Day 35

I have officially become a processes evangelist. Save your progress guys.

I'd rather just show you lol...
View attachment 38715
I've made a folder called processes and in it contains the different to do's in terms of actions I ought to get done all organised in a folder.

View attachment 38714
This is the readme. Each of these should have a desired result, the result to measure from the action (KPIs), and the actual results.

View attachment 38716
In each document contains something like this.
View attachment 38718
Below it contains the results of the action over the week.

Process streamlined. In this way, I can find out what works and what doesn't. Possibly outsource the work. And work a lot quicker and in less confusion. I'm going to try and wrap the interviews up in the next 2 months by collecting at least two recordings from the experts every day.

(15 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done ✅
(1 hour) Lex copywriting guide day 11 | Learn what direct response copywriting is ✅
(1 hour) Make processes for video editing, video posting on youtube, interview/discussion invitation, interview posting of questions and following up. ✅

Looking forward to tomorrow. Dream big.

Day 36

Today I made REAL progress. It's the first time I've felt I've done a lot for a day's worth of work.

I reread ICK's astonishing secrets thread and took two pieces of vital info from it.

1. Love others deeply
2. Take action on the things that matter (AKA push towards sales)

So I took his advice and made a recording saying, "I love everyone. I'm an action taking machine and take actions that get sales."

And like magic I worked for about 6 hours with barely a scratch. I'm also feeling a lot less detached lately due to the shifts. He wasn't kidding when he said the greatest value in this thing isn't money, but the person you become out of it.

(4 hour) Send in 4 Upwork proposals ✅
( 2 hours ) Shoot for 10 messages today to CEO’s of the companies.
(15 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done for future tweaks ✅

I was afraid to aim for 'big' companies. I searched up some of the owners on Linkedin and decided, you know what if I'm doing this thing I might as well make my actions worth it.

So I sent them messages and 1 of them responded, the owner of a fortune 5000 company. It's something and it was encouraging. Meanwhile my first youtube video on this has a whooping 2 views so far XD

Might need to make a TikTok to help with that.

(2 hours ) Shoot for 10 messages today to CEO’s of the companies.

Due to using processes I was able to streamline the actions and save about 2 hours.

Got a response from one of the clients on Upwork, they say for the future they would like to hire me. There was a 10% response rate from the CEO's from Linkedin Inmail, I should use it they're even offering a free trial but its $30. It's totally worth the cost though.

As I try to do everyday, helped my friend spark some ideas about her clothing brand. Never knew they had one until I told them, "Hey if you need any help with anything I'm available". They literally called me for a face time to talk and showed me all about their business. Talk about a free day tour! She had the problem of getting engagement on their social media page....wait a minute... I smell a PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED.

The CEO that's currently in contact is remarkably the one that wants to the do the meeting the most lol. He wants to have a live meeting where before I was recommending he just record it and send. But he said if it's below 20 minutes it's fine. I was going to decline but I would be mad too and I have a subtle feeling this could be the start of something great if it is live.

Also wrote a commercial script on lucky charms for myself that helped bring out my inner child. Fun.

Day 38
HIRED
Guys TODAY I... relaxed. Strategy revision baby!

I've decided to in addition, add actions to do to improve already existing actions results. E.G.

(1 hour) Shoot for 10 messages today to CEO’s of X companies. | Use Inmail or normal mail this time to increase response rates.

I also learnt that stepping into the shoes of your customers is SUPER important. I received my first seemingly random Linkedin connection today (ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED) and was so confused by it that I rejected it, especially because there was no message attached to it and the profile picture looked shady.

But that's almost what I do lol. By connecting with CEOs and owners and sending a message you're asking them to commit to two things which will probably reduce responses by a lot.

If I had reasoned and imagined the interaction from their perspective, I probably would have noticed this. That's why feedback and implementing it is so important. To solve this, I should get their professional emails or use Inmail wherever I can.

I feel that without feedback, action is just not that useful, especially if it is repeated action.

On another note, I got HIRED by a forum member, @BlackSuperman

(He's Mr Cat by the way)
He offered me the chance for a partnership where I can help him write articles for his clients so he can find more clients.

I learn and earn as I gain a portfolio piece while he creates systems for getting more clients. Win-win, such deals are the sweetest.

I was a little hesitant at first though. My goal was and still is to learn direct response copywriting (Specialised skill) to use in future businesses (Like the one I'm currently interviewing others for).

But he cleared all my doubts and I knew I had to work with him. I was even willing to do it for free, because I believe in providing value first above all else, this would be my first official blog post/article after all.

But he rejected that since he understood that free work can almost never be the same quality as paid work. He's been there and done that. At the end of the day, we struck a great deal for the writing. Nice!

And all of this, because he offered to help other forum members with their Upwork applications.

Value is paid back in mysterious ways huh.

Thanks BSuperman! XD

Day 39

Went out with my family for spurs, did I have loads more to do at home? You betcha!

(15 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done ✅

(1:30 hour) Shoot for 10 messages today to CEO’s of companies. | Use Inmail or normal mail this time ✅

(1:30 hour) Lex copywriting guide day 15 [Finished] | Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practiced it in the real world (Hacking into a foundational desire with the CEOs, hopefully produces a better response rate) ✅
@Lex DeVille

(5 minutes) Post a similar job post on Upwork on landing pages to see what was already seen to compare and contrast proposals ✅

(9 minutes) Watch how to get Upwork clients better (Need a video testimonial and aim to get clients on a call instead) ✅

(10 minutes) Asked 1 prospects online to write free copy for them (Email) ✅

Things are only probably going to get more complex as time goes on, not to fear however for processes are here!

Highlight of the day had to be posting an Upwork application as an employer. I wanted to see just what good proposals were made off so I made a client Upwork account and posted a job application. I already had 4 applications in less than an hour. WHAT.

Also received a response from another company, might be a generic reply soon email, who knows.

I'm going to start reaching out to clients outside of Upwork now. Need to be bold and just go with that.

Also, working with Bsuperman tomorrow, looking forward to it.

LinkedIn is a great source of clients, just need to identify as specific as possible WHO your clients are.

Example: My numero uno client base are B2B SaaS Marketing Managers.

Oh wow, that's really specific!

Do you think digital marketing consultants would be too broad of a field for interviewing?

Yeah it's definitely perfect when looking for work.

It's goos to start broad and lwt the market decide who your demographic is.

If you haven't had alot of clients, it's fair to be broad. As you get more & more work, you'll find out who you deal with alot and who you get results for. Then you eventually want to stick to that type of client.

Day 40
TORNADO
Wow! We're about to cross the halfway mark of this, nice!

No there was no actual tornado let me explain.

(30 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done (Email, Upwork job post, Linkedin) ✅

(20 minutes) Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practice it in the real world (Hacking into a foundational desire) ✅

I was moving along my day when they took the light and my computer battery died early...in the middle of writing one of the best proposals I've ever written *faceslap*

Pain. Next time I'm charging my computer in anticipation for a blackout.

If that wasn't enough, my school's Microsoft Word license finally decided to resurrect from the grave it's expiration after my battery died... meaning that all my processes and the feedback written in them (Tables and measurements) couldn't be accessed. Ctrl+c wasn't going to do it.

Pain. Going to use Libre Office from now on. Who knew there was a free well written word processor out there? Mind blown. This would have been so helpful to know in secondary school.

Going to have to transfer all the info into that.

On another note, I conducted an exciting Upwork experiment.

The previous day I decided I wanted to play client and see just what kind of proposals got submitted and what made a great proposal.

My findings were exciting. This is what real feedback is all about. I'll share that hopefully tomorrow since LibreOffice is still downloading and it'll take some time for a transfer.

On another note, I realised that feedback are facts. Don't make the mistake of taking your opinion as a fact (Assumptions) or you'll be operating on toxic chocolate.

Note- Have about 6 interviews recorded (Local). Cool for a weekly post but it would just take so long for me to get to 30 Internationally (About 7 months?!), not even considering 100. We press on though. If I can't commit to this, how can I commit to other projects. Until the data says nay, this is a bad idea I press on. I believe MJ wrote a comment on that sometime ago.

P.S. I'm afraid that if I focus locally, they might not be able to pay for the solution. The current earnings in our country is about $2000 a year (assumption) and that's on the good side. Though the companies might be able to pay for it. I don't want to even try this in a broke market XD and waste so much time. If I focus on the US though things might be different (For consultants rather than companies).

What are your thoughts? Should I focus locally (Consultants or companies) or internationally (Consultants or companies)?

And do I need to aim for the owners/CEO's or is ok to target the consultants/employees at these companies?

EDIT: Yelp might help with this. But you also need to find companies that want to improve and grow so using reviews as a discerning factor.

My battery's about to die so I'll end it here. And the most bizarre thing about today? I found a specialist who was doing exactly what I WAS DOING (Or more like I was a poor imitation of her methods XD). Interviewing and collating very similar content to what I was doing.

In any case, it provides a visual guide of what I should aim to do.

Today I realised something. In order to move forward I must increase my intrinsic value.

Mr Stoic helped me with understanding my problems. Right now, that would be getting clients to write copy for. After that, it would be getting responses from the people I ask for interviews.

I plan to write my problems daily from now on in full verbose everyday, to see how I can break it down and solve.

I haven't forgotten the goal of the challenge though XD !

I'm so behind. At this rate, I'll need to get $25 a day for the next 45 days ($175) to even consider passing the $1k mark.

Starting from today, I'm going to to my best to achieving this. I've contacted good friends and family for referrals to start writing for them, for free. Using this portfolio I should be able to apply to even more positions and take it from there.

As for the interviews, I may have struck a gold mine. In the lands of the specialists I forgot to check youtube where they publish about of their lives and where other thought leaders lurk in the comment section, with this I can start reaching more specialists there to interview. They're bound to respond (Hopefully XD).

Everyday, grow my intrinsic value to affect even more people in greater influence. That's what I hope to do.

(20 minutes) Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practice it in the real world (Hacking into a foundational desire)

After mining for my personal network, found a business owner who was in the legal sector. In contact with his daughter, we agreed that if it was great she would show the piece to him. For this I need to put a lot into it so he's blown away (They're a family of lawyers so he'd most likely refer me if I blow it out of the water).

A CHANCE.

Just hope I can overdeliver XD (It's a long home page, so I need to write it here to remind me to give it my best shot).

Journo for freelancers. If you're a freelancer and want to showcase your portfolio awesomely I recommend Journo, it took me 30 minutes of setting up but it's a lot better than using google docs alone. Here's how it looks-
Screenshot 2021-07-11 at 10.13.31 PM.png
Now I can add images to it, and clients can browse according to their needs. It might not be Journo, but that's just what I used.

Now, to revise my strategies and relax...

Day 44
Free Client Landed...Kind of.

(10 minutes) Problem solving session ✅

(15 minutes) Optimise plans for practical pro approaches (Use what already exists). ✅

[I often made the mistake of starting from scratch when what I want to do has already been down before, no need to be a Thomas Edison at EVERYTHING and waste time unnecessarily.]

(10 minutes) Send connection requests to 5 CEO’s locally future help in their copy. ✅

(30 minutes ) Create a portfolio with Journo ✅

(10 minutes) Shoot for 10 messages today to consultants/specialists/experts (that post) for strategies, tactics, tips, tools and data and marketing strategies after engaging their content. | Use normal mail and use the template that already worked before, keep it simple ✅

(15 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done (Email, Upwork job post, Linkedin, ask Alex why he was interested) ✅

(1 hour) Edit and post youtube video on an interview

(10 minutes) Post content on Linkedin ✅

(15 minutes) Strategy revision session | Operate everything on a pro level ✅

(20 minutes) Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practice it in the real world (Hacking into a foundational desire) ✅

(1:20 hour) Send in 1 Upwork proposals ✅

(30 minutes) Write blog article ✅

Had an interview with a fortune 5000 CEO today, the guy was rad! Not only was he really eager for the interview, he was the most fun guy I've ever interviewed.

He had a rags to riches story on how he built the company. The guy even had to drink orange juice in his cereal, I love cereal but that's a huge stretch even for me! XD

He talked about problems in the industry like transparency and even scaling the company to over 200 employees.

It made me realise that another great thing about the interviews is the interesting people you get to meet.

Going to start the free copy work for the legal sector first thing tomorrow and strive to finish it soon. Hopefully wow them.

Refining my ideal prospect to target for the interviews as well.

(15 minutes) Strategy revision session | Operate everything on a pro level ✅

(30 minutes) Write copy for friend’s website ✅

(15 minutes) Collect feedback for actions done (Email, Upwork job post, Linkedin, ask Alex why he was interested) ✅ | Interviews to follow the latest trends to hear insights form various experts in the field

(20 minutes) Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practiced it in the real world (Hacking into a foundational desire) ✅

(1:20 hour) Send in 2 Upwork proposals ✅

(5 minutes) Connect with 5 consultants ✅

Ok, so I believe I now know how to get in the door with some specialists. Learning how to intrigue them for an interview though.

I'm down to my last Upwork connects before I have to buy more XD

I really am trying with the proposals, we plow through! I have a feeling I'm so close to a breakthrough on it. Hope it comes true.

Here's what I learned reading cashvertising today:
  1. Experiences are made up of VAKOG (Visual, auditory, Kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory [taste]). Boost the power of your copy by increasing the strength of these internal representations to affect behaviour. They won't buy until they've amassed enough internal representations. So that they can demonstrate the product in their mind. This builds desire for your product/service.
  2. With your ads, make it easy for customers to act on them and then ask for action.
  3. Unless you display how you've differentiated yourself from your competition, you are like a bag of salt in a warehouse full of them. You're no different to the others, you're a commodity. Tell them why you're great. Before this ensure your product/ service is one of excellent quality. Be special. Your positioning should reflect what's true about you. Even if you think up a great USP, become that usp. What you say, should align with what you do and who you are. Become what you say.
  4. Position your offer as well. Make it specifically unique (Puts clear not vague pictures in your head). To stand out of the crowd, say something different and be different to the competition.
  5. Authority figures have a great deal of credibility. Market yourself as an authority in the field. Regard yourself as someone who has a mountain of valuable information to share with others. Or you're doomed. Make sure what you know is available to the public in as many forms as possible.
  6. Power your ads with pictures. They help a lot.
  7. Talk to them as a human being.
I tried to submit a 1:30 minute proposal today only to find out the job closed, don't be like me guys. BSuperman to the rescue! Make a framework of how you do everything (Processes) so that even a monkey can emulate the success you get easily. It helps save you time.

When I pitched to one of the consultants on the benefits of an interview, this is how he responded-

"I already do so much of this. It's a core strategy that I have a whole department dedicated to. "

Which essentially means the offer was relatively not worth his time. I'm sure there's a way to reformat it for just a nice little discussion on their story.

Need to revise strategies soon.

In that blackout yesterday, it made me think of a lot of things.

(30 minutes) Send in 3 Upwork proposals ✅

(20 minutes) Write blog article ✅

(20 minutes) Read 20 pages of cashvertising and practiced it in the real world ✅

I was money chasing. Pain. On my mind was the constant reminder of the $1k challenge I had set for myself at the beginning of this program, and the more my actions led to no results, the more I was chasing the cat.

I didn't even realise it before. So after that day I decided, to forget the 1K goal and replaced it with this...

Make 100 people smile by giving them value.

That's what I want to focus on for the remainder of this challenge.

I've lost all my Upwork connects (No responses).
Had nobody registered for an interview.

But when I made the switch.

I connected a real estate agent who needed a website.

To someone who makes these websites. This is the first time I can say, I've offered value like that, and I'm proud of that.

From this same person who I helped, he told me he reached out to others and they said they were all busy. This tells me I need to make the offer worthwhile to the interviewees.

He also recommended me someone who would be great to interview. I've reached out to that person on his behalf, and will hopefully have someone to interview for next week.

In my last Upwork proposals, I received one response out of three. I haven't received a response in over a week probably.

Screenshot 2021-07-17 at 12.58.38 PM.png
My friend says it's a glitch Upwork even sent something like this. Well, it's a response and I'm glad I got any response so now I know I need to improve my profile and proposal.

This is now a big part of my current vision.Kickoff - Day 2 TC.png

At least that's what it looks like to me XD

Promoted As Head Writer

(2:30 hours) Studied LexDeville's Upwork proposal guide here- ✅

(30 minutes) Sent a personalised message to a consultant ✅

For the consultant, when I really decided to really understand her and craft a message she couldn't ignore, she went ahead and viewed my profile. Something, she never did before when I sent her some requests for an interview. But then again, maybe she just went to my profile to cut the connection XD

( That's my fault because I might have bombarded her with too many messages. Lesson learned).

I watched Lex's guide and it was brilliant. The man spends a whole hour crafting a proposal that gets the client's attention and provides value!

Value always trumps quantity long term. So instead of now sending 30-infinity proposals with no response, you can put in the work and get a response in like 4 proposals. That teaches me that Effort-Results is exponential. (Tested it yesterday, no response yet but the client hasn't interviewed anyone yet).

HeartBeat. I got hired as the head writer of a writing project from BSuperman!

40 COOKIES PER ARTICLE PER WEEK for a month recurring. God-send. And part of it was due to overdelivering. That's insane! Maybe it's because it's my first time earning like this.

He gets to focus on riding bigger fish in the sea, and I can share with him on the table of value!

Now I can hire someone else later down the line to accomplish the task or use it for training other writers. Who knows.

It's a step nonetheless I am incredibly grateful for.

More cereal! I'm kidding.

Hired on Upwork- Landing Page Copy

It finally happened!

(40 minutes) Watch Lex Deville’s videos on Upwork proposals ✅

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdQ3RU-P9OM

This is the video I used that got a response.

(40 minutes) Study how to get more interviews from people who’ve done it before. ✅

(1 hour) Send in 2 Upwork proposals ✅

I wanted to treat the proposals like it was a school course in order to succeed. So I wrote down all I could recall from watching Lex's videos to follow the principles....

And it finally paid off.

I applied to two jobs yesterday and received a response from one. I was baffled, it worked!

Panic.

I went into the room trying to display confidence where I was intensely nervous I would loose the client, he had interviewed me and someone else. He was a little cautious, but we finally struck a deal.

I was going to start work on immediately at first. But @BlackSuperman had a bad experience with that before, so I instead requested a contract to begin.

It's a low offer. I charged $20 for it when it was $10, but it's still worth it since he said he has even more work for me (Which I'm definitely going to charge more for). This adds another potential review and to my experience.

This would also be my first official paid copy project so why not celebrate with a huge effort ;)

I got hired for an Amazon course website! Like 4 landing pages, though it was for $20 I need to make sure I overdeliver.

Thanks to @Black_Dragon43, Bsuperman and @Miketing as well! They helped guide me on templating the actual proposal reducing the total time to about 20-30 minutes in writing it. And also writing a You-Focused proposal when I was unintentionally writing a me-focused proposal.

(20 minutes) Find out how to write website copy ✅

(4:30 hours) Copy for client's site

(10 minutes) Get back to consultant with an email to interview them ✅

I don't know how. But a 433 home page ended up costing me 4:30 hours to write copy for XD. At $4.

I hope I did a good job. I know it still has a way to go.

Was thinking of charging extra for the remaining 5 pages, and scale it to $20 for 150 words.

Do you think I should? Or should I just finish the job at the current rate and be happy with the experience?

Also a one man company reached out to me to email them for an interview, looking forward to it.

UPDATE: The client shared his story how he was in corporate for 15 years. Covid led him to quit and start an Amazon business that rakes in 5 figures monthly. And he did it all in one year. Quite inspirational to me.

His advice was to roll with successful waves and things that are already working so success comes in quicker and is more assured.

(2 hours) Refining website copy for client ✅

Went out today just to relax with friends. Really helped relieve me mentally. Now unto the action...

I'm Lagging on the interviews XD. I Should have released one Wednesday, so I have to really hustle for one tomorrow *cry*.

Working on the client's website copy for the home page. Refining it makes it to look a lot better and I'm starting to be more proud of it.

He wants quality over time. I told him it's only fair to charge more for the next page since I'm taking hours to do it over $4. He agreed.

(1 hour) Email 5 consultants for an interview ✅
(3 hours) Edit web copy for client ✅

Haha, just when I thought I was done the client pulled me back in. I had to learn how to design a web page to add copy too so level up!

There's an old saying, "You get qualified by performing the role." So I'm just learning along the way.

The client looked over my copy and sentenced it to the copy underworld,

"There is one thing missing in this copy. No pain points."

No pains= No sales!

Which means useless copy! XD

I quickly poured over the net to find pain points on forums, socials and other competitor sites that sell the same product (Should have started here).

I Created a list of them all and plan to sprinkle them in the text. Sell benefits, one should never forget that.

it's good to overdeliver, I've never seen it go wrong. it's my first official copy job after all as well. I have some conflicts wether I should charge $75 for each of the next pages.

But in the grand scheme of things, I'm sure it matters none.

Day 54

(1 hour) Email 5 consultants for an interview ✅
(3 hours) Edit web copy for client ✅

Haha, just when I thought I was done the client pulled me back in. I had to learn how to design a web page to add copy too so level up!

There's an old saying, "You get qualified by performing the role." So I'm just learning along the way.

The client looked over my copy and sentenced it to the copy underworld,

"There is one thing missing in this copy. No pain points."

No pains= No sales!

Which means useless copy! XD

Day 55
Flow

(20 minutes) Connect with 20 consultants for an interview ✅

(3 hour) Copy suggestions for site ✅

It took some time, but now I and the client are in sync.

Hopefully we can finish tomorrow or the day after.

He finally grasped I knew next to nothing about designing a website XD or I didn't quite capture what he wanted me to do exactly on that turf.

Now that he's doing all the design. I can focus on writing copy that *hopefully gets results from him. He just asks for suggestions now.

A lot happened. But we're over the storm. Whatever happens from here on out, if I'm going out, I want to do it with him smiling at the end (A bad review for my second job won't be pretty XD).

I want to give them awesome work, get a glowing testimonial and move on with the experience earned. I think It would be best for the both of us.

PLEASE

If you've never freelanced in copy before...

You and your client need to sit down and get 100% clear on the key elements of the piece that you’ll be creating. Because not doing this, has seriously delayed finishing this project.

You need to be clear on the benefit to the consumer, who the target audience is, what they want and need, what your client’s goal is for the project, what they want the target audience to do, where the target audience has been in the customer journey before this, where they’re going afterward, what their objections to taking the action might be, how those objections can be overcome, what information the target audience needs about your client… And so on.

You need to be clear on the scope of the project—EXACTLY what it entails. (Got this from a source somewhere).

If not, you're throwing darts in the dark, so you and the client won't even know what's a bullseye.

P.S. Lol, today was the day when I should have had all the solutions for the interviews. Little did he know then this would be more than a month project.

Ok dude. I don't know who you are. Just read your first and last page of your thread and I am blown with the energy's nd efforts you are putting.
You are not stuck in analysis or thinking I don't know enough.
You are just bulldozing everything with your efforts. Loved it.

Shall I challenge myself too? O don't know I have your kind of energy but I am pumped up to do it.

Let me start from tomorrow.

Haha, thanks man! I wish I could feel this energy myself XD

Just a man who loves his cereal ;)

I'd say go for it! But I'm definitely biased, and since I haven't reached and reflected on the program yet might have a limited scope.

I do recommend having a grand plan before starting it though if you want to (You might not need it).

I don't think I would have done all of this properly without Steve's guidance in the beginning.

In any case, looking forward to how you'll help others!

(2 hours) Edit web copy and send suggestions, dealing with client side issues ✅

Things were going so well with the client until I stumbled on his about page. The photo he used on it (An exact replica mind you with just the blue background edited out) led to someone with a completely different name to him. Fine.

The Biographies didn't sync though, like at all. One was a consultant who became an amazon seller, the other was a psychologist who taught 1000's of performers in music, at schools like Juilliard, Colburn, New World Symphony and spoke at a T.E.D talk... I'm not even joking XD

Not once, did the two Bios sync at all.

I was curious. We never actually had a video call. So I asked him if that man was him, since I found a similar man online.

I waited for a response.

Nothing. He didn't reply. He didn't clarify.

He could have said it was a placeholder image, but nothing.

Oh Oh.

I should have trusted my instincts in the beginning to not take the job, but because it was my first response in weeks, I made a bad decision.

This might affect my job score. Or so I thought.

Apparently,

"Contracts, where some payment has been made but that end without feedback, whether open or closed, do not negatively affect your JSS at all unless you have a significant percentage of such contracts."

Maybe @Lex DeVille or any other experienced freelancer can chip in on if this is really true.

I have sent the page for him to review and he's placed the $5 in Escrow.

If all goes well and it arrives to me in the next 11 days, it should allow my job score to not be affected. I really hope.

If he doesn't respond by tomorrow I'm leaving it be. And might flag him up for future freelancers.

Lessons:
1) Trust your instincts.
2) If client doesn't want to have a video call, and wants you to work basically for free run.
3) If a review says something starkly bad about them. Think about it.

Well it was my first official job anyway, so learning now for the future.

It won't affect your JSS to have a client who doesn't leave feedback. Maybe if you have a bunch of them in a row, but probably not.

I didn't read this whole thread, but I was thinking a couple of things while skimming through it. Hopefully, this sounds as positive as I intend it to be. :)

1. Time
How much time do you spend writing these posts that could be better spent elsewhere?

2. Outreach
What use is sending X amount of outreach messages per day? Whether proposals or LinkedIn messages, it doesn't make sense when your goal is $1,000/mo. You only need one client to earn that much. So it makes more sense to spend all of your time searching for that one client and then crafting the greatest proposal you've ever written to make sure you get a response.

3. Approach
How can you master an outreach method when you're jumping back and forth? Stick with Upwork...or spend time and effort on LinkedIn. Trying to do both splits your time. Plus, they require different approaches. Become a master at one of them and you will make a lot more than $1,000/mo.

4. Length
Doesn't always equal strength, despite what direct-response copywriters like Drew Whitman say. This is especially true for Upwork proposals.

5. Settling
Once you fix 2, 3, and 4 if you're writing long proposals, then stop settling for low-paying gigs. Increase your Upwork rates and only take clients when it is a 1000% perfect fit for your skills and interests. To quote Roy Kent from the new Ted Lasso episode...

F*cking hell. ... You deserve someone who makes you feel like you've been struck by F*cking lightning. Don't you dare settle for fine. ... Not that it's any of my business.

Clients are a dime a dozen. There are more clients on Upwork than ever. You need one client that is a perfect fit for you to reach your goal. Someone you are 1000% sure you can help. You will know it when you find them just by reading their job post.

6. Feedback & Reviews
Don't be the freelancer who uses these to get revenge on clients. It will affect you when future clients read what you said about past clients.

Haha, I know it's all love ;)

1. Time
About 5-10 minutes. True true. From now on, I suppose I'll just add bullets for work done so I have more time to do more things.

2. Outreach
This is solid! I didn't even think about that, likely due to my limiting beliefs where I feel if I aim that high I'll be disappointed.

Noted: Spend time looking for that one client that will help me reach my goals supported by the mathematics. Craft the greatest proposal I've written to ensure I get a response.

3. Approach
So the reason I did that was to find a problem for a CENTS business through interviews.

But another forum member also pointed out to me to focus on mastering freelancing and then to do that one later.

With both your inputs, and thinking about it for a while. I've decided it be best to drop it for now, and come back later funding a business idea when I have the much needed capital.

Focus on Upwork only and master it.

4. Length
Ah, got it. Read cashvertising and assumed it to be true, should always be questioning my assumptions.

5. Settling

Mm, increase my Upwork rates and only take clients when it's a 1000% help for them, fits my interests and skills.

Won't I need to take on some lower priced jobs to get an understanding of the skills, get testimonials and a more varied portfolio though?

6. Feedback

Oh true. Will definitely be avoiding that then.

Thank you so much Lex! This is a big eye opener that has probably saved me at least a few months if not years of testing XD
