MJ and other successful people really kicked my a$$ in terms of what I am willing to do to and need to do to be successful. I need to be honest with myself and understand that I have probably read less then 30 books in my life. And im 25. That is really scary :s. So I just ordered 10 topical books from experts in the fields that I am interested in running a business in, so that I can read them in the coming few months. I will still work on my technical skills as I should, but I think that reading will pay more dividends longterm, more so than skill, because skill can be outsourced easily. Skill has a low barrier of entry. Expertise has a high level of entry. Super inspired to read these books, and if any of them haven't been reviewed here yet I will add one, using the review template.

This post is just a quick reminder for me and anyone that needs it to go and READ. Super excited to watch my mind shape into something else. I want to be better, I want to do better.

Thanks all!

Reading is great! I'm a big reader myself.

Just be careful: don't mistake reading for working towards your goal.
If you want to make real progress go out there, start something and a fail a few times. You will learn a ton more, I promise ;-)

There's a very clear line between reading as ACTION FAKING and reading for real improvement. If all you do is read and critique others, you're action faking. If you have a knowledge gap that you are fixing so you can move on, you're on the right track. Just be careful.

Thank you for the based response, i appreciate it. I am not so much closing the gap as I am expanding and opening my thoughts to be able to provide and bring more value and awareness to what I do. I want to position myself as a knowledgeable expert, and i want to give people this feeling by being able to think and ask questions at a higher level. And for that I really feel like i have to study the work and books of successful people in this field. It's just due diligence reading. It's reading the classics in order to save time and not try and recreate the wheel by myself.

I want to learn from my mistakes, but I want my mistakes to be of a higher quality off the bat, if you know what i mean.

I sense some humor and sarcasm here ;).
My intention is for my new reading program, to supplement my PROCESS, and allow me to take better actions.

I could read 17, 27 or 47 books. I expect no secret. I only expect to learn from the wisdom of a lifetime of thinking and practice of the authors. I mean, look at what 1 book, did to all of us right? It is the result of a single book that I am now frequenting this forum in the search for knowledge, contributing and writing comments and just generally surrounding myself with new people, new thinking, new stories, new paradigms. How much more of my potential am I missing out on by not reading even more?

I am currently reading 7 habits of highly effective people by Covey.

But my current to do reading list includes:

- TFL
- Unscripted @MJ DeMarco
(I listened to audio versions of these, but I placed my order for physical copies to support the forum :). I would like to read them again, at my own pace, to really get the message through and deepen my thought on entrepreneurialship.)

- 7 strategies for wealth and happiness by Jim Rohn
- This is marketing by Seth Godin
- Steal like an artist by Austin Kleon
- The little white book of SEO by @SEOguy ;)
- Start with why by Sinek Simon
- Creative Strategy and the business of design by David Douglass
- The win without pitching manifesto by Blair Enns

I'm going through something similar. Still on the slowlane, I'm pursuing new skills to freelance and then open up a bussiness.

If I could make a sugestion, it would be pace!

Your brain takes time to absorb new knowledges. So learning must be, like anything else, a process. I sugest fixing a certain number of pages, say 5 or 10 per day, and them writting the key aspects of what you just read.

It takes more time to read, but to me, it allows me to learn much better!

And also, reading everyday allows you to really read lots of books. 10 pages a day, in 30 days, you can read a 300 page book. This adds up to 12 books a year!
