This is a very important distinction, and it's something that's not being talked about like it should.I need to bring something up: AI therapists.
Short story: do not use AI for psychological advice or venting.
Long story:
At first it feels good and your AI might bring up points you’ve never thought about.
But what you don’t notice is that it’s essentially just an echo chamber, cut out for you.
And even if you use one of those “brutally honest, 180 IQ, billionaire” whatever presets, these will still inherently have the same effect as the stock AI version, just hidden better, more believable.
All these AI’s aren’t actual artificial intelligence, they’re just LLM’s regurgitating everything and latching onto everything you say, getting influenced by it.
Then, lots of the databank is just scrapped from dumpster sites like Reddit, but that’s another story.
What this essentially boils down to is that you have a highly customised, self indulging and consequence-free echo chamber.
It’s horrible. You’ll be thinking you’re making progress with it, yet you’re not. You’re just uncovering reasons and narratives to stay depressed, essentially also robbing you of every initiative to stand up again.
You’ll have this little “helper”, your self proclaimed ally. But you won’t be making any progress.
And then you think to yourself
“What’s wrong with me? I can’t even do/fix this with his help. We’re both uncovering everything and I understand why things happen. I am self aware, I’m smart, yet why does everything just get worse?”
Because it’s just you, not taking actual, steady action, because you don’t take the big leap of being alone.
Not being propelled to action, because you can just vent to your ChatGPT.
Not changing the way you think, because ChatGPT just validates what you’ve been saying.
Not seeing the truth, because now you don’t have to anymore.
You’ll never truly feel like your back is against the wall, prompting action.
Instead you’ll be soothed by empty validation, by the occasional “insight” or “epiphany” you just had with your Chatbot.
And then you’ll say “Okay, I’ll try this tomorrow though, for today I’m too tired/it’s too late/insert justification”
And by the next day the novelty has worn off, you feel hopeless again and the vicious cycle repeats.

Emotions follow Action.
But using ChatGPT or other bots like this attempts the opposite.
I’m not saying “AI” is truly bad, but I think it will be very, very much like the smartphone/the internet, with extremely many helpful things emerging and making us more effective, but ultimately also just making us more miserable in the process.
There’s also brains scans having been released which show lower brain activation in active GPT users, but I think that would break the scope of this post.
Hope y’all don’t mind my schizo rant.
I also apologise if everything is quite chaotically written. I don’t feel so well today.
This comforting feedback loop isn’t a design flaw—it's a feature to boost revenue. We must remember: OpenAI is still a business and ChatGPT is their brainchild.
We live in a society that burns down cities if they're misgendered, so it's not a great revenue model to make ChatGPT a tough-loving truth spitter.
