we were doing an easy face with our kids. Something like 30 - 40 meters. Too much work to climb all the way, but it was an easy hike to the top and really fun to rappel back down.

Getting over the edge was a little awkward. You had to kind of jump over a lip to get both feet planted on the face, get in position and start the rappel. The first time I jumped - nothing happened. I was still standing on top confused for a couple of seconds before realizing my brain had completely freaked out and aborted. So weird. Bad brain.
I can already feel my limbs go numb just by the idea of having to jump over a lip to start a descent. Especially at that height...

My fear of heights usually gets a hold of me once I move quite slowly and my brain gets time to think. All of a sudden I'm too aware of what's beneath me and my hands get sweaty. Not ideal for climbing lol...

In Poland we have this cool gig called Setka Atlantic Challenge (SAC). You have to build your tiny yacht yourself according to plan (provided on website), then you take part in a race starting from Portugal across Atlantic Ocean sailing alone without asistance. The one who arrives first on the other side wins. As bonus as every yachtsman knows, the one who did the Atlantic is allowed to wear red trousers which on every Marina (at least in Europe) means mad respect :)
Link to the challenge, need to scroll down some for english
So you gotta be both a good boat builder AND really good at solo sailing :D Really impressive, ngl!

Great on you @ZackerySprague for being in the moment and the perspective.

You don't see any riots, homeless encampments, drug deals going down, poop on the sidewalk, graffiti, and any threat of getting mugged --- looks pretty awesome to me!
The building also has an indoor gym
