Google just revised my local business hours. What a bunch of presumptuous assholes.
Well ok, it appears they called my answering service to confirm. Sorry Google

The sentence from Will Smiths' book where he says that he didn't look forward to enjoy a day off with his friends really hit me. And I think this is a very important point in the discussion of chasing big goals versus enjoying life.

The problem, at least for me, is with the goals that I have I work so hard that my mind is raging constantly. There isn't a second that goes by when I'm not thinking about my businesses. I do meditate and I'm aware of the importance of being present (with my family) and just enjoy being. But it's so FREAKING hard for me to do when I have all these daily goals I want to meet.

I really enjoy working on my businesses because my ideas are working out and customers are buying my products. It gives me satisfaction. However, not being able to enjoy life as I should is not a part that I enjoy. And I certainly don't want to live like this the rest of my life.

So what to do? Stop chasing my goals which I enjoy doing? Or start being present which I enjoy doing? Because both at the same time doesn't seem to work for me.

Perhaps it really depends on your personality on how well you manage to shut down your mind...
we have to grow otherwise life does whatever it wants to you.

It seems obvious, but try to focus on one at a time not both at the same time? When you’re with your family try not to think of work.

I hate when someone sends me an email and immediately calls me to talk about it, before I've even opened it.

Or when they run to you and say "did you get my email?" and it pops up right as they say that...

I am slowly starting a new business in government contracting. I was at my real job on Tuesday, busy working on something, didn't have time to look at my business email. I get a random call on my business line that goes into my personal phone. There was no caller ID so I just looked at it to see if it would come up, but I didn't have time to answer. Seems like the guy hung up fairly quickly too. Then I get a voicemail saying he's from a company and he saw I got my first award and he wanted to talk to me.

I checked my email and saw I had my first award. He knew before I did. I was kind of annoyed how it was like he was scouring the awards and instantly called me. I didn't call him back because there is nothing he's going to say to help me anyway.

Any Wordpress pros out there?

I have this page HERE which should not exist. This is the correct page. I have no idea how to delete the former page as it is not listed anywhere as a page, or a post. It is a category in my WooCommerce installation which again, is here. Looks like a bunch of spam scammers have found that page and keep commenting a bunch of crap on it. I just paid to have my eCom website converted from OpenCart to WP/Woo and that contract is over... so I'm a bit of a newb and are at the beginning of the learning curve.

Does your hosting allow you access to cPanel for Wordpress? You might be able to delete the page from there (probably using the File Manager).

You would just need to find the right folder, subfolders, etc. in the cPanel file manager (you should see folders with names that are the same path as the URL, e.g. /wp, /ebooks.

I'm not sure on the exact details as I've never deleted a page from cPanel before, but hopefully that gives you the right direction. It might be a good idea to make a backup of the site before you play around with cPanel, just in case.

@MJ DeMarco when you visit this page logged in as admin, are you able to edit it? I guess this page's slug is ebooks?

You could search for it directly in database and delete it that way. E.g.search by slug, or by some text that you enter on page.

Not sure what it is, but happy to jump on a screenshare call to help you debug. Will be online for a few more hours so be welcome to PM me.

I think this is the right tract, however, no, there is no page, WP category, or post with "ebook" -- only a category in the WooCommerce platform with eBooks as the slug.

Seems it might be a matter of setup, rather than actual page/post?

As visiting e.g. /productivity page results in the same output as /ebooks

Maybe this can be of help: Permalinks

Sorry for not being more helpful, I'm not familiar with WooCommerce:)

I think this depends on how you judge massive value. I feel like you may be correlating it with money. Because if you really look at a huge company, let's say Coca-Cola for example. How do you judge if that company is providing massive value or just a massive gross and net revenue?

I also don't think that people who are doing a smaller business are "afraid" of the things you mentioned. To be honest, I think it is because we don't know how to go from $5M to $50M. I talk to alot of people on this forum with very successful businesses. And many of us simply don't know how to make the leap. And we also don't want to risk our life savings that we've worked so hard to earn to invest into making that leap. Earning $1M is hard work, and simply going all in and plowing that into something risky is hard to do.

On the other hand, I have friends in Silicon Valley that begin their business by getting funding. That is their step one, to get $1-$5M. Then they try to exit for $50M in 5 years. That is a totally different type of entrepreneur than you see on this forum. They are on different forums filled with people in incubators. Listening to them speak is like a foreign language compared to here. For them, the $1M invested into a high risk high return business isn't that hard because it wasn't their hard earned $1M.

I can speak for myself personally, when I say that I'm not concerned with "lifestyle" any more. But trying to increase my net worth by 2x, 3x or 10x requires alot of hard work and doesn't change my life at all. So I don't know what the point is. If I wanted to provide massive value without massive headaches, I'd just start a non-profit foundation.

I knew there was a shift in my mindset when I stopped watching Shark Tank. 10 years ago, I would have killed to get on Shark Tank and get an investment. Now, when I hear about that show the last thing I want is an investment because it means more work and responsibility for little payoff.

I don't mean it from a pure numbers perspective at all @biophase

Before your current success, I bet you were one hungry animal trying to make it. Your posts and interests probably showed that. Yet once we have enough annual profit and enough net worth to get very comfortable, we all start asking existential questions. What's the point of it all? Why do I need to do more when my lifestyle won't change?

My rant was about the guys here who are lethargic or didn't even yet achieve much and are already giving up. People who are afraid of a little David Goggins in their lives and pretend like hard work and ambition are a bad thing. Point being, this is a forum for entrepreneurs. People who do have ambition.

To each their own. I am not saying that exiting a business and changing what you do is a bad thing. Not at all. But this place (I think) was designed for ambition. For wanting more out of life. Maybe if I wanted to talk to people about the next cool thing to buy, like a lambo, rolls or the latest hip vacation house - I would look for a "lifestyle" forum.

Some people will judge me. I am that idiot who really loves being in business, building a company, solving daily puzzles. I can't imagine anything more suited to my personality than entrepreneurship. And I always feel like I am just getting started. My outlook on life is positive. I hope and wish to see more people on this forum who are energized, hungry, ambitious - it's not about the 7, 8, 9 or 10 figure net worth. Number is just a number, who cares? It's about mindset. It's about attitude. And lately I saw more and more depressing, lethargic posts here. Hence the rant.

In response to "I don't know how to go from $5M to $50M" - wouldn't it be fun to brainstorm and figure it out? I bet there are thousands of people here who don't know how to get form *job* to $5M. ;)

His kids may not want it. Would he be ok if his kids just sold it and cashed out right away?

What's the difference? I mean, do you live for some imaginary notion that you can control what your kids or their kids will do? Hopefully not.

Building a business is rewarding in itself. And the icing on the cake is that you have a business to give to your kids. It's on them to do what they wish after that.

I agree with the OP, one of the best gifts is a business. It gives kids choices that many of us didn't have. The hardest part for parents is to instil the desire to be a productive person, to make good decisions etc. Some kids will piss it all away, it is what it is.

Sucking is not ok with me and never will be, don't try to drag me to that headspace because I'm not going there with you. This post pushes you. This post makes you better. Excuse posts make you worse. Liking them makes you worse. Believe in better or keep building the walls. Your choice. Let the berating commence.

Somebody I know made this point a while ago - 'Hannibal lead a war against Rome in his 20s and you're telling me that you can’t figure out how to make millions on the internet?'

Pretty cool free directory of online communities in 89 different niches (with new topics constantly being added). If you want to start your business by building an audience first, it's easier to provide value to an existing one.

@Andy Black you'll probably find this useful.

Ooo. Look at all those places I can make a nuisance of myself in!

(I jest. I left a few communities recently because I was spending too much time in them.)

Haha you tend to repeat this phrase so often that at this point when I think of the word "nuisance" I think of you.

If I were to give you a gift, I'd make you a t-shirt with Andy "let's make a nuisance of myself" Black.

Doh. When I encouraged people to position themselves as “The XYZ Guy/Gal” I hadn’t quite envisioned Andy, The Community Nuisance Guy.

Oh well, if the hat fits.

As long as you don’t die, you CAN stand i

Sigmund Freud said if you can overcome the fear of death, you basically overcome all your other fears.

I always think that our fears and anxieties are driven by what we think we “know” and expect and yet death is something that always comes out of nowhere.

Death is built into the very structure of reality. It exists because birth exists. The same way falsity exists because truth exists. We can only take comfort in the eternal connection we have with all the universe.

Actually let me add that I actually believe death is just another birth. You just can’t “see” it “ or “experience” it. It’s an illusion. There’s no such thing as death.
