The slowlane lament

I yearn to make some money, I dream of making good
But I'm working for the boss man who only wants my blood.
A slave to weekly working for a lifetime and a day
No thanks, no hope, no freedom, and all for little pay.

There must be more than paying bills until the day I die
and life is surely more than this, it is the reason why
I dream one day retiring, be free and feel alive
But at present rate of earning that's when I'm eighty five.

To think in early childhood my life was full of dreams,
but now life's regimented, or that's the way it seems.
I wake, I eat, I travel, I work and so return
Repeating five in seven, then spend all that I earn.

Thus keeps me to the grindstone, forever and a day
stopping me from thinking "is there some other way?"
A chance to break these fetters, a way to set me free
Remove these blinkers off me so I can clearly see

There's more to simply working, for the one they call the man
And freedom is just waiting for those who say "I can"
It's time to lose the shackles, it's time to now break free
And if it's going to happen, it all comes down to ME.

Especially for @Andy Black - I darkened the page :somber:

An ode to entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship isn't easy, the journey can be tough
you're always problem solving, basic learning's not enough
Since as your business' growing, you need to grow as well
cos things don't happen easily, at times it can be hell.

But first you have to do it, take action, not just dream
Since there's no easy shortcut, things aren't all what they seem
because all success is failure, adjust and fail again
a constant battle learning, and overcoming pain.

Like Moses in the desert, commit and carry on,
just focus on solutions, and make that number one.
Overnight success takes ages, it can be years and years
of focusing on answers through all that sweat and tears.

It's a constant learning cycle of adjustment, act and fail.
To quote MJ DeMarco it's detachment, Time and Scale,
Control and ease of Entry, and don't forget the Need.
And if your still debating, just buy the book and read.

Give people what they're wanting, stop chasing after cash
and remember it's more a marathon than a simple nine yard dash.
Just create some added value, and people will then pay,
and ask yourself the question "what do I do today?".

Love it. Rep+ again.

For those wondering, "Darken the page" is a quote from Gary Halbert.

Thank you MJ, I can't say I really know anything about poetry either (I like Dr Seuss and Pam Ayres and that's my limit) , but I love how writers play with words and I'm very pleased with my attempt, I enjoyed writing them.

Now re-reading with Pam Ayres 'voice' in mind. Sounds good :smile2:

It has been a while since I tried a rhyme, the storms that hit the UK a few weeks back led to this:

This Dog, gone, storm.

As storms hit the UK there’s no time to baulk,
for my spaniel’s all bouncy. It’s time for his walk.
His fur is a flapping in the wind and the rain
as he changes through field-mud, again, and again.
With a wet wind that’s howling I’m ready for sun.
The dog in his element is just having fun.
The storm’s getting stronger and braches all fall,
so to get us to shelter my dog I must call.
He’d rather run freely so can’t see the need,
but to get us home safely I slip on his lead.
As the wind gets more forceful, the lead I hold tight,
since I now have a dog who thinks he’s a kite.

A thread by @MTF has encouraged me to have a go at writing a newsletter
The following poem is a result of that newsletter attempt.

If you're not actively involved in getting what you want, you don't really want it

If your dream is stagnant, and left to gather dust
It’s time for self assessment, it really is a must.
Do you really want it, or is it just a whim?
Cos if no actions taken, the chances are quite slim
the want's not really wanted, it’s fancy and no more,
and it’s madness simply doing what you’ve done before
expecting something different, a result that’s not the same,
since life is just not like that, it doesn’t play that game.
You really have two options to turn this to a win;
the first is fairly drastic, and that is to give in,
the second involves more effort, your very heart and soul
to get the want you wanted, and help achieve your goal.
Do what’s ever necessary, remove what’s in the way.
If you know you need to do it, then do it anyway.
