Well, it is simple, but that doesn't mean easy. Take a few days and think about things you wish someone else would build, things you wish existed but don't.

You're defining failure based on financial results, which makes sense for a business of course, but it sounds like you need to get out of a rut more than you need a business. If you pick something completely new and start down that path with the goal of learning/improving yourself, you don't need it to be a business yet, so the failure condition should be different. Besides, until you learn what you will learn by building it, you're probably not in a great position to make business decisions about it anyway. If you are, then maybe it isn't different enough.

No problem if you don't want to lose money on it, just decide from the start not to spend money on it, or at least cap the spend at a trivial amount. That might limit the scope of course. You're probably not building a house with zero money, but you can build software without spending anything. (Although you could get around that by having raising money as part of the project.)

Thanks. For the next couple of months I plan to focus more on developing my ocean skills which has nothing to do with business but I hope that getting out of a rut will help me regain energy and build something new (or see a new path for my current business).

If you could snap your fingers and get the exact life you wanted, how would it look?

Reverse engineer from there. 1/5/10 plan, or 1/3/5, or 1/4/8 ... doesn't really matter the time frames.

Thanks, will have to consider this question again when I'm in a better state of mind. Hard to dream if you're filled with fear and frustration.

Big companies and their bureaucracy are so terrible.

I'm literally renting an office space starting 10/1 because of a large vendor and their bureaucracy . Apparently I'm a 'safer' client if I have a physical office space instead of working out of a spare bedroom. It's stupid and it now has adjusted my sell the business timeline from 7 years to now down to 3-4 years. I want out.

I don't blame you! Why were they even asking if you were working out of a spare bedroom? You should've got a PO box for mail and just claimed you had office space but couldn't accept mail or something lol

I have a PO box. They require an app for me to take photos of my office for 'security reasons' and upload them. The app has GPS. They will know if I take the photos of my office and it comes up as my home address.

Wow that's crazy! I would've cited privacy reasons and tried to opt out, still. Or paid someone to visit their office and snap a pic, haha. Who are you trying to work with, the CIA?! :bored::rofl:

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is now studying "gun violence".

Something tells me their "studies" will lead to No-Firearm-Guaranteed Passports. Just let the CDC search your home, track your records, and ensure you're not a holder of a firearm. For your safety.

Honestly this is all just such utter bullshit.

Everything can be labeled a public health threat and thus controlled; everything can be labeled part of "commerce" and thus taxed (and regulated - controlled); everything can be interpreted in a way for the UN to control as well.

You didn't vote for this, because there isn't a vote for this.

It's not going to end unless people make it end...

Tell me if you see the parallels:

Zealotry of the current party
NIH funding GoF in the name of national security - project fails
Spider as Fauci - targeting children
Media spread fear and panic - fractionalizing and dividing the country
Despite obvious signs, the political party everyone hates wins again (look no further than Trudeau's party)
After the election - low and behold a miracle drug delivered by the pharmaceutical companies
Extremists are found guilty and charged (the Jan 6 "rebellions")

The end result? The true genius? Fear becomes the ultimate tool.

While we sit here with a thumb up our asses debating which vaccine brand is most effective, J&J or Moderna, a coordinated effort towards establishing a unified global government is bankrupting the free American nation, erasing our history, effectively changing the constitution, destroying small businesses, buying up residential and farm lands, and forcing you to stay at home so you don't have the opportunity to exchange ideas with your neighbors.

No this is not fiction, this is reality. But go ahead, call me a "conspiracy theorist" while sitting around as a "complacency theorist" denying your own right to freedom.

Rewatching Breaking Bad. Gustavo Fring is my favourite character, he's amazing.

There's probably a Gus who effortlessly passes by us at some point in our lives, and almost definitely in a community of thousands of entrepreneurs. Cool to think about

How did we stray so far from science and data that over half the people asked overestimate the severity of a flu strain leading to hospitalisation by close to 4000%?

Its like how the average Brit estimated 7% of the UK population had died of covid by August 2020, when it was actually around 0.01%.

I avoid reading into the news too much but knowing the average person is ridiculously easy to manipulated puts into perspective the necessity make the shift from consumer to producer.

Curious @MTF, do you meditate any more? It seemed like it was a part of your routine, then it wasn't.

Curious @MTF, do you meditate any more? It seemed like it was a part of your routine, then it wasn't.

I stopped doing it after doing it for many weeks solely out of an obligation, because of the sunk cost fallacy. It no longer helped my mental state. Quite the contrary: the thought of sitting for an hour every morning filled me with dread. Ultimately, I get way more out of being in the water or somewhere where it's peaceful.

For me it's mountainbiking before sunrise that does the trick, stops excessive thinking and forces me to be in the present moment, unless I want to eat dirt. I still sit down regularly to meditate, but then I focus my mind on the next step of my journey, the obstacles that will try to stop me from progressing, and then accept, hell, even welcome them.

I've always gotten the impression from your posts that you're a smart and capable being.
Regarding your situation, without knowing the specifics, it could be that you're wasting your time with "lifestyle businesses" and chasing a comfy life, or feeling inferior because you're not building a huge corporation and "leave a legacy".
There's probably something you know you could and should do right now that will make your life and the life of others a lot better, like your conscience calling you to build an ark, metaphorically speaking. But you're shying away from it, for whatever reasons. Not good enough. To late. Don't know enough. I'll be criticized. They'll laugh at me. Whatever.

Here's the thing: If you have a lot of lead dragging you down, that's great. Accept the burden and carry it. Only then can you turn that lead into gold.
And you might as well put all your energy and thought into it and perish while doing so. Our time here is limited. Your death is inevitable, you're already with one foot in your grave, a dead man gliding through a cosmic meatgrinder. Keep that fact in mind, and you'll realize that there's nothing to be afraid of. Through selfless sacrifice for "the big task", your calling, staying present and regularly asking yourself, "What's the best thing I can do right now?", you'll find all the answers and meaning you're looking for.
And frequent moments of absolute bliss and exhilaration, even though
you're not chasing them.
It's not an easy way, but for some, it's the only way.
Good luck, dude.

It's the opposite for me. Building a huge corporation sounds like a nightmare, perhaps even worse than working for one. I love my freedom and don't want to trade it for something that would ultimately lead me to the exact same place I am in now (reminds me of that "Mexican Fisherman" story).

Also, I don't really care much about leaving a legacy because I don't see the point. When death comes, none of it matters anyway. Why bother building an ultimately meaningless huge corporation if making enough to sustain your ideal lifestyle and then just enjoy it is an option?

When people pursue these big ideas, they're merely distracting themselves from the fact that it's all meaningless. I'm aware this sounds very nihilistic but it doesn't make it any less true.

This is the reason why I struggle. I'm barely in my early thirties and my life has already turned much darker after a traumatic event two years ago that still haunts me to this day. I can't even imagine how people way older than me can keep living without going crazy from all the trauma they've accumulated along the way.

Too scared to use any of it. You're talking with a guy who has never had a drink or smoke, let alone taken any drugs.

Understood.

I read few stories on the internet about people having life altering experience for good after an Ayahuasca ceremony (there some posts on this forum too). So I felt it might be of some help to you.

Noah Kagan's story is one that I found interesting: The Worst Night of My Life: My Ayahuasca Experience

Also, I assume that it's our @snowbank that Noah mentions as "Billy" in the article. Not sure, though.
