Let's break this nightmare down!

1. &Pizza box... writing loads of javascript creates an inexplicable hunger that can only be satiated with the crusty goodness of &Pizza.

2. Monsters, Iced Expressors, and other caffeine-based beverages. I am literally a human compiler that turns caffeine into software.

3. Unscripted physical copy. When I feel really down and hopeless, I have selected pages that I turn to to help me slap myself back into rational thinking.

4. VS Code and StackOverflow. The bane of my existence and the ticket to freedom. This is where the magic (presumably) happens. On this rare occurence my VS Code screen isn't riddled with red underlines.

5. Ultra shitty keyboard. I like my cheap plastic keyboard. It's loud and the sound of the keys clicking keeps me going.

So yea, one man's heaven, most men's hellscape. But the organization of my environment is irrelevant. All that matters is those lines of code.

- Cheers

Flippin Hilarious!!! Thanks for the great post.

Great minds think alike. Rum and Coke with some Cool Ranch Doritos and I can go for days. Pizza - burned out on that long ago, although it is well known for its code enhancing therapeutic qualities.

Let's break this nightmare down!

If there was an award category for "Oh, it's something", you'd win.

Well done.
My chair sucks. Hurts my legs.

What should I get?

Get ... to yoga.

And add variation of a stand up desk option so you can switch around.

Coming from an organized person...meaning...I love it!

“Organized people look away”...hilarious. And “Oh it’s something” meaning, how could I possibly describe my desk. Only by your pic . I couldn’t do it, that’s why I said well done.

London may not have the seaside, mountains, or even the sun sometimes.

But it does do a sweet line in fancy-a$$ places you can go work.

In contrast, my "desk" at home is a literal plank of wood to hold my laptop or papers, used primarily in bed. I look something like this:

Except I roll all the bedding up & treat the mattress like tatami mat, so I look more like this:

Or this:

Or a few other random positions I find myself curled up in.

Yes, I do have back issues, why do you ask?

Thanks!

I just recently discovered the world of audiobooks, so my paperback collection is, unfortunately, collecting dust =(
I've been on audiobooks for a few years, typically if I like a book on audible, I buy the hard copy after, for my bookshelf. No purpose unless I was too reference them, but I don't. I still enjoy it though.

This is exactly.. how I would have imaged kak's desk to look like. Exactly.

Mindset matters. That post has me re-thinking my own set up.

We outfitted our office warehouse with whatever the university surplus had. Not so pretty. However, it was very affordable.

I feel like my thoughts would be grander sitting in Kak's desk.

Hahaha, agreed, that’s so true.

But a wiseman once said:

It’s not the size of the desk that counts, but the action behind it...and @Kak is rocking both!!!

You might think so.

I had an office like that a couple of times actually. They sure look nice. But for some reason, I've never found a primo leather chair that was comfortable which you could sink back into. Those executive chairs are always straight-backed and hard as a rock. They DO keep you alert - if that's the way you like to work. I prefer to think in "comfort." I know a lot of people that swear by the ergonomic contoured mesh-back chairs as well.

My new set up is a super plush microfiber COMFORTABLE chair - and a fan circulating air and drowning out background noise - and an L shaped desk that can easily handle multi-tasking.

Sometimes I turn on my Bluetooth speakers with some classical music to really help me concentrate. A desk should be a work center - as many pictured here are.

I remember when I was in the military, we had WOODEN (read: NO padding) swivel chairs on casters. Wouldn't want to take a chance on someone getting comfortable - no Sir!

Keep looking for what really works best - not what looks good. Rarely are they the same thing.

Workbench I made by re-purposing my bed frame and bolting on some 4x6". 3D printer, soldering, bench-top power supply, and of course my laptop. Bachelor pad and nerd paradise!! Ground zero for independent wealth or bust. View attachment 24045

When the world ends because everyone gets nuked all at once, 300 years from now, the only things that will still be around are cockroaches and that table.

Don't kid yourself @Kak, your desk weights 946lbs, 40 of that varnish. Yours will still be around as well.
