Obviously I need to do better.

I can empathize with this.I also believe it's a fair balance and that cynicism is needed.

I feel like I'm getting less cynical the older I get but that might just be a false perception of the self.

However, back when I was in school I was extremely cynical. My peers disgusted me and I rebelled against any and all authorities. People would often tell me that I was "serious", aloof, and that I should "stop thinking about life in that way". Throughout all of this, I still managed to not be considered an outcast and was generally liked.

Fast forward to now, my girlfriend of 3 years is my complete opposite. Up until recently (before some tragic events unfolded) she was quite literally seeing the world through rose colored glasses. It was actually fascinating how differently we perceived everything.

I am always reading between the lines, suspicious of ulterior motives, and usually notice the "bad" about a person or a situation first. She, on the other hand, would usually see the good first and often rationalized how to excuse someone's behavior. This has lead to a lot of "I told you so!" moments.

I'm happy to report that things have been balancing themselves over time for both of us.

But now, I'm curious: What were you like in your childhood and adolescence?

So where I live, for 30$ a month you get to work out as much as you like. You even get to go into the sauna bathing room and steam room. I decided to bring a childhood buddy of mine, who's pretty scripted and jaded by his environment, to the sauna room to see how good it'll make him feel. I really love this guy and want to see things better for him. I made sure to cover the guest fees to make it easy for him. Two days in a row now.
