Young girl quits social media, calls it all "contrived" and orchestrated BS despite having 1/2 million followers.

Pretty impressive for a young lady to come to such a realization.

lol

i remember when this video first came out and everyone so excited to share it on their newsfeed - to show off of course, how deep and intellectual they all were... the irony.
and he was talking about them lol and they are still doing it.

This is funny and sad at the same time.

Young people are actually training their faces to look good on their selfies. I can't exactly tell how, because I always look like a dork on photo. The funniest moments are when you see those girls posing in real life with their peace signs (What does it even mean? Peace? Really?), thousands of face muscles strained, going for that perfect hyperfiltered pic, fishing for likes.

Doesn't matter who likes it, even they're old creepy perverts.

Because a like is a like is a like.

There's that selfiegirl in my gym that actually has tattooed her name on her back. Her own name.

I enjoy using facebook as it allows me to connect with my friends via the Messenger app. I don't have to get anybodys phone number anymore as I can just look them up or ring them on facebook. It also allows me to be invited to different events that my friends are hosting in the area sometimes they can have massive invitation lists and I would be left out if I wasn't on facebook. For example my final year of highschool graduation was organised entirely by messenger and facebook events.

Lol. The ad is narrated in a way that it looks so serious that you wont even know its an ad.

I just read a book last week called [HASHTAG]#askgaryvee[/HASHTAG] and he says that due to the time and attention people give in social media we should all consider businesses as a media company. We need to write and produce content like how NatGeo makes engaging TV shows. And other mass communication media is losing ROI due to the same.

He says that this is the golden era of Facebook ads just like how it used to be back in early 2000 for Google Adwords. And he is spending a lot of money in his media company for facebook dark posts as well.

Lastly he said that the next decade is going to be about influencer marketing and wearable computers/smart phones and that all of us should jump into that opportunity as quickly as possible.

You can read my notes if you want - http://www.evernote.com/l/Armi1TDpRBZOmJ0K1uNZn_lPuhtFkgAKNvI/ (The notes has like 5% value compared to the book because i only focused on things that are important for me)

i quit using it and several other people I know are done with it and rarely use it

after the initial excitement of being connected with people, that all wears away after a few years. In a way, it's a bit of a surrogate for having and doing real things with people in real life. ALso, its a time sucker- I can't tell you how much more productive I've been not having it activated and being focused on muself. I also realize its a way for people to vent political frustration, etc but nothing ever gets done. I also realize many businesses and people trying to be famous try using it to sell you their message and to sit there like a good sheep is sad. That's really what facebook is, a way for people to prey on your with THEIR message in the end. As people awaken they will turn it off. Most people are lucky to have a few good friends in their real life. I see facebook as truly connecting people in a real way as very low %. However it is really good at causing division and hate and argument online aka dividing people PS- Facebook is being sued for 1 billion for being a gateway for palestinian terror now.

Facebooks isn't inherently a joke or bad. It's a great way to keep up with friends and family and organize events as well as using it to grow a business.

The problem isn't facebook, it's the users. People begin judging their own lives from others, use it to vent their frustrations (as opposed to someone they know in real life), and many become addicted to it using it for a large portion of their life each day.

I have thousands of friends on facebook and used to use it often. One day I realized how much time I was wasting and what it was making me miss out on -- real connections, real progress with goals, etc. Once the time is gone, it's gone. I can't make it up somehow.

Now I still use it but limit my time on it to a few minutes every now again when I'm waiting in line usually somewhere. When I'm with friends I may pull it up to show a funny video I posted but I never scroll through it when I have friends sitting across from me.

Ultimately it's a free form of entertainment that's addictive which is why it's become so successful.

So long as you can manage it in small moderation it's great, once you start using it as a free form of entertainment as opposed to keeping up with friends, is when it becomes a problem.

At that point it's basically the same thing as playing video games or watching TV for long periods of time each day. Just like with these, keep the time spent to a minimum.

Tricky, tricky questions...

Would I laugh my a$$ off after watching him doing his thing?

Yes, I definately would.

Would I trip his legs to see him get (b)eaten by the zombies he just woke up?

Yeah, probably.

Slowlaners live on social media. Fastlaners sell on social media.

Long may it continue.
Very much so..

I've given social media a wide berth for a long time now - but I do use it more and more lately that said because amongst all the commercialism of social media, I do feel passionately about showing people (in particular my nieces and nephews) who are glued to it that there is stuff out there to be happy about and that rather than being trapped in a crappy day by sharing it nonsensically, there is a world beyond their fingertips they just have to go looking for it..

I love hearing 'I saw your posts and decided to make a change' much more than I'll ever love reading 'nice car', 'wish I was on that holiday' etc..

FB is my bread and butter for social media. I don't care about Twitter, Snapchat, Insta etc.

I stopped using it for anything more than sales when I found out that FB manipulated news feeds (without the user's knowledge) to try and invoke certain emotions. Full
This was more than just changing the order in which posts appear, posts were inserted or removed based on the language used, to yield a negative response, positive posts are removed and negative ones were inserted.
Not to mention the community... Make no mistake, facebook is a facade of your life. At least, that's how people tend to use it. A tool for creating an image of yourself - "look at me, compare yourself to me, compete with me. I have friends, money, family, I'm fulfilled. Everything is great, even if it's not"
You'll never find much dirty laundry on facebook. It's there, just swept under the rug.

There is nothing productive to be accomplished on Facebook. At least I learn on TFF.

The news feed on Facebook is the worst. I got Facebook back only to delete it a couple of weeks later. I can't be bothered with seeing "murder, murder, murder" all day - Facebook makes it seem like a much bigger deal than it really is. With seven billion people in the world, it's bound to happen somewhere. It's akin to reporting that a man saved someone from a heart attack using CPR. Happens every day, NEVER gets reported. And it shouldn't, because we should be performing good deeds like this anyway, anyday. But I digress...

I've never had violence occur near me, yet the brain can get tricked into thinking you live in a dangerous area. Watching the news may rank among the most unproductive activities ever: a close competitor being throwing scat at people.

There are some interesting groups on there but I use it for ads only now. I've even added the newsfeed blocker on Chrome to avoid distractions. I like the fact people spend hours on FB. Without any brain fart activity, we'd have no data and no sales.

Instagram, though - everyone's using Instagram. People ask me, "Do you have Instagram?" Not, "Do you have Facebook?"

Because they assume you do, the same way they assume you have a phone number.

I use IG but FB is still the undisputed champ for me. We can scale out to millions easily.

I'm wanting more social media use. More hours = more data that we can buy and sell to so I have no problem with it.
