They are on my "disliked" list only second behind politicians.

I own a private infrared sauna, if you have the space in your home, they are nice investments. You can get them for a few thousand dollars, you only need to upgrade your electrical connection to a bigger voltage. It's also a great time to schedule "me time" whether it be meditation, reading, or quiet time.

It will be an addition I will add when I get my house, my mate does the electrical for the local health club I visited - he has also done a bit of work for a guy who makes shipping containers with these and other items and sells them - might be a need for some one out there to start and work in this space.

Air quality in my city today...

aqi.png

This is top10 worst air quality GLOBALLY. If my city were listed in the global rankings, it would be #5:

aqi2.png

The level of PM2.5 concentration is currently 18.6 times above the WHO annual air quality guideline value. It's so bad that you should wear a mask outdoors, avoid any exercise outdoors, keep your windows closed and run an air purifier (I bought two recently).

This is yet another reason why I hate winter.

You aren't on the Canary Islands anymore ? Good thing about living in the middle of nowhere in Argentina, we have good air and sunshine all year lol. Even winters are often hot here.

Nope returned before the holidays.

Argentina sounds like a paradise for wilderness lovers. I'd definitely enjoy wide open spaces and fresh air :)

Geez, Austin was crowded when I considered it 15 years ago, can't imagine the traffic today. Looks like people are fleeing the rust belt, and why not. I'm sure today's remote working trend ain't going to help!

Orlando is curious, anyone from there care to comment? Wouldn't have thought a humid swamp would appeal to people.

Copywriters on the forum, what is generally the path you take/have taken with your skills?

1. Learn copywriting from classic books.
2. Write copy for clients.
3. Write copy for your own products?

How do you know when to transition to #2? How do you know your copy is any good and valuable for your clients? Where does traffic generation fit into it when you transition to #3?

I've studied various copywriting resources over the years but never really found much use for it. My big problem is getting traffic. I feel like once you get traffic, you don't have to be that great of a copywriter to make it work. But excellent copy means nothing if nobody ever sees it.

Oops, just saw the other part of the question. I never knew my copy was good enough for clients. Someone told me that I should write copy based on my past experience writing books and knowledge of psychology.

I am 100% certain that your writing skills are good enough right now to write copy that people will pay for.

Can't really see a strong common theme between the population growth of the top 5 cities, but the bottom 5 I know are not very safe, and are getting worse.

Well I never was a big fan of MailCheat(Chimp), however when Intuit acquired them you knew it was the beginning of the end. And it didn't take long, a few months later they are raising their prices . . . can't make that big acquisition without squeezing the towel for every dime of profit!

Alternative service recommendations?

MailCheat(Chimp) sucked a few years ago already. Can't imagine how much it has to suck today.

Try ConvertKit.

I also heard good things about MailerLite (never tested it).

I posted a 4 figure project to Upwork a few days ago. Nothing complex, but something I need done and don't have the time to do myself.

40+ bid proposals later I can say 97% of freelancers have no idea how to sell themselves. It's just "I this, I that, I am awesome, I know everything, I, I, I ..." and a bunch of canned responses without much regard to what the client actually needs and how they can help solve the client's needs.

If you have the knowledge, a good work ethic, and need to start earning money, learn to look at the project from the client's point of view and provide value in your initial bid. It doesn't take much to stand out and a lot of good info has been posted at the forum in the past, for example, NOTABLE! - SIDE HUSTLE - Lex DeVille's 2019 Step-By-Step Upwork Tutorial for Brokeass Bootstrap Beginners Who Need Cash Now! by @Lex DeVille

Thanks, but in the end, I hired someone (the one in 40+ who actually read the project description in detail, gave it some thought, and provided actionable feedback/suggestions on what he has and will do to get the work done).

Was frustrating to read all the bids though and it reminded me of the Upwork topics on this forum.

Lately I've been having excruciating gastric pains and nausea that couldn't be addressed in 2 ER visits.

So today I tried booking a GI doctor's appointment. However, I kept getting either automated responses that take way too long or the one time I get through to a person, the earliest appointment is next month (too late).

Seems all the local doctors have the same phone numbers so I can't call most of them directly.

In my searching, I found a website/app (ZocDoc) that easily helped me find a specialist that can help me today. It was easy to look through the doctors, their titles, reviews, earliest appointments, etc.

I bring it up because it really reminded me of the principles of this forum. This business presented positive value skew by addressing the problem of poor customer service.

One would think answering the phone well would be a given for these doctor's offices but it's not. And when I'm in really bad pain, every minute of frustration is tenfold.

But really cool to see this sort of problem addressed.

Do you think this is new or has the world been this way for a long, long time?

Authority has been our go to for answers for all of mankind's history. Being an expert gives you authority over a subject. News outlets (in this case) use this authority to grab eyeballs.

I have no data to back this up, but it's probably been this way for a long, long time. I'd say it's because of a mix of 3 elements:

1) I've been paying more attention to the phenomenon in recent years.
2) News outlets realized they can call an expert for instant credibility.
3) I wasn't paying attention to the way words were being used.

I like the nugget from Dan Gallappo:
