Does anyone know any credible books/sources on selling digital products online?

Marketing, social media, advertising

I have tested many online methods while spending close to a thousand bucks altogether on Facebook Ads and Google Ads with no success. I'm looking for a good book/source that isn't a 20 chapter sales pitch in disguise in order to try and sell you into their backend funnel, expensive webinar or coaching program.

What are you selling?

On the inside there’s threads by @Lex DeVille on selling courses on Udemy, and @MTF on selling books on Amazon.

@Fox has/is selling a course(s). I’ve got a course and paid email newsletter, and progress threads for both.

@AllenCrawley has a thread on the inside about email marketing.

There’s a short thread about “Kajabi vs Teachable”.

There’s quite a few threads about YouTube.

I’m sure there’s other progress threads in here, and many short courses on Udemy.

...

Were you getting email signups from your ads, or going straight to a salespage?

What’s the price point for your digital product?

...

To sell a course, maybe check out the Thinkific, Teachable, and Kajabi sites. Since they provide platforms for course creators, maybe they have free courses to help people sell courses?

...

GrahamCochrane.com has some reasonable podcasts on it, and if nothing else you can at least study how he goes about marketing his course.

What I like about him is that he’s built a business selling courses for audio production first, and is now branching out into teaching people how to sell courses.

You may find his funnel is exactly what you are trying to avoid, but his podcasts do have some insights.

Me personally, I’m not going to take any courses or read any books.

I have digital products that can help people do XYZ. I’ve made sales to people who already know, like, and trust me. Now I just need to figure out how to get people to know, like, and trust me at scale, and then present my current products to them.

I’m figuring this out as I go along.

My advice to anyone who wants to sell their first course would be to:
  1. Help people first, in forums and/or Facebook groups.
  2. Get better at helping people. Watch where you repeat yourself over and over. Figure out WHY it’s such a common problem too.
  3. Get to Skype/Zoom calls and help people some more, for free.
  4. Wait till people ask you for a course or more help on XYZ. When they start asking for it then you have started to become an authority on XYZ in their eyes.
  5. “Release” your course to them. Don’t “launch” ffs.
  6. If people buy, then figure out how to scale.

Post up what you are selling and let us test the funnel. More context here would be useful to give you feedback.

I just ordered Robert Bly's "The Digital Marketing Handbook" and "The New Email Revolution" which could be of use to you.

Do as Andy says.

Works.

More effort?

Takes some time to push things along?

Yes.

But works.

Here’s what’s has been working for me:

Step 1:

Create a opt-in to collect emails.

Step 2: Send a lead magnet in exchange for emails

Step 3: Email daily using infotainment emails.

Got this from Ben Settle.

Simple but works.

Hope this helps.

I'm selling an online course on a platform called Builderall which is very similar to Thinkific and Teachable. I already got a lot of emails from people who signed up and created a free trial account but nobody pulled the trigger on buying. Anyways, I really appreciate the time you took in your reply. It's very informative. Now it's time for me to go back to testing and applying these new methods.
