Anyone who thinks Social Media has ruined lives needs to read The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson.

In short - you have a choice. You always have a choice.

The only reason I still use Facebook is to reach my audience. Otherwise, I wouldn't be on there.

Of course, it's a great advertising medium to reach millions. Another reason why I'm still there.

Other than that, I don't post much.

This pretty much sums up why -- it's one big carefully curated facade.

I fear for young folks who use Facebook / Instagram / et. al. as a gauge to compare their lives to others. Expectation and comparison is path to perpetual misery. If I spend one hour on Facebook, even I would end up feeling inadequate, not fit enough, not well-traveled enough, not successful enough, and not liked enough, blah blah.

Whats sad is that I am actually hearing that youngsters are making decisions based upon how certain activities will look when posted to social media. They're more concerned with having people *think* they're having fun than actually having it.

Be aware people.
I'll have to say that Facebook, like many other things can be used as a tool. I make sure I take the time to choose which type of content appear on my wall and I limit my friends list on Facebook. I purge every once in a while to make sure I don't have useless people generating useless stuff in my life on Facebook, I don't care if you're family; if your post don't contribute to the bettterment of my life, we just can't be Facebook friends. I'll sometimes entertain family and "friends" in real life because there are times I'm in a situation where I need to but not on social media, if I don't click with someone, we can't be friends. I only keep the people that inspire me and actually push me to physically be better in real life even if they're only doing that through social media.

Saying social media is evil is like saying guns are responsible for murder.

social medias work because of the very nature of the masses

--- > wich is endorsing absurdity and waste of time

same thing with cellphones

the pareto principle says that 80 % of what is said worldwide with cell phones is 100 % BS

ask the NSA, they will probably admit that 80 % of the communications coming from cell phones is 100 % BS

something like " honey, buy toilet paper please "

which means that 80 % of the data stored in the NSA data center in Utah is a waste of time and money

--- > the stupidity of the masses

analysing the stupidity of the masses costs billions of dollars with a B

Only if it is government mandated as it adds to the nanny state. If you offer the choice, then I don't think there'd be much push back.

And such a device/app would definitely be newsworthy.

Now, wouldn't such a device be as simple as an app that detects g-force movement beyond walking? When it does, it blanks out the screen.
I actually already looked into making this device for cars and looked through regulations and found federal laws regulating this. Didn’t feel like cracking into it more just yet. As I currently HATE drivers and cellphones it’s a pandemic just being ignored. Talk about not watching where you’re driving or your surroundings. Jammer Enforcement

Facebook is only good for connecting with people you haven't seen in years (advertising aside).

It's hilarious how chicks post picture of themselves so their girl friends can tell them how beautiful they are, even though they're unsightly.

If you were a new entrepreneur, no product or service yet, what would you use social media for?

I absolutely would use it. Even with no product.

I would use it to build an audience, probably would start on YouTube and IG.

Once you have an audience, it's much easier to launch, assuming your audience matches your product/service.

It is.It really is.
I was shocked myself.
This shows two problems with the internet.
(a) How incomprehensibly screwed up in the head it's making some people
(b) It brings that to our attention. It's not enough to not watch the news anymore; because the internet will indirectly filter through specifically the most messed up things anyway.

Hey MJ. If you were a new entrepreneur, no product or service yet, what would you use social media for? If at all
What MJ said. Plus... if you start to build a following then you could figure out what products/services they’d buy, if at all.

Consider using Facebook groups (and forums) as places to find people talking about needs.

I absolutely would use it. Even with no product.

I would use it to build an audience, probably would start on YouTube and IG.

Once you have an audience, it's much easier to launch, assuming your audience matches your product/service.

Curious why you’d start with YouTube and IG and not include Facebook in that. (My gut tells me to use YT and IG if posting content, and FB groups for learning about what drives similar people - and a quick way to find and help them.)

I would include FB in that, probably FB groups. But YT probably would be my starting point.

Oh and we can't forget the soon-to-be-convicted-felons so swept up by gaining popularity for live feeding their crimes - which, of course someone fails to tell them WILL be used as evidence in the court to convict them of the crimes they carry out.

...but I digress - I do agree it is a great tool for building business and using it for opportune feedback where Action, Assessment and Adjustment is concerned, since most customers would mostly be on some SM platform, but solely for such.

I disconnected ALL my personal SM platforms back in 2016 - specifically when I recognised I didn't require validation from strangers on the net for doing regular, supposedly personal and human things; however, as I became more focused in business, I use it as an essential tool to connect with and obtain feedback about what my customers require and the best ways to deliver these requirements to them.

I see it as a valuable tool for those business purposes mentioned, and like any tool, e.g. A hammer - it can be used to build remarkable things; however, if misused, can become a murder weapon, thus, SM, when utilised in the most effective way, can drive fruitful success in our pockets and amidst our customer-base.

Just my 2cents!

I recently saw two kids on the playground, both hypnotized by their smartphones. Both might have been as well at home by themselves as they didn't need either the friend nor the playground. Addiction starts early. Imagine them as adults...

Just yesterday I saw where my friends and a large group of their friends are on a cruise. They had stopped at some island and were having a 1 handed water balloon toss.... all caught LIVE on Facebook. The whole process of them getting to the boat, on the boat and just about the whole time they are on the boat is LIVE on Facebook. My only thought was...... WHY?

They have plenty of money but I'd figure that's also costing a pretty penny to be posting LIVE all the time. So in reality, the cartoon above is not really a cartoon. I saw it happening LIVE on Facebook just yesterday :)

This is still some of the sickest shit I've ever seen.

Our generation is going to need to make new adjectives, just to adequately describe how f*cked up we are.

I feel like I'm witnessing a zombie pandemic and screaming my head off, "Zombie! Zombie! STOP! You guys are all infected and you don't know it !!"

Instead of listening, the infected pulls out their smartphone and Instagrams a recording of me screaming "ZOMBIE!"

A few minutes ago I came very close to posting the link to several of them doing the macarana on a little sight seeing boat. I'm sure the other passengers were feeling excited that they were kind of messing up the tour. But yes, I watched the whole thing since there were females in bikinis :innocent: :halo:
