Not going to get tired of hearing you recover bit by bit! Congrats on the recovery, and keep going!Another Fake Leg Greg anniversary. One year ago I finally left the Brownsville hospital . I took my broken body for an 8 hour ride in the back of an ambulance to Fort Worth. We tried to work out air transport but couldn't get the logistics figured out. 1 year later, I can now chew and swallow. My jaw muscles and tongue had to relearn the whole process. I can swallow liquids without choking. I can talk although the stroke has left my facial muscles affected and the trach process has scarred my throat and left me with this cool Clint Eastwood voice. I can sit up and stand up without assistance. I have the strength to stand and walk without supports. I have the ability to drive again. I can also scratch when itch and roll over in bed when I want to. I don't even have to have my wife shave me or hold my hand when putting food in my mouth. I can also open twist off caps off of bottles without having someone loosen it first.
I have walked about 25 miles in the last 4 weeks and recently walked my first mile in less than 30 minutes. People are taking note of my progress in the gym., they saw me wheel in and work out with one leg last fall.
This is my period of celebration of me regaining my independence and freedom. Sorry if you guys get tired of hearing about this.
Man, you have come a long ways! Impressive biz execution. The HIV thing sucks. I hope you find the correct therapy to address this.I so loved to read this now. I have also went through something like this and it's been 1 complete year of nightmare.
Do check my thread also.
Keep us updated and keep going man. You are inspiring us and giving us a reason to push through a difficult times.
Thanks
I am still here. Nights are brutal. I cannot sit up without oxygen. I am fighting a sinus infection. I am on oxygen 24/7. I am hooked up to monitors also. I am monitored all night with little human interaction. The brain never stops thinking and has nothing to do. I listen to audio books for distraction. Nights are so lonely, scary, and quiet. Just you trying to see the sunrise and the brain that is not finding the solutions. I am concerned that this is not a linear fight. I m concerned about setbacks.
Fda just froze monoclonal treatments. Doc is refusing.
If you ever feel alone, know there are people here all over the world rooting for you. Before I went to bed last night you were in my thoughts for well wishes. Feel free to use the forum as your source for whatever connection you might need, if you need to vent, share some thoughts, or just have an outlet for your mind. No one should have to be alone while they battle illness, and we won't let it. That fact the you feel well enough to share your thoughts during your struggle gives me great hope you'll get through it!
Edit: removed last name for privacyTo all of Greg B******s Facebook friends. Greg took a bad turn early Sunday morning. He is now in ICU, on a ventilator, heavily sedated with high doses of pain meds. His heart rate was too high, and he couldn't breathe. We covet your prayers when you think about him.
Hey, thank you so much for this.I saw that Greg hadn't posted here or on Facebook in a while, so I checked his wife's page and she just posted this 1 minute ago:

Thanks for the news. I'm glad to hear he's better off now. This morning's update from Greg's wife:
Update on Greg B****** We have been on hold for a few days waiting for the tracheostomy and pic line surgery. They are planning on doing it today, along with the amputation. They have not given me a time yet. As soon as they tell me, I will let you prayer warriors know. Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support. Today will be a tough day for Greg.
What a great idea. I’ll send a note shortly.New update 3 June.
The address below is not Greg's home address, which is why I am ok posting it here, but I am going to delete the address after 24 hours so that I don't leave up potentially outdated info for future readers. If you don't see an address after June 4, just DM me for current mailing address.
