I was walking through town with my friend this evening, we ended up walking & talking till around midnight.
I was talking to him about mindset changes, discovery of entrepreneur stuff, learning, dreaming etc. I told him about how my parents and family react to these things. How they're ruining it all for me. Dream killers, sidewalkers etc etc I'm so much better than them.
So my friend started saying things like 'F*ck them man, they're not good for you anyway.' 'Move out asap and leave those F*cking leeches behind.' 'They're F*cking assholes who'll never amount to nothing.' 'They're against you etc etc.'
Now, at this point, I started getting a bit angry because I felt like he was unfairly attacking them. I keep listening, and he keeps doing that shit. Keeps insulting them, keeps saying how worthless they are and how I should just separate and forget them. Eventually I tell him 'Man, I disagree with them on some-things, but they're not that bad it's just mindset slips on my part.' - While the phrase was soft, the feeling inside me wasn't. I started feeling guilty. Uncomfortable.
Ungrateful.
Then he stopped in the street and said 'Oh, did I hit a nerve?' At this point I'm thinking 'what the F*ck is your deal?'
Then he says (not verbatim, but how I remember it) 'Just because they disagree with you, doesn't mean they don't love you or care for you. If you're gonna go on this journey, you can't expect to drag them along. Not when you have to walk through the mud and the shit to get the success & happiness you want. You can't expect them to just invest their belief in you. Your job is to be stronger than them. You can't make them endure. Come back to them when you have something solid in your hands.
You have a few bad experience with them and you're letting it cloud the fact that you love them, and that they love you.'
And that hit me so hard. And I got overwhelmed with this big sense of humility, and gratitude. Gratitude that my close family really do love me. And that I have a friend like most people could only dream of, who's willing to stand against my bullshit and risk conflict, just to open my eyes.
This gratitude makes me feel stronger. It makes me want to help people for the sake of helping people, I don't know this feeling, it's strange. Maybe it'll wear off when I go to sleep and wake up tomorrow. But right now, it's great. I want to be able to live feeling this way.
From a place of power and abundance, not desperation.
/Soppy rant.
