Hey friends,

Yesterday I just launched my new mobile app for Android named IDKWTD (The app can be downloaded from Google Play: IDKWTD).

unnamed.png

Since I am new in the mobile app industry I will love to hear your honest feedback regarding it.

The purpose of this app is to help people when they run out things to do in life. IDKWTD is an acronym for I Don't Know What To Do

Thank you everybody and I appreciate your support!

Okay so I did iOS development for a bit, so I have an idea on what goes into making an app. Not sure if Android development is in the Stone Age or simply you're a noob and your app looks TERRIBLE. COMIC SANS, REALLY? The Multi-colors? No Table/Tableview for the buttons? The White space? No Nav Buttons in the top left/right? 40mb download??

Okay. How long have you been learning code? Maybe as a starter project you can throw it on Github to begin building your portfolio/to look back on to see how much better you've got; absolutely fine. But to actually compete? No chance. Nooo chance. Everybody and anybody is building apps these days, the big dogs are the only ones that make money, who have massive applications, with massive backends and amounts of money to back them. Should you give up? No way; look at under recent Billionaires, a few ARE App guys (think Travis Kalanick, Evan Spiegel) however, to compete you have to put out real good stuff. Your quality of app has to be REALLY good, pooping out shitty apps was cool in 2009, not 2017.

Keep learning, keep improving.

Good luck

I know web programming for over 7 years. And since the web script I created to sell didn't sell that good i switched to mobile apps development. I understand that the app needs improvements. Thank you :)

Get a new color theme: Adobe Color CC

Ya this color scheme can be vastly improved. I would invest $200-400 and get a designer to redo the whole layout.

A good app should look clean and visually appealing...

My first impression is that it has something to do with being gay (rainbow) and children. I see I am way, way off.

Comic Sans should be no where near a website, much less an app, unless your target market is kids. The Yellow "Fun" is barely visible.

I'd also add a subtitle that makes it perfectly clear what the app does.
"Find the newest things to do, anything, anytime, anywhere."

I have just started programming mobile apps in java. And I don't think it would be a app that everyone would download, because there is no need to have an app like that. I am currently trying to create an application that connect people, that's the thing I believe works. Think about snapchat, tinder, instagram, clash royale, reddit, tumblr. In the moment, I think connecting is the key to sucess in the mobile development.

P.s: I would appreciate so much any advice from you about programming for andoid devices. Just java is enough ? What second language would you advice me to learn ?

Thank's for feedback. I don't consider myself and expert in mobile apps. My skills are in web development. It depends on what you want to do. There is a software called Xamarin where you write one time in one language the code and it converts for all OSs.

But, if you want only in Android, java will help you in more than 50% of the cases. If your apps will include databases you should also learn a little PHP and MySQL.

Good luck!

After reading all of your replies, I changed the look of the app:
View attachment 14377 View attachment 14378

I would suggest fixing the grammar. "Never run out things to do with your life" and "Amazing application that helps you with ideas to what to do, when you don't know" is just bad English and gives off a very amateur feel to the app. Good luck!!

Curious...Are these ideas hard-coded into the app or are you accessing an external service of yours that you'll be needing to update constantly with new ideas?

I'd create a way for people to share ideas. Then you can add the ones you like to the app. Your customers are now working for you. People love giving advice, and it gives them more interaction with the app. Maybe even add a social aspect where people can see who came up with the tip. Just some ideas off the top of my head. They may or may not be good, so use them at your own risk.

After reading all of your replies, I changed the look of the app:

The new look is much better. I'd brighten up the colours a little more though. They seem too muted against that background. Maybe also try a thin 1 pixel border to see how it looks? Vast improvement though. Keep going.

Well a friend told me the exact same thing you did. Now that you said also this I will take it serious and apply it as soon as possible :)

Do you think I should also allow people to post photos for their ideas like I did?

Thank you a lot!

Right now they are hard-coded, but I will change this.

Yea, you definitely want to leverage your users so your "things to do" archive grows and grows. Once users believe the app has crashed out on ideas, they will stop using it.

Overall, it looks much improved and this looks like something I would use.

You are right to do the app both for iOS and Android phones. And you have a really bright idea! Very cool .. People often need some piece of advice and sometimes they do not have a person near by to ask

I made the changes at the app IDKWTD as you all suggested and I am very thankful to all of you.

Please let me know what do you think about the new version (the app is available on the Google Play and is free).

Thank you for support :)
