Hi guys, I am so excited to find a forum that is completely off fb. I stumbled on this one while reading up on bro marketing. Lots of good stuff so far.

Anyway, I’m a 29 year old mom of four and a former special education teacher. I quit teaching last year. I started out my teaching career with passion and idealism, and I’m sure you can guess the rest.

Since then I’ve been Dipping heavily into my savings. When I quit, I planned to flesh out my parenting website and use it to both support other parents and support my family. I studied business, affiliate marketing, ebook creation, etc and pretty much every parenting methodology and mindfulness practice out there.

Unfortunately I then ran into huge health issues. I won’t detail them here but I was barely able to work for a few months, and meanwhile the bills needed to get paid. So my bank accounts need topping up and my business is nowhere near profitable.

I won’t be returning to my teaching job. That would be a disaster for my emotional health. Instead I’m taking a content marketing course and plan to freelance in the b2b space.

This feels like a real setback. Sure, freelancing beats working for my soul sucking employers. But I truly believe in my budding little business and I hate having to take this step back.

Anyway, I’m going to keep working at it in whatever time I can spare. And meanwhile I’ll be lurking around these forums.

I was tempted to post a few times but held back. Do I get my 2c if I’m only getting started, and am actually going in the wrong direction right now?

Hello 'Here'

Good and brave to share your story! I'm not so long on this forum also, looking wat is suitable etc. The books from MJ DeMarco changed my view om doing business.

You know we have something in common? I'm a Pedagogue and specialized in the field of Autism / special needs. Wrote many (e) books. My latest ' Grip on Gaming' , a book on how to deal with our gaming kid, is doing very well in the Netherlands and Belgium. I'm know getting information my goal is to translate and bringing it to the US.

Keep up the good work.. But your leaving special needs totally? Maybe you have knowledge you can share / sell.

Good luck and greetings from the Netherlands.

Andre

Thanks for your reply!

I worked with kids with high incidence disabilities such as adhd, learning disorders, and anxiety. I’m using my expertise to create my business, where I’ll teach parents to work with their own kids. So I don’t think of myself as throwing it all away.

But actual teaching just isn’t for me anymore. Not now. Maybe someday I’ll recover from the burnout and find a job in a supportive environment.

And thank you for the greetings from the Netherlands. I almost never interact with non-native English speakers, so it’s a treat.

As for translating your book, have you considered using babelcube? I’ve heard good reviews.

I gonna be working with a real translator. So I really know it is OK. I take this step very seriously. I'm also looking for people who can help me publish and distribute.

Welcome to the forum Here. Always remember the Fastlane is about process not events. Each of our journeys is different and the only wrong journey is when we quit. Glad you are on the mend and able to take control of your life again. Looking forward to learning of your progress as you fell willing to share.

Welcome Here! I was reading a Patricia Cornwell novel (Quantum) and the main protagonist's mother lesson plans for all things 'Space.' I'd never heard of that market before this, but it sounds fascinating. I don't know if teachers would/do buy them, but home schoolers would breakdown the door for some intelligent pre-packaged lesson modules. Another example of how you could pivot from teaching and still impact and change young people's lives.

As to the novel, it was hard for me to get into it for a long time until I got that it was written in her voice which is real scattered and methodical all at once. I learned a lot about Nasa while solving mysteries.

Thanks for the encouragement! I do feel incredibly grateful for getting my life back. Still, it hurts to think about my lack of progress. Lucky I read all those self help books. They help me to keep positive.

True that. I don’t think there’s much of an audience among the homeschoolers. There seems to be a ton of stuff being marketed to them already, plus they all seem to be bloggers and are busy selling to each other. But I recently bought “the” teacherpreneur course, which is all about selling on teachers pay teachers. I don’t see that becoming a full time income, but it sounds like a good side gig.
