Hey everybody!
This first post in this progress thread won't be super exciting, as I'm currently in the planning phase of a series of novels and there's not much to write about that.
I decided a while ago to write a novel. I know, I know, who doesn't right? That's one of the main reasons I switched between wanting to write a novel, and deciding not to. The Entry aspect of CENTS. It's so F*cking easy to write and publish a novel that I doubted this could ever be Fastlane.
I started writing a book and had around 320 pages, before I realized that I had absolutely no story there. So I scratched that book (trust me, the decision wasn't as easy as it sounds now). I wasn't so sure about writing another book.
But some ideas in my mind felt too interesting to not make something with it and the more I thought about them, the more ideas for a completely different story emerged. The first book I tried to write was more in the thriller genre. But I was always a fan of fantasy stories. Of books like the Harry Potter books, shows like Game of Thrones (haven't read the books yet). Stories that have their own world that feels like you are in that world with the characters, while reading or watching.
In my mind I started to create such a story and such a story world. And I realized, even if no one would read or like this story, I think I would. So I thought, F*ck it, I want to give it a try. If this has value to me, maybe it has for someone else as well.
Maybe I'll change my mind on it later on, maybe I won't. But for now let's see if it makes CENTS.
Control: when self-published there's a lot of control over the product.
Entry: that's the weakest point. It may not be too easy to actually finish writing a book, but publishing one is not that hard.
Need: I think there's always a need for good and entertaining stories.
Time: when it's finished and published it can earn money independent of my time.
Scale: this one is a bit tricky. As a product both physical as well as digital it can scale a lot. But I'd write it in my native language which is german. So as long as I don't get it translated the scalability is limited to german speaking readers.
Alright. Let's finish this post with the current status.
Current phase: planning the first book and the overall story
