Well I do take offence. Not sure why you are trying to attack me for no reason. Be more positive and positive things might happen for you.
I didn't mean that as an attack, do apologize. I realize it came off more brash than I intended.

Was more a point that I don't see how your expectations added anything to the conversation. I'm sure that you have an opinion on a way to improve, based on the fact that you think GravyBoat has good ideas, and I wanted to hear more.

I hear what your saying. OP has made a pretty lofty claim of the fact he is going to make a million dollars in one year. I cannot pretend to give advise on how to achieve this, but I do want to see him reach his goal..

My two cents however: There are many techniques that people have mentioned already such as outsourcing his work which will help him increase his likelyhood of accelerating his earnings. If I were in his shoes I would focus on scale. It's brilliant that he is working for larger clients now, but this seems like a career gaining traction instead of a money system, and I doubt he will make $1m in a year this way. He has obviously done well to sell his skills to larger clients, I would take that skill and approach 100+ big clients, taking on as much work as possible and then outsource to the best people I can find.

OF COURSE.. this advise is great to write but much harder in reality to carry out. Food for thought, but if he can do this I don't doubt a million will be made. I still think a year is unlikely, but perhaps two or more is possible using this method.

Why not write a 100-page ebook on "How to Make $4000 a Month Freelancing" and sell it?

You're making more than 90% of the freelance writers out there. Most of the ones I know are making like $400 a month and consider that good money.

This is interesting feedback. Though, one CAN scale income for personal services.

Allen Weiss makes over $1M/year on management consulting services.
Dan Kennedy makes way over $1M/year on copywriting services.

Both of them use those earnings to fuel other businesses/investments.

What are your thoughts on this approach? Is this the same as what Jake is doing, or different? Interested in your feedback.

Yeah, at the speed that the OP is getting clients, he's really grinding it. Later on after the ebook, create a team or writers and he can focus on looking for clients, I think he is also really good at it.

Just my 2 cents. :) and congrats on the progress @Jakeeck

I guess the goal is to make a million, so although his time is tied into the strategy, it could work, although he would have to be a top player in his field to do so I imagine. Either way I'm impressed by the current progress, keep it up Jake!

Made $624 since my last update (7 days ago).. I have traveled back home for the holidays and haven't spent the same amount of time working. Anyways that big casino client tells me he's got a long list of orders yet to come, so that relieves some of my worry about straight up losing clients.

I'm still a little lost on deciding what my long-term plan is going to be. I kind of enjoy writing and my pay keeps climbing, so part of me wants to see how far I can take that, but I also want to start making passive income. The problem for me with that is I can't pull the trigger on one thing I really can see myself doing long-term. I'll just have to do some soul-searching to figure it out.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday :)

If you have mastered the art of getting clients and writing for them then it's time to also find people like you and teach them how you do it. Also recruit some of them who are more like to be workers. Get them to do the writing for you. Use your time more productively on getting clients.

Yeah, the income dip over the holidays is a sure sign that time and money are not yet divorced (still in holy matrimony? :p )

You know, if he likes the writing, is clearly good at it and gets results, then the fastlane strategy should be built around this. What are some other streams? There are possible ebook opportunities (sharing copywriting tricks, his story here, etc), an agency model (he sells work and outsources it), possibly consulting (advising companies on current copywriting), a training/courses play (ebooks or formal to companies in a workshop format), maybe developing a product at the low end helping smaller businesses with copy editing/writing service (outsourced), while he does the higher value work because he enjoys it. What are some adjacent services customers are asking for? Can you provide or outsource?

I see it as essentially a mix of products built off the main service, while he continues to provide high-value to clients willing to pay him his hourly rate. Sure, he's still "working", but the value of his time is far higher, and he can still be generating income from other related streams. Eventually he can pick and choose which jobs he wants to do, and how much he wants to charge. Is it snazzy and fast like flipping a bunch of stuff? No, but slow and steady does tend to win the race eventually.

I will have to move out eventually but for now i like saving money and each month feeling that i can invest those!

EDIT : Im 24 years old, and my parents thinks its a bless that i moved home. Im serious :)

I'll be honest. I'm struggling with depression.

I'll update when my head is straight.

Thanks to all who have been following me.

It's very big of you to admit it.

I suffered entrepreneur's depression last year. It was a hard time, and I couldn't even admit it until several months after recovery.

Let us know how we can help. It was when I found this forum that I broke out of it.

Here's an idea, feel free to use anything that you like. More than anything, I hope it gets your gears grinding. Honestly, I don't even know WHAT it is that you write, I'm going to assume it's only Copy. Adapt what may be useful. Get your brain thinking in possibilities again.

First, use your own knowledge of the writing market. I'll assume other writers need help, and I'll assume that you understand the game.

Are the writers looking to:

- Improve their writing skills?
- Get knowledge on making money online using writing? (Landing jobs, starting blogs etc.)
- Want to get started/Total Newbs?
- Willing to pay for help?
- All of the above?

Don't overthink this part, but if you can MORE OR LESS ascertain that people need help with something you can help them with - pick your angle and start a website.

Your angle can be that you're actually a writer who GETS PAID FOR HIS WORK. You live this instead of re-hashing shit you've read.

Domain ideas:
www.getpaidtowrite.com
www.getpaidwriting.com
www.pentoprofit.com (This Domain Is Currently Free)

Start by blogging out quality content regarding the profession - WHILE DOING THE GIG ON THE SIDE. Your goal is to know everything I don't. Blog regularly at optimal times (info regarding this all over the internet). Start driving traffic. Posting articles to different social media platforms. Guest posting, AS WELL AS getting others to post on your page, even if it means paying them a bit. When traffic starts coming in, you've gotta build that email list. To build an email list, offer something that is highly valuable, no bs, and FREE, in exchange for their email address.

Some ideas for products you can create

- 'The 3 (or whatever number) Step Guide To Landing Your First Paid Writing Gig Within A Week' -- FREE REPORT (Can be used to capture Emails)
- 'The Copywriter's Cheat Sheet - 15 Rules for Instantly DOUBLING your conversion rate.' (Same Here)

Now that you have an email list, you send them mail regularly, full of good content. They must always be getting value bombs. Email lists AND PEOPLE WHO TRUST YOU are what sells. Don't screw these people, make their purchase worth it. Now, to sell, build a funnel. Don't just sell single products. Do some research into information product sales funnels if you don't know what they are.

Here are some 'Welcome Mat' offers, you don't make much money on these, but these help establish:

1) Your Authority
2) Their Trust

Some Ideas:

- The Step-By-Step Guide To Starting Your Freelance Copywriting Career TODAY. - For The Price of Coffee (or something less cheesy and overused)
- The Dud Filter - A Framework for Testing Your Copy to Virtually Guarantee Conversion.

Then move to the bigger ticket products. Something like:

- 'How to Land Big Gigs with the Big Fish -- For Big Profits.' - The Master Course (Don't do this if you don't actually have an honest, actionable answer to this problem.)
etc etc.

How can you fastlane a blog? Simple. What do all writers want? Readers. If you can build a trustworthy platform that gets a large number of readers every month, you could definitely approach other writers and have them write for you. Verify their expertise (again, be fair, don't F*ck your customer) and allow them to produce content. Monitor their content and see what gets the greatest customer interaction.

The ones with the best content? Employ them. Give them a chance to create products for you, offer them help with the actual creation and assembly, and offer them a % of the sales. This way you start to divorce your income from time spent writing.

Eventually you become an authority in the copywriting (or whatever) Niche, putting out more content than 'blogs' because the content isn't bottlenecked by a single writer. Then you can expand further.

To seminars, live courses, incubators, videos. Whatever. All because you've built a brand that people TRUST TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS.

It doesn't matter whether you're an elephant or a cheetah, if your running is done on a hamster-wheel. Focus on getting your head back, then FIND DIRECTION. Whether it's the one proposed here, or something completely different.

I wish you all the best.

Soldier on.

Whenever I'm feeling down, I like to watch this video and emphasize one key part:

No matter what failure I have today, my happiness won't be affected by it 3 months from now.

Typically that makes me happier and more willing to take on risk. Hopefully that video helps you as much as it helps me.

I can't (and won't) speak for the OP...but we've all had these days. The days where you say F*ck this and that. The days where you hate all that is not perfect. So we jump on the internets and write an angry manifesto. I've done this (here) as have many others.

I wouldn't hold the OP to his word, as it was likely expressed in dire straights.

OP, what are your new goals, and lessons learned?

Quick fable: a business-person ventures to Mexico where they encounter a man docking his small boat. The business man inquires about the fisherman's catch. "Oh jyes," replies the fisherman, "I wake up around 9, then I went out for an hour and caught many fish which I can sell and pay my bills. The rest of my day I spend sleeping in hammock"
The businessman ponders and responds, "do you realize that if you fished for 6-8 hours a day you would have enough money to buy another boat. Then, after a while, you could have a fleet of ships with fishermen catching fish, earning your millions of dollars annually?"
The "Mexican Fisherman" thinks for a bit and responds, "okay...but why do I do this?"
Confidently the businessman replies, "So you can retire, sleep until 9, spend a couple hours fishing, and then relax in a hammock."

The point I'm trying to make is this: design your ideal life, then plan how to get there. The "millionaire fastlane " isn't a roadmap to riches, it's a guide-book to going another way, the way you want, so that you have the *freedom* to make decisions that make you happiest.

*-|/end rant :)

I know he hasn't logged in for awhile but I hope the OP is doing better.

I never really told anyone but at about this time last year I suffered a similar predicament. I think I was putting too much pressure on myself to reach a certain level of success before I graduate and really lost sight of where I was in life.

Sometimes the best thing to do in a situation like that is to take a step back and ease the pressure you're putting on yourself for awhile. For me, that was focusing on bettering my relationships and myself as a person before I took another swing at the whole business thing.

I believe that is probably what OP is doing. I'm confident that he'll be back as an even stronger, better person and will be ready to tackle whatever it is he wants in life.

^ This is the reason I decided to start small by helping out a friend to gain experience and then see were it goes, I don't even know if my Idea can be turned into a money tree BUT! I have an idea how it might be able to be and only by trying will I see it come to fruition.
