This is just a little pre-story. If you don't want to read it, just scroll down to where it says THE BUSINESS IDEA.

How this idea spawned?

Quite simply, really. I have a pain point. A really bad one. And if I'm having it, it's a good bet that many are as well.

I lost my job October 15th. I was there almost ten years. I was full-time (40 hours), made $13.77 an hour, along with health and dental benefits.

I landed a job two weeks ago, so that I could get off of the unemployment benefits, and make a little more money.

I am now part-time, getting somewhere between 25 and 31 hours, and I'm making $10 an hour, with no benefits.

Quite a difference indeed.

Indeed.com. I didn't appreciate it years ago, but I think it is an excellent job search engine. However, it is not Indeed that is the problem. It is the jobs, period.

The quality of jobs today sucks beyond belief. Majorly. I've still been actively looking for work, because this new job I have isn't going to cut it. It's unbelievable the amount of things most of these employers want you to do, and how very little they are willing to compensate you for it.

It got me thinking to what MJ said in one of his books. "I got a Bachelor's Degree so I could take a job that I could get straight out of High School?"

I actually found a job that is willing to pay you $15 an hour for the work you'll do, but one of the requirements is to have a Bachelor's Degree. Now I only have an Associates, but this is a total joke.

The workforce in this country (U.S.) is despicable. The quality of jobs and the pay are just downright awful.

Now, I agree with the whole entrepreneur mindset. I am fully aware of it, and have been applying it. Provide value, put others first, solve problems and needs, forget about the money. I totally agree with this mindset, and I have been applying it. However, before you can get a business system off the ground, YOU DO NEED money coming in to pay your bills. You need your car right? If you don't pay the car payment, they take away your car. If you don't pay your rent, you lose your home. With no money, you can't feed yourself and have good hygene.

THE BUSINESS IDEA

Here is my business idea:

I want to create a place called The Work Center.

The Details:

What is this Work Center you ask?

It is a new type of business system - a work system. Free from all of the typical corporate/business bureaucracy, politics, and general bullshit.

Companies can use us to have work done for them, and at the Work Center is where ANYONE can APPLY for WORK.

The system lets you choose your shift. You get to choose the day, the shift range, and the type of work to be performed. You CHOOSE the shift range when you get there, so there is NO SUCH THING AS BEING LATE! You decide the hours you want to work. However, if you leave before your shift ends (since you chose that shift range), you simply don't get paid for the remainder of your shift. There are no consequences. People need the money, and money comes from working, so there will always be people to perform the work that is required. You only get paid for what you work. So, there is no such thing as being late, or getting fired for leaving early. You simply have to make your punches in the system.

The pay depends on the work performed, HOWEVER, you are able to acquire new skills and perform those jobs that require those unique skills.

RESPECT is of the essence. No more corporate sleaze mentality of treating employees like dirt. Respect is given and respect is earned, for both parties. You can't get "FIRED", since getting FIRED doesn't exist anymore. There is a code of ethics. If you violate the code of ethics, you can be asked to leave for the day. Anything beyond the code of ethics simply falls into the law. You are responsible for your own actions. As I said, you can be asked to leave for the day for extreme behavior. Whether you do or not is up to you, but you can't be fired, and again, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS.

Working age is 16 and older, however government and state laws still apply.

This BUSINESS SYSTEM allows you to work and make decent money, without all of the bullshit that comes with a job as we know it. You are able to receive your pay by choosing a PAY-OUT OPTION, however, if you wait until Friday, you receive BONUS POINTS (which is extra money for being patient). This helps with the payroll system.

Everything is done with the special time clock system.

The pay ranges are from $15 to $20 an hour. No less than $15. PEOPLE NEED TO LIVE. This bullshit where everybody is paying everyone $10 or $12 an hour to do all of these tasks is ridiculous.

And I know what some are going to say. "Companies have to pay that in order to keep themselves afloat."

Yeah, of course they do. But what about when the company is profiting in the millions and billions? There is no excuse. It's just GREED, plain and simple.

And I said, you get paid by the TYPE of job you choose.

This Work Center, picture a big building like a Walmart or Target store. There are several different work areas within this center. They have automotive, packaging boxes, shipping and receiving, customer service by phones and Internet, sales by phone and Internet, processing all sorts of products, assembling products, processing clothes, price ticketing, taking care of garbage and cleanup, ensuring certain things are being done properly, etc. There are so many possibilities!

An example of how pay-out would be:

If you're processing clothes or putting things into boxes, you will make $15 an hour.

If you're working on cars, assembling products, you will make $16 or $17 an hour.

Let's say I have a plumbing department. We can have an instructor TRAIN people to do plumbing skills, so they can do work. The instructors would make $20 an hour, and trainees $15 or $16 an hour. Once the trainees have learned enough and passed some kind of certification, they can they do plumbing work for $20 an hour.

Plumbing work can involve assembing plumbing products for companies, or heading out to a person's house to fix a plumbing issue.

I don't care if I see profit from this or not. I am okay with it being non-profit. I just want to HELP people. People need good paying jobs, without the bullshit of the current workforce system.

No more nonsense, no more "You're not working fast enough", "You have to sell this many or else", "You're always late", "You're late one more time and you're out of here" "You can't work these hours because you have a kid?" "But we already have someone doing that."

All of the bullshit that comes with today's jobs, and the bullshit pay will be a thing of the past, with this Work Center, which I feel we REALLY REALLY need. The jobs are horrible, and the pay is equally horrible.

This will be one of my gifts to humanity.

We need something like this. I've been hurting badly, I have a friend who is hurting badly, and I'm sure there are MANY that are hurting badly.

Please, weigh in. Let me know what you think. We really do need something like this.

If you like this idea, and encourage me to go through with it, if you could tell me the next step I should do, I would greatly appreciate it.

My friend thinks I should contact the government and see if they can help me out a little bit (such as taxes if it's a non-profit organization, etc.).

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I appreciate your feedback and support.

There is something like this. TaskRabbit connects you to safe and reliable help in your neighborhood. It's not at quite the scale you're describing, but it will be, or another one just like it will be.

This is kind of like your idea, except people don't have to work from a set location, and employers don't have to pay benefits, and the workers actually do work instead of bsing for 8 hours because there's a rating system. TaskRabbit doesn't need a big building where employee drones show up to work either.

Next Steps (because you asked for them)

1) Drop the entitled attitude. Even billion dollar companies don't owe you shit. No greedy company = $0/hr which is less than $12/hr. This idea stands 0 chance of success without you benefiting those greedy companies in some way (which I'm not sure this does).

2) Companies are ideas. Therefore they cannot be greedy. People are greedy, but that doesn't make them bad and they still don't owe you shit.

3) Encourage yourself, do your own research, and decide if this is a good idea on your own. Figure out your own next steps. Is the forum your mommy? (answer is no, because the forum, like a company, is an idea, not a conscious entity).

None of this is to discourage you. I hope you succeed. This is an idea until it's something more.

How does this help the companies?
Since they would be sourcing some, if not most, of the work they need done, and with so many people needing work, in theory this would help them greatly. They would be able to produce more products and workload in a shorter period of time.

Please baring in mind I haven't worked out all of the details of this idea, but it is defintely something I feel needs to be done. That is why I welcome everybody's thoughts and opinions on this matter.

It's not that I have an entitlement attitude. That is really not the case, even if you can see that through my post. This Work Center idea is for people who are desperate, can't find work, and are just not making enough money in their jobs to make ends meet. Baring in mind, you get paid according to your skillset. Plumbers and assemblers would make more than lets say someone who is stuffing clothing into a box. However, there would be on-site training so that you can do those extra-involved jobs.

I can see how this idea would appear to be "drone-like" as you have mentioned, but that is not the intent. My intent is to help people. Plain and simple.

But I am taking into account everything you have said in your post.

I do appreciate your feedback. Thank you for your time.

My intent is not to get you to think about the logistics of your idea. It's to get you to focus on what's actually important.

Your customer is the company, the workers are your product. Your thought process is exactly backwards. If your marketing came across like your post does, your customers would recoil and run a million miles away.

I was actually intrigued by your idea until I got to the second half of your post.

This Work Center idea is for people who are desperate, can't find work, and are just not making enough money in their jobs to make ends meet.

I’m not seeing the problem you’re seeing.

There’s tons of jobs out there that people are just not qualified for. Plain and simple.

What you’re describing is exactly what unions do.

After further reading, there’s so much of your utopian wetdream that I could pick apart, but I’d be wasting my time.

One point that slapped me right in the face was that you can’t be fired? Really?

Why can’t I be fired for being habitually lazy? Habitually late? Habitually useless? A liability?

I deserve to be paid for just showing up?

Your problem isn’t employers. It’s you. You worked at the same job for a decade making hardly any more than minimum wage. That’s not the employers fault. That’s your own laziness and arrogance.

This idea does nothing to help anyone. It perpetuates entitlement and laziness for employees, and companies wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

When you're desperate, there isn't anything you wouldn't consider doing if it will alleviate your pain.

That includes whatever you can think of.

Lying, stealing, cheating, etc.

It might even involve suicide.

Whatever it takes to ease your pain.

The "why me" when you're stuck in the muck can be debilitating, but the doers, the ones who let their negativity fuel their fire...

The ones who fight instead of give flight...

Those are the ones that usually make a meaningful difference.

Those are the folks that typically make an impact.

The key though is execution of the plan and persistence.

As everyone else has pointed out, the fact that you're, at least, thinking about helping others is a positive first step, but deep down, people are still just sophisticated monkeys with shoes.

Now, personally, I don't even give money to a homeless guy with his hand out. You know why?

There's no exchange of value, and to be frank, no one deserves anything.

Someone once told me: What you get out of life comes from what you take from others, what others choose to give you or what you make for yourself. People who take can become thieves. People who just accept what's given can become beggars.

What's left?

Minimum wage, as Dan Kennedy has asserted, is a starting wage.

It is the wage folks should strive to graduate from.

It's pay for ADDING VALUE to the employer.

It's pay for helping him/her grow their business.

Don't wanna grow their business? Grow your own, but remember, our economy is based on adding value; giving people what they want, fulfilling needs.

As noble as your thoughts are, you're still gonna have an uphill battle if the person you're trying to help doesn't appreciate or want it.

Even if they need it.

I dig the positive thoughts, but you can be most useful to the rest of the planet if you simply focusing on leveling yourself up, I think.

Hope that was useful.

Regards,

Los

As others have pointed out, my reaction as well was, "what could this provide that something like TaskRabbit can't? What is the incentive for companies to want to fund this?". A warehouse full of employees that you can hire on an as-needed basis sounds great, in theory. But for no less than $15?? Who owns a business that isn't big enough to have full-time employees, that could afford a rate like that as a minimum? You have a clear grasp on who would want to do the labor there- desperate people who are unemployed- but you need to come up with a more concrete vision of who the potential CUSTOMERS are that would need these services. Probably not big corporations. They have their own employees.

Anyway, I hope you keep working on the idea! Think more about what you can offer the ones paying the bills. It seems like you have a lot of passion about this idea, although some of that passion seems a little bit like anger at the ones who you'll need to market this toward. Just think more about what unique offerings you could provide for the companies!

When I'm desperate, I find a way out of my hole. Pain moves you to action. I've taken jobs in fast food, part time, hustling, lived with girlfriend's parents, joined the military, traded things, sold things, ate the shitty food, got the shitty car, lived in shitty places, screamed, cried, wondered "why?" But there's one thing I never did.. I never blamed somebody else for my situation. I was and am where I am by choice.

There's no such thing as "can't find work." There's "I'm too good for that" though.
There's no such thing as "can't make ends meet." There's "not willing to do what it takes." though.
There's no such thing as "greedy companies." There's an entitled victimized belief that "greedy companies" beat you down, though.

Phrases that aren't in my dictionary:

1) It's impossible
2) I can't
3) I quit
4) I deserve
5) I wish
6) How X should be..
7) Not my fault

OP wants to help people, that part is clear. The idea needs work. The mindset needs work. Beyond that, if he executes, who knows. Maybe he'll be the next TaskRabbit or Upwork. Like I said, impossible is NOT in my dictionary.

To OP, if you really think this solves a problem, and it's your life's mission, then just do it. Seek out my friends "What," "How," "Where," and "Who" to help you along the way.

My next steps would be to figure out how I can find out if anyone might use this, who specifically my target market is, what is the very next thing standing in my way from making this happen? What do I think I don't know that I need to learn to overcome that thing. Where do I go to take that next action? How much of an investment am I looking at to create an MVP? How can I come up with startup capital? If I get stuck, what else can I try, or how else can I work around this roadblock.

Google will be your best friend in this case.

It perpetuates entitlement and laziness for employees, and companies wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole.
maybe the US government would cater to it though?:happy::rofl::rofl::shit: Government policies

Honestly, I'm almost sorry I made this thread. I say "almost", because I did read some valuable points.

I consider myself a hard worker, and I don't believe in the whole entitlement thing that has been spouted about over the last few years.

I neither identify as a Democrat or a Republican, and could care less about politics. I am pro business and all for people succeeding. I agree with the whole fastlane philosophy of helping others and providing value.

@SinisterLex, you have made some good points, but is the bit about the forum being "my mother" really necessary? It comes off as rude.

@Thoelt53, Same here. While your second post is probably what I needed to hear, you didn't have to be so cold about it.

You guys have given me a lot to think about, and for those of you who knew where I was coming from with this idea, I appreciate your support. I am just trying to help people who have a hard time finding jobs, and may not be as wise and knowledgable as the rest of us are. Bare in mind that reading The Millionaire Fastlane and Unscripted were definitely life changers for me. Especially reading some key threads here on the forum after reading those books.

For those who were struggling and are now doing much better in life, I congratulate you, and wish you luck. But I know a lot of people who are not where they could be, and it's not because they are stupid, it's just that they don't have the answers and don't know better.

You have to admit that before reading The Millionaire Fastlane , your mindset was different.

There are a lot of people who have that old mindset, but are good people.

I agree that people need to learn and grow, and take control of their lives. Nobody owes anyone anything. People owe themselves.

This idea spawned from the fact (and you can fight me on it all you want), that the jobs today are just plain shit. They are. If you disagree with me, by all means, you are entitled to your opinions. Ask a lot of people, and I'm sure they'll agree with me.

As I said, I don't believe in the whole entitlement thing, but there are a good people in this world, and it's not just the workforce that sucks, the education system sucks as well. Imagine if people were required to read MJ's books in schools, or told that as part of their homework assignment they had to read several threads on this forum and write a report on what they learned. That alone would help kids with their direction.

I know that I screwed up in my 20's. I didn't do as much as I should've to advance myself. That's why I was at my job for about ten years. But I wasn't the person that I am now. And since I can't undo the past, all I can do is move forward.

I'm not looking to "hand" anything to people. I'm looking to help people, so that they can help themselves.

I'm not perfect, and I know that I have a lot to learn. This idea may need to be scrapped or changed into something a little different. But that's exactly what it was, an idea. And I needed input on it.

Now here's my point: I'm all for criticism, and constructive criticism. It is necessary to make adjustments, and learn from your mistakes. But you can give people criticism and feedback without being cold or rude about it.

maybe the US government would cater to it though?:happy::rofl::rofl::shit: Government policies

You want a job that you can show up whenever you want and leave whenever you want for $15/hr?

How could a business who needs help even get this to work? There’s training involved to get you up to speed. Do you get paid for that? What if i train you and you work 2 hours and never come back?

This just doesn’t work in your scenario because your idea is all one sided. No business wants the type of worker you are defining. We want a reliable person that doesn’t just leave when they feel like it. If i have 1000 orders to ship and you leave after 700, then what do I do?

I’m sure i can post a job for $15/hr, 40 hours a week and someone will jump at the chance. I don’t need people who work when they feel like it and don’t have any skills/knowledge related to my business.

Reading through, I'm not quite sure where accountability comes in here.

If someone can punch in, "claim" they did the work, but did so terribly. what happens? Let's say I need a plumber to come fix my toilet, I'm available at 3pm at home to have it fixed. Joe Plumber find the job, and comes, but in the process completely busted my pipes, got water everywhere and ruined my cabinets. who takes responsibility at this point?
