Hey all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this or ask these questions so bear with me here;
So my girlfriend is from Peru and on her last visit here the other week she was buying an iphone to sell back at home to a friend of hers to recoup the cost of the flight ticket because I guess iphones and tech of all kinds are F*** all expensive there, in fact one of the most expensive places in the world to purchase tech is in Peru. When she told me that she was going to essentially almost double that money back from re-selling and her friend was STILL gettting a solid homie hookup deal I didn't believe her until lo-and behold, I looked at pricing and it's about 60-120% more depending on what kind of tech you sell there. Not just Iphones, but 500 dollar ish labtops are going for 1200 ish and so on and so forth.
This got me thinking about some potential ideas regarding international business; specifically vending to latin america. From some surface level research it seems one of the reasons this is is because of high duty and import tax on these items and poor telecomunications infrastructure.
Aside from the taxes, what advice do you fine people here have on doing international trade specifically in Peru and other places in latin america? is there a way to get around the taxes and import duties? what would I have to do to become a successful international vender and offer tech at lower prices to solve the potential customers problems but still make decent profit on my end? does anyone have any experience doing something like this or vending internationally in general as a side hustle that could pass down a nugget of knowledge or two? I'm not very well versed in this topic and it would be cool to find a mentor or someone who has some wisdom to pass down in this area as I see a real opportunity here that doesn't get a lot of publicity.
Thanks in advance.
