I know better. I do. But sometimes you get so busy and if things kinda check out you make a snap judgement. I didn't dig deeper and this time my judgement was wrong.
I hired a bookkeeper for my new Ecom business. I had had 3 bookkeepers not even return my phone calls, so when I walked into a client's office and the bookkeeper he had been raving about was there, I introduced myself.
My client isn't an ecom business, but she said she knew ecom. She'd been doing this for over 10 years. And her hourly rate was 25% lower than I expected. We were trying to save $$, so that was a plus. I asked for help on a specific issue and for an estimate of hours. Roughly 2 hours, she said.
Well...
The first 2 hour meeting led to 8 hours of her taking work home (that choice falls on my partner.) And in the end, we never got 100% resolution.
So we had her come back to help us figure out a few accounting issues that were cropping up surrounding inventory management for a biz that dropships and has on-the-shelf inventory. 2 hours later, we're back to where we started.
After the first instance, I should've started looking for an expert in the field. But I'm busy, I didn't take on the responsibility for solving the problem, and all told we've spent 12 hours @ $45/hr for something that I honestly believe an expert with $100/hr price tag could've probably fixed in 30 minutes. Because seriously, our questions were that basic...
So remember Fastlane Fam, sometimes the lower price tag is the more expensive option.
(And if anyone has a good ecom bookkeeper, I don't need one now, but maybe DM me the person's details for later? Thanks.)
