This is well worth listening to:

Whats your thoughts Andy on his three year plan for people starting off?

'The 1000 days model

Year 1 – building a skill set

Year 2 – selling that skill set to other people

Year 3 - scaling that skill set into an actual business

Learn how to direct sell, learn how to copy write, and learn how to do email marketing'

I LOVE the three year plan.

I especially like how they laugh at people running straight to SaaS without any skills or experience in the area they want to serve.

Listen to www.tropicalmba.com/consulting for their sliding scale. It's another great podcast.

Definitely learn one or both of direct selling and copywriting.

If you can't sell then you won't have a business. We're all in sales first and foremost.

Copywriting is just salesmanship in written form, so that's definitely useful, although I think we can get by without having to study copywriting, and just by using common sense and putting our customer needs before our own.

IMO, email marketing is "just" a specific way HOW to apply the two skills above. There are many ways HOW to sell, and not all are in written form. So I would put less emphasis on email marketing.

Your goal is to find your optimum selling strategy (OSS) as mentioned in the book "Ready, Fire, Aim".

I summarised stage 1 in that book in this post:

Just my 2c...

Thanks Andy.

This is my main plan for my first year in South America. My ego says otherwise but I know I have to go back and learn a basic skill such as sales copy from scratch to a level of high proficiency. Thanks for writing that up.

I am also interested in this, but how did all of you manage living legally? Did you get a work visa prior or what?

Visa for Colombia is quite easy for the first six months. There are lots of little tricks around staying longer.
As for Canada that took a lot longer. The immigration process is quite strict. Don't think that many people here will be thinking about 'escaping' to Canada though haha.

I'd say before making any big decisions, take a step back and analyze what is causing your unhappiness, unfulfillment or whatever and see what needs to be changed.

Or else your problems will simply follow you to a new location. If you're just looking for a change and some adventure that's fine too.

Other than that good luck and let us know your experiences!

Go for it.

I've "technically" been homeless for over two years now, with a wife and two little kids. I wouldn't change a thing.

Keeping with the fastlane analogy, it's like a turbo charger for life. You cram so much more living into every day. You will have more life experiences in a month or two than your friends/family back home will in a year.

In Hong Kong once I set up my business I sponsored my own visa. Did the same in Thailand also. Not difficult to do.

So I'm doing it. Not to "start over" but for myself, to complete my goal. I have no money and one month.

The plan I came up with a couple of days ago for my New York go California move.

Cali goals:

Main Goal:(1.5-2yrs after arrival date): Get a home one block away from the beach in San Diego

Goal 1:
Arrive in Cali January 15th
$1100 month apartment

What's needed:
Goal 1:
Airfare:$200
1st,Last mo sec:$2,200
Security for 6months:$6,600

Needed to complete goal 1:
$9,000

Ways to compete goal 1:
1. $300 a day for 30 days
2. $4,500 for two jobs
3. 15 jobs for $600 each
4. 360 sales at $24.95 each Sale
5. 183 sales at $49 each sale
6. 90 sales at $99
7. 18 sales at $499

How to complete goal 1:
My blog:
How to make $10,000 in a month:

Blog posts:
-Write 5 posts a week
-Advertise those 5 posts to build up mailing list and traffic
