Some ideas in here aren't really "half-baked" but pretty good!

Except it would need to be called "five hundred-err" LOL. Engineers aren't cheap.

Nonetheless, like the idea.

Plastic is a huge problem and it is bankrolled by huge industries, oil namely.

But yes, the straw thing is ridiculous, there are much bigger plastic related issues to tackle. And then throw in that some of the solutions are worse than the so-called problem. Nonetheless, solutions to problems (real or not) will attract $$.
About the plastic problem , why not get a trash company that gets the plastic from trash sights and melts/burn it into raw materials to produce something <wild thoughts>

Another idea: A more affordable alternative to Pickfu.com.
These greedy F*cks are getting more and more expensive by jacking up their prices by leaps and bounds. Way overcharging, I say.

Their system runs on Amazon's mechanical turks (MTurk), where they get people to answer your surveys / polls. Kinda like a middle man. I feel someone who's versed in tech / coding can replicate these bloodsuckers.

Their greed is like MailCheat(Chimp), but on hypersteroids.

Got one

Wife was looking st these pillow cases infused with silver , apparently because that makes them antimicrobial you have to wash them "once every 5 years"

Copper alloys will do this as well

So take any existing product and integrate silver in it or brass and then your marketing is just vaguely FDA compliant "germ killing" or something , mark it up 400% and voila , new product

So how about , cutting boards? And tongs , lots of kitchen stuff. Steering wheel covers. Gloves (underwear) , clothes in general (although the pillow case people might have a patent for infusing silver into clothe)

Google auto complete shows sheets and towels already exist. It seems like something with enough traction so that you arent having to completely educate the market but still niche enough that if you could find a legitimate manufacturer it could be a unique selling proposition.

Target market: Africa.
Idea: Uber for Farms i.e rent agricultural farming machine + operator to harvest your produce in 1 day VS over 1 week or 2 weeks doing it manually.

They have this in india , I like it except the infratrucure to move the stuff doesnt exist and repossession for non payment would be tricky.

Easier I think to make headway with some local community and front them the money and equipment to grow something of your choice

I have a mini experiment in plastic-eating microbes in my office. Nothing to brag about yet, but I think it's the sort of thing that will solve our polymer problems, eventually. Well, and cause new problems, like plastic jars decomposing over time in the shower ;) Some of the microbes that can so far digest plastic were found as natural adaptations around a plastic recycling plant. Someone with a garage and a bent for biology can potentially solve big problems on the cheap. NOT that this is my actual business venture right now.

apparently in relation to prevent tau protein buildup and alzheimers , a high fish but not fish oil supplement diet is helpful

Has to do with how the oil can be used by the body , krill oil meets the criteria but oil from fish roe (eggs) would be even better. So it seems to me like the market has a hole in it (with premade science as marketing material) for a fish oil supplement based on fish egg oil.

Not really half baked , pretty straight forward but...not something I can execute on.

I don't know if these are half-baked ideas, but I figured I might as well share them here as I know I won't act on them :

- I love christmas, and setting up an artifical tree has always been a pain in the a$$. You already know the pop-up tree, the flat tree made from wood or carboard and the half-tree. But what if I wanted to have a full tree with a natural look? So I came up with a christmas tree that would unfold just like an umbrella. You slide the mechanism on the trunk of the tree and the branches unfold by themselves.

- Bluetooth speaker(s) / headphones / earbuds that allow you to listen to your music as if it was a vinyl, adding the famous crisp and popping sounds to current music.

- In France, there is a company called "Maisons du Monde" selling designer furnitures and home textiles across hundreds of stores in the country. The key component of their success is that they applied the rules of fast fashion (think H&M and Zara) to their market. The result : they release several collections per year, each one of them belonging to a different ambiance. What about making a subscription-based online shop allowing people to receive a different set of home textiles every 3-4 months?

- Do you know jewel candles? Why not switch it up? Imagine a candle in the shape of a character. As it is burning and the wax is melting, the skeleton of the character is slowly revealing itself. I call this idea "Spooky Candles". Perfect for Halloween, very seasonal.

- I guess you've already heard about MorningHead, this piece of plastic/cloth allowing you to wet your hair without taking a shower. I noticed cats and small dogs were very difficult to wash because they move a lot and you don't want to hurt them. Take the MorningHead, add some dry soap into the cloth. People just have to add water, and put the improved MorningHead on their pet.

- I have two cats and they always flip their bowls upside down. When I come home from work, I often find water all over the floor. I'm guessing it's also a problem with dogs, especially big ones. A simple solution would be to use something similar to lifting suckers (like the ones used in construction) to make the bowl stick to the floor.

- I'm pretty sure it's possible to build a Saas Geomarketing platform using Google Maps API and insitutional data about population, businesses and various informations.

- A 9gag-like website, but instead of sharing memes, users would share nuggets of knowledge they stumbled upon across different platforms (Twitter, Reddit, forums, ...). Given that almost every platform has a "Share" button, this would be quite easy to set up.

That's it for now :)

I think I have that in my garage right now? , what about a service business that does seasonal decorating? like you pick the decorations for the event online and someone comes over and confirms the idea then a bunch of dudes in a truck show up and just knock it out, they return and cleanup.

I was having trouble as always bathing my toddler and it got me thinking (one of those late night tossing in bed thinks) about this idea, you know those pods they have in scifi movies? , so its that but for cleaning a person, like a pod thats a human dishwasher, jets of 3 in 1 shampoo conditioner and body wash blast every nook and cranny, then it has a dry cycle maybe? , you'd probably want the face uncovered for liability reasons and I imagine your market is limited to the nuevo rich silicon valley type weirdos but I bet a mechanical engineer and a graphic designer could get a quarter million dollars in a no time at all on kickstarter with this (now whether or not its practical and would launch is another story, but it screams "viral")

You're on a whole other level of thinking! I agree with you, this is the kind of invention that would either be a huge success or an enormous miss. I think it all boils down to the "readiness" of the market.

I was on a cross-country roadtrip the entire month of May, traveling with my 67-year-old aunt, and came up with a couple half-baked ideas.

1. Personal cleansing wipe dispensers in public bathroom stalls. Whether plain flushable wipes, or specialty "feminine" and "male", individually wrapped and available with tap-to-pay from the phone.

Hell maybe even offer a paid toilet paper upgrade option in each stall. Some of the public bathrooms in this country have horrible excuses for toilet paper.

2. A safe and secure way for diabetics to dispose of their needles while traveling particularly, but at home as well. My aunt and her friends are nervous about people digging into trash cans and dumpsters looking for needles, so they look for safer options. The popular one of the moment is to put the needles into a small soda/water bottle and wrap that bottle with duct tape so that you can't see what's inside. Maybe go as far as having a disposal drop box at the pharmacy drive through so those don't even have to go into public dumpsters.

This is somewhat blasphemous, but I always come back to the sex toy industry.

Wait. Are we recycling plastic to make the sex toys? “Recycled sex toys” doesn’t have a good ring.. What’s the mission statement? “We do it again for you?”

And sooner or later the whales will have sex toys in their stomachs and wow won’t that be a bad day...

I should not push post.. lmao.

That's why the copy would read "Eco-Friendly Sex Toys" and a disclaimer at the bottom of the package would say "Recycled from random plastic stuff found at Jersey Shore"

I’m really curious how this would actually do in the marketplace. I think pornstars would go for it.. but.. ehhh.. I dunno dude... just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Hehehe

No. With the increased awareness of personalized items.. like glass stuff.. I can’t see this doing well.. but then again Walmart is selling sex toys now. Lol.

If this ever becomes real I’ll laugh AND cry and tell everyone “I could have been an investor in a whale of a product!”

Ok I’m stopping now. *giggling a LOT

Why not a kitchen sink with the center thing that will slide up and down depending if you want 1 large sink or 2 smaller sinks.

With so much internet addiction nowadays how about a website that helps with internet addiction. :smuggy:

How about a phone cover that makes your cell kind of like an old fashioned phone with a handle on it. The handle could even fold. Another could also have a piece on it where it could hook on to a lanyard or something that clicks on to a purse. I use headphones but it would make it easier for the teens to hold when talking for 9 hours a day.

My grandson (16) just came in and he said he likes the idea..... although we would need to buy him a purse for that version!

An interior design service that designs your apartment based on delivery furniture. Or sell preset packages.

Take over rooms in Small Motels. Essentially lease them for the Year. Get good sheets and furniture and pillows with fast WiFi and keypad based Entry. Get good pillows and shampoos. And rent them on your own website or AirBnB. Basically you level up a Motel without having to level up each room individually. You have a much easier check in process and can go straight to your room.

Ten minutes later and the straw is soggy, and the whole drinking experience is ruined.

I completely agree with you that the plastic straw ban is completely misguided and largely influenced by lobbying from kind-hearted folks like Ted Turner and George McKerrow Jr - who completely coincidentally had stake in the largest paper straw manufacturer in the US.

However, the forced increase in usage for paper straws is also spurring manufacturers to find ways to mitigate the poor rigidity and jump ahead of the pack in this massive new growth sector.

We're still largely at the beginning of this resurgence in paper straws, and already companies like OK Straw have developed products that can hold up to 5 hours in liquid.

The trend of banning plastic straws is not going to end any time soon, and the subsequent investment in paper alternatives will drive further cost-cutting and innovation in the next decade.

Reusable metal straws that are really easy to clean.
.

And incredibly expensive and theft prone. I've seen quotations averaging in the .50-70c per unit, compared to less than a cent for plastic, and around 0.6-3 cents for paper.

Any idea how much it costs to make the cup with a built-in straw?

What kind of additives do they need to add to Paper Straws to get them stiff?

They don’t seem very healthy. I’d much rather use a metal straw.
