Hi to everyone reading this and the future posts I'll be making.
To start off, I'll be making posts of my progress once a week ( Sunday ).
As I said in my last post, I've started this year off with a business idea I've had in my mind for a long time now, but due to having stupid & unsupported beliefs about it, I never executed on it.
Well, I've started executing on it since 2nd of January, 2026 and will continue to do so until I make it work.
First off, I've rated it against the CENTS model, and it violates "E" ( entry ).
And I agree with it that in that aspect of it, but I think what makes it nuanced is the skill.
Yes, almost anyone can learn retention as a specialized skill ( will take significantly more time then people anticipate ), but I am almost certain that 50-70% of the "existing" freelancers/agencies are not good enough and what I mean by this is that most of them copy/paste email copy/designs, no A/B tests, no iterations upon feedback, no significant proven metrics as proof that they know theur stuff, metrics they've increased/reduced, they have high churn and similar stuff.
Maybe I am biased, and I'd like to hear what you guys think, but this is what I've noticed during my research and my experience, and I think most would agree with this as there's just too many people pursuing agency/digital marketing services as a business when they have no place to do that ( meaning no prior experience at all, and they just go in and start a "me too" type business and spam the same cold emails, cold calls whatever )
Don't get me wrong, I've been guilty of some of the stuff listed above when I was younger, but I have had a ton of experience in the retention/email world since I was 15-16 and generated well over $5M via emails for the clients I worked with inside the ecommerce space.
So there's a couple of reasons why I got into it aside from it matching my skills, my liking for the business model, here's just a few :
1. There's demand for great service providers
2. There's existing businesses providing this service ( granted there's like "1,400+" partners/agencies listed on email software site's directories, but as I said, fairly certain out of the 1,400, only the top 10-20% is worth their salt *and a small caveat, I personally know two agencies in the top 20 and they do not provide as great of a service as one would imagine*
3. I believe based on the evidence, experience and knowledge that I have that I can for starters at the very least provide a service with great results and I am certain as time goes on I'll be able to add many more value skews
4. Most are focused on scaling/sales and not a ton of time is spent on service delivery, which is something I want to do because I believe trough trial & error the service can become very productized and scaleable while achieving results, productocracy and making it sticky ( low churn ), and I am of the belief if I can achieve that goal on the servicr delivery, then it can and will be a very very good fastlane business, if not and if I get capped and diminishing returns from additional scaling, I'd focus on a different strategy to grow out of the agency ( hate that word btw) but that's a topic for another day since I first need to be in a position experience, skills, capital and knowledge wise to go into that side of business.
What I am working on since January is solving my first somewhat "constraint" which is client acquisition so that I can find 3-5 QUALIFIED clients that I can provide the service for and then the only thing I'd focus on once I get those clients is absolutely going to be focusing my time, and all that cashflow on making the service delivery top notch with whatever means neccessary and I reckon that will allow a couple things :
1. Drastically reduce client churn
2. Better results from a systematised service
3. Scaling
4. Predictable gross margins that will allow for scale
As far as metrics goes :
- I have 3 calls booked for the next week so that I can first see if they even qualify because I can't know for certain just based on my research before doing outreach
- If they do qualify, that's great and will continue the "sales cycle", if not I'll do whatever I can to derive as much insight on their problems, experiences, what they've tried or not and that will be useful down the line
Update coming next sunday, as I said, will be focusing on client acquisition for the time being until I get 3-5 clients.
Thanks for reading.
