Hello everyone,
My name is DK Kang and I’m based in Texas.
I have read The Millionaire Fastlane, Unscripted, and The Great Rat Race Escape and I decided to join the forum.
My background is a mix of health, discipline, and personal development.
I’ve spent 18+ years as a licensed massage therapist specializing in pain management and mobility. I’m also a 4th-degree black belt, so discipline and mindset have always been a big part of my life.
But the last few years forced me to rethink everything.
In 2024 my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, and shortly after that I lost my job after asking for schedule flexibility so I could support her through treatment. We went almost a full year without income and ended up about $60K in debt from medical and living expenses.
This forced me to rethink everything: how I earn, how I create value, and how I build something that isn’t dependent on a job.
That’s when I decided to start building something of my own.
One of those projects is a kimchi business, which might seem random at first, but there’s a deeper story behind it.
I started making my own kimchi for a few reasons:
First, most store-bought kimchi comes in plastic containers. Fermented foods are acidic, and I didn’t like the idea of kimchi sitting in plastic and potentially absorbing microplastics. So I learned my mom's recipe and began storing my kimchi in glass jars instead.
Second, many commercial brands include ingredients I didn’t want to eat. Things like MSG, fish sauce, high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, and preservatives. I wanted a vegan, clean, simple ingredients, and better flavor, so I started making it myself using whole ingredients.
The third reason is personal.
During my wife’s cancer journey I started learning much more about nutrition, inflammation, and what supports the body’s ability to heal. There’s growing research around fermented foods and their impact on gut health and immune support. That pushed me even further toward making clean, fermented foods we could trust.
What started as something for our household slowly turned into something bigger and I want to use the CENTS framework to get my kimchi into grocery stores but I don't know where to begin.
I also wrote a book on mindset and resilience based on lessons from adversity, discipline, and personal growth.
My goal is simple:
Build businesses that create value, educate people, and help bring better food to the market.
Learn from people and give to people who are building businesses that help others.
Looking forward to learning from everyone here and contributing where I can.
Thank you,
DK
