Hi all,
Without coming off as too self-centered, I figured I would make my first post on this forum an introduction to one of my favorite topics: myself.
All jokes aside, I am very glad to have found this site. I have been scouring the internet, passing guru after guru, and successfully avoiding the $997-course mafia. After countless books, reading MJ DeMarco's book "Unscripted " was really a breath of fresh air. With the upfront tone of David Goggins and conciseness that rivals Charlie Mungers, it instantly made my "must-read" list (alongside only two other books.)
But I digress. To keep the boring stuff to a minimum, I'll go through it quickly. I am currently 21. My country of origin lies somewhere in the god-forsaken landscape that is the EU, but I have been living in New Zealand since I was 14. Dropped out of Law school after 2 years and decided to work in sales. I figured that I would either need to know how to sell or how to market to run my own business. So sales it was.
While I am still working full-time, I am currently in the process of building two businesses. One of the two is an eCommerce business and the other is a marketing agency. I have already made the first sale for the former and overall very excited about what the future brings. Happy to talk about why I am still working full-time. The main advice/ strategy that I am following is from Mohnish Pabrai (see this fantastic video.)
If I am not working I usually spend an obscene amount of my spare time exercising (BJJ, Long distance running+swimming) or reading.
I have very big goals and aspirations. While the short term looks troublesome I am always an optimist for the long term.
For any of the more experienced members, I would love to have a chat with you about your journey either online or over a coffee (if you happen to be in NZ or in Japan over New Years.) I don't know how much posting I will actually be doing, since I find it hard to separate when I am providing value and when I am just mentally masturbating. Nonetheless, I am 100% interested in conversations with like-minded individuals!
I am looking forward to reading through all the posts that have accumulated here and gaining knowledge + skills along the way.
Thank you MJ DeMarco for the amazing books and this forum.
Ciao,
Ben
PS: LOTR only had a minute role in deciding to move to New Zealand.
