Where do you search to see if a domain name is available?

Throw it into your address bar first. If the page cannot be found, then move on to GoDaddy or whomever you prefer. But be ready to buy! Once you search it out on a registry site, you can consider it gone to hackers or "technical difficulties" or whatever.

What you you guys think about www.greensfh.com.

Speaking only from my own perspective, SFH is a pretty jargony acronym. Most homeowners do not refer to their dwellings as "my SFH." If you were to develop it in the direction of RE investors (who use the acronym all the time), it will be much more memorable to them.

Sounds like you're getting them from the same email list that I get. ;)

I thought about getting two of the the ones you picked up.

The person would have to pay to register it to themselves. Say your domain was at godaddy and the person you wanted to transfer set up an account there, it would be 6.99 to transffer the domain name i believe.

i picked these up a few days ago.

exoticcc.com
exoticcarcentral.com

what do you think of them?

What are you going to do with them? Nothing to think about unless you got plans to develop them. If you are going to make an exotic site with pictures/video i would use the second one. the first one i think exotic credit card.

I agree. Good find, Dan!

I think it's a pretty competitive industry, but do you plan on developing the site or selling off the domain?

I just want to sell it for a couple hundred or maybe a grand if its worth it.

Not worth anything until someone is willing to pay for it. Hopefully someone is looking for a domain like that however i imagine if they needed it you wouldnt have picked it up so easily. So you might have to sit on it for sale for ahwhile. Or of course, develop it into something worth while and sell it then.

Quick question.

I am about a click away from buying a domain I like.

here is the question. The item the website is centered around is going to be plural - but isnt the singular version of domain better?

for example. if I am selling classic cars, what is better

classiccar.com even though I am selling MANY or classiccars.com with the s?

OOPS BETTER IDEA YET.

How about BOTH?!

edit - just went nuts and bough 3 domains centered around same thing. Just to protect the brand. And I don't even have the .net ones.. do I really need those if I have all the .com?

Don't get hooked like me you will end up broke getting 10-20 at a time. Anyway the ideal domain to use is one that best embodies the way people naturally search for what you are offering. Imagine sitting at your computer and looking for the wdget you sell. what would you type in google? "im looking for classic cars" or "im looking for classic car". There is a way to affirm this as well and that is keyword tools like googles (ppc results) and SEO books keyword tool. See which one has more searches.

im holding on to derivativesusa.com ; I hope to make use of it in the future.

I am still holding onto this domain name and I am wondering what do you guys think about its potential value?

It ties in with whats going on right now; I am thinking on selling it.

thanks for all insight.

Will not be worth much without a site attached to it. I would develop it atleast into something with content and try to sell that on sitepoint or digital point if you want a bit more money.

Unfortunately, they are both equal -- if you brand one and the other falls into other hands, people will visit the other and vice versa. I know exactly how this happens because one of my company's nemesis has been its "s-less" namesake who would also receive our traffic -- and then, we'd receive theirs. It was so frustrating to have to explain to people, "No we are not them"

Try to get both - always -- then try to look at ranking methods at various websites -- if I had to pick however, I'd probably go with a plural for an aggregating service.

OOPS BETTER IDEA YET.

I wouldn't worry about the others -- people don't go to .NET over .COM. Your brand starts and ends with .COM ... not .WS, .NET. .INFO

It's pretty good and salable, but not worth much IMO. I'd be surprised if you received over $500 for it.

I recently bought www.onemoregoal.com (currently nothing there) for my soccer website I'll be making. The URL hints at the idea that it's for players that want to constantly improve their game to the "next level". I figured, I'm always going around to soccer forums helping so why not make one location I can provide a lot of information and still help people. Also will be making training videos in order to help fund my trip to England to pursue professional soccer myself. :smug2:

Do NOT search for a domain name until you are ready to buy it, especially on GoDaddy. There are many ways for people to intercept your search and register the name before you can do it. It happened to MJ, and it happens every day to many people.

Wow..is this really true. I always use GD to search (and buy) the domains for my potential sites. But, if I think about it for a second it makes sense. All of that search data would be valuable if you has access to it.

Any suggestions on where to "safely" search for domains?

To all those with alot of domain's, i'm assuming your simply buying the domains, registering your info so you're accessible via whois, and not hosting anything on them?
